The singing is astonishing; taking a relatively "undemanding" ragam and revealing its brilliance. Make no mistake, TMK has no peers and, as someone who has listened to his recordings for a few decades, I have witnessed his progression/evolution into genius. I could go on about why, but not here. And as someone who has always held (and still does) MDR, Semmangudi, Chembai, Musiri with their perfection as the benchmarks, but I am beginning to wonder if they were perfect only because they stayed in their comfort zone? What is thrilling about TMK is his willingness to push the boundary of what is possible, and hence courageous in taking on the risks which no other singer has dared (as far as I can tell). First Edition recordings deserve a big applause for their recordings. This music has thrived for centuries, not because of state subsidies or royal sponsorships but due to its richness, its inherent confidence which has ensured its evolution into one of the most powerful musical forms. However, Carnatic music pyramid, which is thriving not just in India but the world over, has an expansive base of mediocrity. Take note aspiring young vocalists - don't worry about memorising 400, or even 20 ragams, just do a few memorable ones.
An interesting analysis. However, those artists, especially MDR, created that comfort zone for themselves by pushing the boundary of what existed then. It is just that we have been fortunate to witness TMKs evolution (sometimes in 1080p!). I would give anything to be able to witness this similar evolution of Ramanathan or Chembai (the difference in his music from the 78 rpm records to the utter serenity in his later years).
Could not have said this better. The first kalpana swaram took me straight out of this realm. Just 7 swaras was all it took. M,P,, PM, G,, MG,,,. He defined neelambari in that.

Neelambari is moving the heart. This is the tempo in which it is best to hear. A lullaby. In ddition to violin the mridangam lifts the concert. Great TMK Sir.
I love how the mrudangam artiste is quiet for a good portion and is all along so sensitive to the rAgam and the composition, as if putting the Goddess to sleep! Vidvan Arun Prakash is a great (accompanying) artiste - sometimes that accompanying means to stay quiet 😊
Brilliant! What I really appreciate about TMK is that he has evolved his own style of singing. Slow, gentle music with a very soft percussion and violin on the side. And Neelamabari is probably the best platform to showcase his skill!
Exceptional rendition. I have been listening to this song from at least 10+ singers, last 40 years, living in US. For this song, the speed is perfect. Subbulakshmi has done absolutely great job supporting Krishna.
The rendering of this kirtana snd the wonderful slow pace remind us of another late stalwart Shri Ramanathan. Touching the innermost nerves and so soothing. God bless the Singer and accompanying artists.
Great! I am gradually inclined to love his rendering of every note! I could admire him as one of the soulful voices of the human era! His way of enjoying each and every musical moves as a devotee of the almighty is imitable. 💐💐💐💐💐💐🙏🙏
The Neelambari rendered by Sri T.M.Krishna was captivating, and reminded me of the rendition done by the great music gaint Sri M.D.Ramanathan. A happy blend of erudition and deep involvement. He deserves to be congratulated for it.
This beautiful piece is so lilting and SWEET that we are driven to the beautiful vision of the the most beautiful DIVINE MOTHER before our meditative pair of eyes. You see HER smiling and beatific sweet face bestowing Her Kataksha. Very soulfully rendered by this excellent singer
The vilamba kalam is unbelievable, most others, even if capable, are unlikely to be able to settle this well at the pace Krishna has chosen. And as always, the mridagam is just what you need for a composition of this speed. No wonder Krishna uses so few others.

A raga that is soothing, like a lullaby that cradles one’s senses, is Neelambari. This is a raga that is associated with relaxation, peace, and slumber. A janya of Shankarabharanam, Neelambari has gamakas that flow seamlessly from one note to another, blending subtle notes, like a shading on a canvas, and finally it all merges into one phrase that make so much sense.
Again wow.. sharing with friends.. all the best for this very important work... This may sound silly but it would be great if you guys facilitate short term workshops. I know noone can master anything in a day or two , but just as a way to familiarise those of us who have very little knowledge of this and also for those of us who have an interest in performance

These were workshops on Carnatic music that FEA produced, curated and video recorded. They are all very informative and entertaining at the same time. Do check them out.
Indeed, Hindustani Nilambari and Carnatic Neelambari are entirely different ragas. The former belongs to the Kafi thaat and the latter is a janya of the 29ᵗʰ melakarta Dheerashankarabharanam (the scale of which corresponds to Bilawal thaat, although as ragas these two are also very different).
Nanda Kumar Shiva soon. There are a few other videos by other artistes that have been long overdue that are currently being given priority. As the saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait”.
This is a different composition by non other than Sri Muthuswamy Dikshitar, as can be seen from the rich aalapana style composition as well as the guruguha mudra in the last line of the charanam.
