Hi Laura thank you for sharing your cake making😁 really enjoyed it, l never made a Christmas cake before, but you made it look so easy, think l might give it go!!
Hi there Laura! You made a fruitcake! I tried to make one for my first husband. A chocolate cherry fruitcake. I put it in the oven and laid on the sofa with him for a short nap 💤. Didn’t hear the buzzer. It was a rock when I woke. Only good for the birds. Your cake looks beautiful and yummy! A masterpiece! I’m loving the cooler weather too. Hugs to you and Roo. Take care Cindy 🙋🏻♀️🥰
I made a huuuuge fruitcake Cindy! I'll be eating it for months after Christmas, I am sure of it! Omg you're not serious 😲 you are so lucky it didn't set the kitchen on fire!!! I am still on the hunt for the cornmeal to make the cornbread, I think it might be called polenta here! Hope you're having a wonderful Friday! 🤗💖
@@thetinygarden_ Hey again Laura! I believe that what we call cornmeal, you call polenta. Probably look for a British cornbread recipe in a search. Cornbread is yummy! I learn from you, you learn for me. That’s what life is all about…learning. It certainly makes life more interesting!
I have learnt so much too Cindy, it actually fascinates me how different the names are for things and all the recipes! Can't wait to start trying to make some of these dishes!! I think so too on the polenta, but we also have something called semolina which looks so similar, it's going to be a fun video to make 🙈🥰
So pleased you enjoyed the video! Love seeing it when you pop up in the comments! Have a lovely evening and enjoy making the cake! Apparently it is good luck if everyone in the house give the mixture a stir before it goes in the tin! Good luck! 🤗🧁
@@thetinygarden_ thank u sweet I was just about to go to sleep last night when u put ur vidio on Soon woke up lol Yes tjats true . Thats what i was brought up to do . Dont think we had much luck lol .but not to bad .
Autumn has to be my favourite time of year, chill in the air and the smell of the earth, leaves just the whole atmosphere really dose it for me and it looks so beautiful in the lane's/woodland and my Bramble that's my Springer by my side ❤ dosent get better then that 😊

Wow that's made my day to know that I am doing how it would have been taught at school!! I love that! 🥰 I was never taught how to make a Christmas Cake I just picked it up over the years. I did have cooking classes at school though, once I made scones and I accidently picked up the salt instead of the sugar they turned out terrible 🤣🤣 I never knew there were different colours for greaseproof papers 👀
@@thetinygarden_ not different gresspropf Just ordenary brown paper I allso learnd jow to bake at school We madr our first christmas cake at school in our first year of secondry school
It's always interesting to see the slight differences in the way other people make their Christmas cake. With the one my mum's family makes, soaking the fruit in alcohol is a minimum of 24hrs if you're rushed, but preferably 3 days minimum, but we often soak (topping up as we go) the fruit for a week or few before we make the cake. I can assure that the fruit still tastes boozy in the cake 😆
Hi Laura wow I bet your house smells amazing. Fun fact we used to watch a show about Life after People so what happens to the world if no humans were here. One of the things that survived were cockroaches 🪳 the other was Christmas cake 😂😂 because of all the booze and sugar. But lovely to share thank you darlin 🥰. Have a superb week, Ali ☔️🌦️🇨🇦
Great video! Really enjoyed it! I only made a Christmas cake once years ago, from a recipe a friend gave me. When the recipe said mix, I put the whole lot in my kitchen robot and whizzed the whole lot, nuts and fruits included!!! My cake ended up less than half the size of the one my friend made from the same recipe. She couldn’t understand why mine was so flat until we tried it and she realised there was no fruits or nuts in it. They were there, just all crushed in!!! 😂🤣🤭 I never made one since! You might have convinced me that I should try again and mix it by hand this time! Your recipe looks very good! 😄👍💕🌸
Nanou!! 🤣🤣 you have gave me the giggles on my walk into university this morning, milling the fruitcake ingredients 🙈😆 I bet you and your friend had such a laugh when you tucked in to try the cake!! Give it a another go!! It is also good luck here in Ireland to get everyone in the house to give it a stir! 💪🥄 I have the link in the description to the recipe! So pleased you enjoyed the video 🌸🥰🥮
@@thetinygarden_ Oh yes! my friend is still laughing to this day about my cake 🤣🤣😂🤣😂!!! I thought you would find it funny! As you might have guessed, we don’t do a Christmas cake in France, we have a Christmas log which is generally made with chocolate or chestnut purée in a genoise sponge that is rolled, or many other flavours nowadays. This log is very similar to a very posh Swiss roll decorated with a Christmassy forest scene made out of meringue or marzipan! It is very pretty. It can also be filled with ice cream as a frozen pudding, which often, people find easier to finish a heavy meal with. My mum often buys one frozen at Christmas so she can just concentrate her efforts at preparing the meal with many courses which is always on Christmas Eve for us! I might surprise Grinch with a Christmas cake this year, I will definitely follow your recipe. Hopefully I will get it right this time!!! 😄👍💕🌸
OK I am making this! How fun. Now to hunt down the ingredients……. I would love to do a walking challenge with you. I need motivation to get back out moving.
Yes Robin 🙌 we can send each other photos at the end to see what they look like all decorated!! I hope your able to get all the ingredients, I have the recipe linked in the description, I said 300g of fruit I meant 800g! Excellent!! We will get our walking shoes on then!! 🚶♀️🚶♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️ I hope you have a fab day and enjoy your hunt for ingredients! 🥮🤗
Amazing 👏 I used to use brandy but last year I used amaretto and OMG game changer esp if you like amaretto (which I do). The noise your girl makes my Ruben makes the same noise.
I LOVE amaretto Tracey, with a few ice cubes and a dash of coke 🤭I bet that cake was SO nice, I feel like I need to do a new one now just to try it with the amaretto (I am seriously thinking about it!!) Roo-Boo and Ruben sounds like a match made in heaven! 🐾🥰
@thetinygarden_ not sure it you have home bargains but that's where i get it and it's only £5.99 Honestly iv used brandy for years and il be using amaretto this year lol 😆 Cake baked lush 😋 well done 👏
@traceysallotment2506 omg! I went to university in Birmingham and my local shop was a home bargins I had never seen one before, not sure they are a thing down south. I was obsessed with going in there haha😅! I just did a quick Google seems you can only get the fancy one for 30€ here 😅😂 nevermind still going to be worth it!! 🥃🥮
Hi laura christmas cake looks great exactly how i make mine dosnt it smell amazing trouble is we eat christmas cake for weeks after christmas not that im compaining😂😂
Hey Corrine!! That made me smile so much that we make it the same!! I know it stays around for a little while after Xmas, I saw someone last year serve it as part of a cheese/charcuterie board so I am going to give that a try with any of the left overs, I just need to figure out if it's to be eaten on its own or with a slice cheese on top 😆🤔
