I watched this trial and thought something important was missed because of the poor imagining. Based on timing I don't believe Reeves had time to reach into his pants and withdraw the gun, as he said. I think he possibly already had the gun out, in his lap. I don't know if this would have changed the outcome of the trial. My hunch is consistent with comments by others who recounted hostile encounters with Reeves, one declaring he was intent on shooting someone.
The younger man showed he had a HOT temper, NO need to get in a 81 yr old face over a cell phone. These days you never know what these younger people are willing to do. They have no respect
The older man showed he had a HOT temper, NO need to shoot a man over popcorn. These days you never know what these older people are willing to do. They have no respect
Disgraceful! old and being a retired police officer is a ticket to anything you want to do. Why does an old man have a gun. the day he forgets things and starts to shoot where ever he wants and who ever he wants and when that day comes and it will, I pray none of the juries family is there because that decision to set him free may come back to haunt them.
Wow! This is absolutely crazy! Can’t believe he got off! I am so very grateful I live in a country where I can go anywhere and the chances are extremely slim to none that I’ll get shot. Even if I ever had reason to throw popcorn at someone or a mobile phone for that matter! 🤷🏻♀️ Not that I’d do that but here you can have an argument, stand up for yourself or say what might need to be said and you’re not going to get shot! No one is going to movie theatres or shopping malls or getting fuel or going anywhere with a gun on them, my nerves wouldn’t cope 🫣
Why do you make the family of the guy killed be only affected by the gunman? Their husband/father could have also stepped down. Would love to have known why the father didn’t say “sorry let me put my phone away” or just step out into the lobby. Better yet have left his phone in the car then he wouldn’t be died. And as you pointed out, his daughter would have a father.
yeah, he could have done differently to de-escalate but your statement sounds like victim shaming. Like it is his fault he got shot rather than the person who shot him. Also, being on the phone during previews is not as big of a deal as during the movie. I dont think it is a big deal for people to not back down from that. 'yeah, i'll be done with my phone in a sec and wont be out during the movie)
This retired policeman shows NO remorse or regret over the murder. A child lost her dad. The wife is traumatized for life. I think this guy is a sociopath. The victim was also behaving badly, but his crime was throwing popcorn. Men do get testy when other macho guys throw their weight around, and this defendant goaded him. He knew that he could act with impunity. Such a cold blooded crime supports the general fear and mistrust of the police.
The officer may have thought he may get shot during the victim was throwing the popcorns. They are trained people. They leather and faced too many risks.
Disappointing but not surprising. They were never going to find him guilty. Many of them probably identified with him as a grandfatherly type, someone who reminded them of their own grandpa. And, they likely felt, their grandfather would never hurt anyone maliciously. Certainly never kill anyone like this old man was accused of. Also, the very fact that he's old sometimes deters juries from putting someone behind bars for the rest of their lives. Most people don't want to put elderly people behind bars or they think there's no point because they're so old they probably only have a few years left. He probably won't do it again after all this, right? So, what's the point? That kind of thing. It's too bad, but I never expected him to be convicted. He was always going to get to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding. His victim will never get to do that for his daughter, though.
Moral of the story. When you go to a movie, watch the movie. If you want to use your cellphone, use it outside, switch it off then return to your seat and do what you came for - not to disturb others but to watch a movie.
