As an 8/9 year old kid in WB, I firsrt heard a few of these songs of great Nileshwar babu in the year 1954/55. I still vividly remember the songs..." oi bibnang godai, agwi mwnbari bibari" & "honwi sanjaha sanna swrangbwgou". One Mr.Kamini Brahma of Basugaon area near Kokrajhar, used to come to our village in Jalpaiguri district ( now Alipurduar ) from time to time. We, kids & youngsters of the entire village, used to fondly call him "Amai". Once he brought one black disc with a picture of a dog in front of a microphone. Soon, with the efforts of village leaders including my father, one old gramophone was brought from afar ( probably on loan from a wealthy zeminder who had one motor car and two elephants in addition to the gramophone! ). Finally, when the record started rotating and a strange but sweet human voice started singing songs, that too in our bodo language, we children & grown ups alike, burst in joy.....openly & loudly declaring that finger sized human beings were sinnging inside the box type contraption ! OMG......I am soooo nostalgic.....I'm meandering too much & I must stop here. Thanks for your patience.
