Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Violin Concerto in D major, Op 35
1 Allegro moderato
2 Canzonetta. Andante
3 Finale. Allegro vivacissimo
Julia Fischer, violin
Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France
Vasily Petrenko, conductor
Live recording
I have an anecdote with this concerto. I was walking home after a long hard day at work, feeling tired and frustrated about my own life. When I was almost at the door of the building I heard the first bars of the Allegreto Moderato (Which I have always loved) and that´s not very common at the place where I live, a middle class neighborhood of a crowded city in South America. I started walking towards the source of the sound and I noticed that it came from a catholic church that´s just half a block from my building, I also noticed that there were a couple trucks parked in the street, branded with the philarmonic orchestra of my city. When I got into the church (where the orchestra was obviously playing the concerto) the beauty of this music, hit me so hard that tears started to run down my face, I felt my heart full of love, strenght and a lot of other things for which I don´t even have a name, I felt like Tchaikovsky music was hugging me an telling me that it´s all right, that better times were coming, after that I saw my wife and kids that were sitting in one of the last rows enjoying the concert, and then, it was perfect. It was a series of free concerts that the city hall was offering to promote classical music in low an middle class neighborhoods and for some reason I (a semi-professional musician and art lover) didn´t know. I like to think that it was a surprise from life to me, the muses of art telling me that they hadn´t forgotten me and that no matter what happens, there´s many reasons to carry on.
Such a hopeful and touching story. Sadly I don't know any neibourhood used to classical music erupt from windows these days regardless of its economic status. It's really encouraging to hear of such initiative and you're very blessed to have it next to you :)
Che dire, certo questi sono i miracoli della musica.
Music such as this, great music, is so wonderful, a true universal gift to the world.
Dear Dave Sosa, you wrote: " I felt like Tchaikovsky music was hugging me an telling me that it´s all right, that better times were coming". Be sure that these better times will come after Covid-19's defeat. In the meantime let us keep hoping and ... listening to Tchaïkovsky.

6:10 i die every time, this is so wounderfull, how can someone not love classicalmusic after this
I imagine the conductor's emotion in that part. Feeling all this music penetrate the soul ...
touche
It gives me the chills but in a good way... a really _really_ good way.
Absolutely amazing.
In my mind, this concerto is the story of a person personified by this main melody. As a newborn, it's at first gentle and adorable (1:12), then it grows and gains strength, self-confidence, and develops ambitions (1:50). Then the person lives the happiest times of its life (6:11), with some dramatic mood replacing progressively the initial innoncence, as the person realizes that these times won't last forever.
But then time and life happens. At 12:21, the person is on its deathbed, and can only be nostalgic of its life.
I imagine the 2nd movement as the bereavement of the closed ones, as they mourn the person (and the main melody) that died.
For 70 years I have loved classical music. This performance brings me chills and made me cry with joy...
same! I was in tears when I heard this for the first time yesterday (I'm 27)
This is one of my favorite pieces too... such a beautiful memory!
Best wishes from Scotland
God bless you sir
Best wishes to all from a mining city in northern Chile
the most relaxed conductor in the world. Even when it is intense he is like: "Don't stress me guys, its just Tchaikovsky op 35"
I'd like to see him conducting Tchaikovsky piano #1 lol
he’s actually dancing at 30:31 lol
@@queenofnevers6990 Yes, when Ms. Fischer is playing!
exact opposit of Pieter Jan Leusink 😂 His conducting of Dies Irae in Amsterdaam 2022 was incredible !!
I will never forget the first time I heard this concerto - over sixty years ago - and I said " I could listen to this every day for the rest of my life." Well, I haven't listened to it quite that often, but I still love it.
I like it tooʻ
12:23 when the flute comes in with the reoccurring theme during Julia's trill and then she proceeds to take over the same melody is perfection. Just wow.
This is one of my favourite parts in the concerto as well.
Yah i love the recapitulation sooooooooooooo much too
Absolutely amazing.
That part is the reason I started playing flute
@@strawbebby7092 wow that's amazing
watching this while waiting for Brett's Tchaikovsky drop 😊
Same here😁
@@JiwonAstrid should do a parody of the My Little Princess tchaikovsky performance, but it's actually good lol..
I listen to every performance of this piece just to... prepare
He just did 😁
Mari Seville and where you disappointed how he did it ? I did 😆 it was a joke how they did it I thought they would do it waaaaay more professional, to bad
My life = Exploring UA-cam for the best version of Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and coming back to Julia Fischer. always back to her
i've searched for a while so far and this one is the best !
This is the best interpretation of this piece that I’ve heard. She plays In such a way that people will understand the music. Her soul is precious. I believe that Julia was born to play violin.
So look at her too playing the piano, difficult to say what was she born to :-)
This ability and natural acuity to any instrument, and especially the violin cannot be taught or learned. You either have it. My mother was a gifted violinist and she lived this rendition. She told me that people like her with that ability are a once in a generation talent if not longer.
Very few that play the violin come even remotely close to this amazing talent
I think Galneryus had a good interpretation, skews toward neoclassical
What? WHAT?? Better than Hilary Hahn's interpretation?? No Way!
[I am joking, of course, both are top notch interpretations, which to prefer is a matter of tastes]
6:12-6:48
One of most emotive and intense moments of classical music
Exactly. I could listen to that time and time again and it still brings tears to my eyes…

