To be fair, claiming to care about animals and then showing exactly how little you actually care about animals is PETA's MO, so they were perfect.

    • @medes5597
      @medes5597 4 роки тому +2

@@nightmarefanatic1819 OK while that's true to a degree, one of the main services PETA provide is free euthanasia because its a genuinely useful service as most vets charge for it. That's why their euthanasia statistics are so high, not because they put healthy animals down. They've proved this several times.
So I'm not defending them perse, but those statistics are misleading and usually misrepresented by people. They are bad for many reasons (and their founder was insane), but those numbers are high for a legitimate reason.

I know. I'm ridiculously late. But your rant reminded me of my friend that I lost when I was 17 and she was 15. I was one of the last people to talk to her at school before she hung herself in the school bathroom. She was OBSESSED with Good Charlotte. This album came out shortly before she killed herself.
She listened to their music NONSTOP. I truly believe that her relief and happiness when I spoke to her that day was due to bands that she felt "got" her telling her that the best day she'd ever have was her final one. I beat myself up for YEARS asking myself why I missed the signs or telling myself I should have caught on. But now, at 33, I know I couldn't have known. And I also know that trash like that song pushed her in that direction.

I had a really funny experience with Riot Girl. When I was revisiting this album (And then crying myself to sleep) and I got to Riot Girl, I was honestly expecting a song about being in love with someone from the Riot grrrl movement. Ya know, Sleater-kinney, Bikini Kill, those bands. I was really thinking "Huh, what a completely unique choice for a pop punk song, but why did he spell it with a regular Girl instead of grrrl?" And then the song played and it was about a Psychopathic girlfriend who makes his social life a living hell. And then I threw the CD across my room for making me think this band had depth for a second. Great review BTW.

8:43 Yesterday, I had a Zoom class focused on celebrities, and my teacher played this song and told my classmates and I to analyse it (and by that, I mean its message, not the song itself).
Fortunately, since we all consisted of adults, we all unanimously agreed that the basis on which the song was built up was misinformed, narrow-minded and just plain stupid, with some of them citing other reasons celebrities can act messed up, and me citing Weird Al Yankovic as an example that, despite the song telling you otherwise, you can be a celebrity AND still not be a stuck-up, arrogant, vain, out-of-touch jerk.

I had this album as a kid, I had just gotten into Green Day and other bands of the pop punk ilk and at the time I though this album was awesome. I had forgotten all about it uptill I saw this video in my sub box and Now I see this album is auditory garbage. In the same breath, this kind of music somehow influenced me to get into Metal, Hardcore/Metalcore, Punk, and oddly enough Prog Rock/Metal. It's not all bad if here were kids like me who heard this album and thought "Hey, I like the general sound and style of this but I want something with deeper lyrics, actual musicianship and song writing ability, and heavier. It may have been forgetable Pop "Rock" bullshit, but if it's what helped push kids to dig deeper into the genre of Rock, Punk, and Metal, it can't be all bad. Having said that, THANK YOU, Luke, for tearing this mob the new one it deserves, because in Oz, you would never be able to do that without the mainstream media coming all over you like a ton of bricks.

I actually really like the concept of "The Day That I Die" I think it could lead to a very interesting song. Two problems though. 1). They're marketing this album towards preteens, so not a good song to have on this specific album. If the rest of the songs were more mature and were marketed towards older teenagers and adults, I could see it working. 2). Like he said, Good Charlotte literally had a song three tracks previously about holding on and not killing yourself. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS. Other than that, if this song was done by a better pop-punk band, say Green Day or blink-182, I think it could've been pretty good.

Good Charlotte were a punk rock Backstreet Boys. Look at their first album cover. They are a boy band. I live in MD and NOBODY knew of these guys before local radio station WHFS started to play their demo and they were barely around for a year at that point. They didn't play many shows prior to this. Their big exposure was througn the HFStival. They didn't have fans before that. A major label instantly signed them up within a year of them being a band. Their first album looks like they were a bunch of preppy kids who stumbled into a Hot Topic one day. Their second album they though we need a tougher image. Get some mohawks, studded leather jackets, tattoos. Whine about the rich and the famous yet fast forward to now and the Madden Brothers are rich elitists who married Lionel Ritchie's socialite daughter and Cameron Diaz.

mmm So thats what hipster sound like? I really enjoy Vampire Weekend, i find them very unique myself, Modern Vampires of the City is one of my favorite records of this decade. So you like more rough sounding voices? I think its a little weird that you prefer good charlotte guy whiny, fake, weak souding voice to VW but, tastes i guess.

+Mateo Alvarez I have no idea why you would prefer something like them to someone like Blink or Sum(I was talking more about pop punk in general as opposed to just this band). I mean if you like em fine, but I just find bands like Sum 41 make more badass music while still managing to be very relatable. I guess I was just born ten years late or something.

I feel that the song The River was their high point. Really it's one of the few Good Charlotte songs I listen to.

+FlufferNutters 100 percent agree. I actually really like that one too, but they still had to go and get M. Shadows and Synyster Gates to make it as good as it is.

I think Young & the Hopeless is one of the best pop punk albums ever made, still I fucking loved your video hahaha it was great. Keep it up man, best channel about rock music I've seen!

Many years ago, when the song "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" was big, I visited my Dad at the plant where he worked (it was for a school assignment). Greenpeace climbed onto the cooling tower, so until security took care of them, we were locked in. I still remember sitting in Dad's office, and we were watching that music video on his laptop. He thought the song was funny, and it always makes me think of that day. I miss you, Dad. R.I.P. :'(

Josh Freese is the Jeff Porcaro of the '00s. Don't know who that is? Hardly a single album came out of LA from like '77 to '90 without Porcaro (or his Toto bandmates) somewhere on it. And I agree Josh Freese is the best thing about this album.

My best friends little sister use to crank this album. I remember hearing it when we'd be trying to play GTA. I told her about the psyco chick and that the album seemed like a money grab. I had been playing guitar for a couple years when this album came out. I literally learned it by ear before I even knew what learning by ear was. You pretty much called it as it is man. Mad respect!

I got this album for Christmas and sang every song with as much teenage angst that I had. I feel shame I loved it now. Knowing the background and how big they sold out really taints the memories I have of it. And now listening to it again after not hearing it for a number of years, boy it blows massive chunks. Take a sub from me sir. You are awesome and have amazing videos