Even if the victim was swinging to punch this guy. Or a cell phone being thrown you still can’t shoot someone. Period. Quit talking about that phone in closing arguments it makes no difference or it shouldn’t. Being afraid because you are old with a bad back knees and whatever else still doesn’t justify MURDER. Chad wouldn’t do what this MURDER wanted. That’s why. If he was so scared why didn’t he and wife leave. That’s what I would do if I was afraid in a movie theater. I’m sorry I usually agree with juries. They got it wrong on this one. Just listen to what he said in the back of the police cruiser. And what his wife said about shooting a gun in a movie theater
He should have been guilty !!! He could have gotten up and moved. He should NOT have had a gun in the show. I guess it helps to be a cop at one time. The jury let a guilty man free. He will pay in heaven when he dies. Even his wife knew he as wrong. Prayers for the victims family. My heart goes out to them. 😢❤
Had he been a YOUNG man, that jury would have found him GUILTY!! He was obviously an arrogant, aggressive, large (at 6’2”), hot tempered, old man who showed NO remorse and it’s a travesty that he got away with murder because of his age!!😡 That said, at 79, he’ll have to answer to our maker soon, and our GOD is a JUST God who KNOWS what his TRUE intentions were, and with no repentance, there’s a special place in H*LL reserved for this callous, hot-headed old man!!
Was the popcorn loaded with butter & salt? Statistics has shown that is unhealthy even deadly. This was justified self defense. Had salad been tossed, murder.

I am so very grateful I live in a country where I can go anywhere and the chances are extremely slim to none that I’ll get shot. Even if I ever had reason to throw popcorn at someone or a mobile phone for that matter! 🤷🏻♀️
Not that I’d do that but here you can have an argument, stand up for yourself or say what might need to be said and you’re not going to get shot! No one is going to movie theatres or shopping malls or getting fuel or going anywhere with a gun on them, my nerves wouldn’t cope 🫣
The jurors should be charged with being idiots.
Why do you make the family of the guy killed be only affected by the gunman? Their husband/father could have also stepped down. Would love to have known why the father didn’t say “sorry let me put my phone away” or just step out into the lobby. Better yet have left his phone in the car then he wouldn’t be died. And as you pointed out, his daughter would have a father.
id rather a phone in the theatre that a gun numb nuts
yeah, he could have done differently to de-escalate but your statement sounds like victim shaming. Like it is his fault he got shot rather than the person who shot him. Also, being on the phone during previews is not as big of a deal as during the movie. I dont think it is a big deal for people to not back down from that. 'yeah, i'll be done with my phone in a sec and wont be out during the movie)
The victim didn't put away his phone because he was standing his ground!
Yep. Florida is sick.
How can you take a gun to the movie ?
The old man react out of proportion ...
Nasty old crow got away with murder
I watched this trial....the retired police captain got away with murder....so sad....
So… do we start carrying glocks in movie theaters? Asking for a friend 🤔
So wrong!! Chad will never be able to walk his daughter down the aisle!!!
The trial was excellent. Horrendously sad, and imo totally avoidable. Both parties over reacted to each other and it escalated.
I don't think it's fair to 'both sides' this case. One guy threw a bag of popcorn. The other murdered a man.
Fortunately popcorn was never thrown at him during his career. He would have retired as a babbling idiot. Either a murderer or a dolt.
Damn you’re not very bright. “Both parties?” Someone shot and killed someone you moron.
Till this day i will never understand that verdict he really got away with murder
That SYG law is so flawed. Just because something scares you, that shouldn't give you the right to shoot someone unarmed....but I guess it does.
That man got away with murder. 😢
😢unbelievable
Retired cop ignored the sign, ‘no guns’ he took the law into his own hands & murdered a man. Justice was not served
Moral of the story. When you go to a movie, watch the movie. If you want to use your cellphone, use it outside, switch it off then return to your seat and do what you came for - not to disturb others but to watch a movie.
How about keep your hands to yourself and not assault people, young or older!
Then don’t cry victim when it don’t work in your favor!
People shouldn’t be allowed to take guns into public places like this or it should be visible
This old man ufit for living in society I would say send him to prison without parole
And what his wife said about shooting a gun in a movie theater
my grandfolks are terrified of corn beef popping effect i'll hate4sumbody messn w/ my nana
Chad Olsen reached over to the defendant, then grabbed and tossed his popcorn on the ground. That is bold!
Had salad been tossed, murder.
you don’t get to murder someone for being rude
100% guilty and should not own a gun
