Lol watching this reminds me of my dad's stories. My grandfather was a marriage negotiator back in the days, and my dad use to tag along. He said that back then, some villages were notorious for doing this. All groomsmen had to drink a line of cup, one for every villager, leading into the village before they can even meet the bride's family.
We still follow that tradition here in America during a wedding. Trust me, this right of passage, many young Hmong men’s train all their single life for.
I'm not worry about the welcoming drinking part, but if you have to sing a song in response to their greeting song then it would not look good on our part haha.

With nearly 12 million Miao people, the term unites various tribes into one ethnic community. Distorting “Miao” to mean “cat” is what truly contaminates its original significance.
11 million Miao(2021 census), and 9.58 million Tujia, a mixture of Miao and other peoples, they think of themselves as Miao, but the Miao think they're traitors and do not accept them as Miao.