1:12 one of most beautiful melodies i have ever heard
Main theme of this huge concerto.. so impressive and romantic melody!
yeah same

It's so beautiful that John williams stole it and used it for Han and leia's theme.
@@joecamel2750 nah John Williams is quite different - and not as beautiful as Tchaikovisky's!
Unquestionably, Ms. Fischer is the best contemporary performer of the Tchaikovsky VC. Brava!
This is something 6:12! Tchaikovsky...he is one of the kind! Absolutely amazing! Julia, BRAVO!!!
I had no big interest in classical music until I watched French movie "Le Concert" and I cried listening to this music, not from the movie but from this music. I fell in love with Tchaikovsky pieces instantly
Le concert film is a masterpiece, like opera 35❤
Same experience for me!! I loved classical growing up but heard this concerto for the first time when I watched that move in theatre. Quite transformative.
Her bowing skill is very nice. I think this conceto is her master piece.
she plays every piece like its her master piece ❤
this is my first time seeing her. she is just amazing goddess
for me I observe how she carries out the bowing and her wrists whenever I can and mix it with the tone colour of Hilary Hahn's to improve my bowing skills and violin skills generally
That's true. I love her Vivaldi's Winter as well. The best Largo I heard.
I watched a movie called "Le Concert" at a local theatre in 2009 with a friend who also liked classical music. I had never heard this concerto before, and seeing it in a symphony albeit in a movie just changed my LIFE. I've since then seen this played live twice and am hoping for a third! I don't know how anyone can listen to this and not shed tears. I love Julia's smile at 13:00 and throughout.
Julia Fischer is one of the greatest violinists of the newest generation of top women performers that grace our concert halls, with their extraordinarily beautiful performances as well as their enchanting physical beauty. Her playing is exquisite: technically perfect, but much more important musically perfect. She is not just a virtuoso, but a wonderful musician as well, the virtuosity always subordinated to the expressive power of the music. That is as it should be. This is a wonderful performance, and it is gratifying to see that it has been viewed almost 1.7 million times. Makes one think of the magic of technology that makes this possible. Joachim, Jeno Hubay, Huberman, Fritz Kreisler, some of the legendary performers of the past unfortunately never had this opportunity. For without recordings a performance is merely a fleeting moment of beauty that disappears as soon as it is over.
Well said
Grande .
So sad !

@JuliaFischer United States, and thank you for such a beautiful performance I will cherish it forever!!!
I have listened to this interpretation by Julia fischer for a 1000 times and I never get bored of it
despite the fact that you like or don't like the interpretation, this is one of the few violinists who make me understand all that is written in the score..
Very well-put.
Agree completely! Somehow she seems to understand the music better than other violinists. Not saying that she's more technically adept (that's another discussion!), just that she's never, ever playing by rote - she hears every note.
And, HFS! What a performance!
I have watched this at least 8 times in the last 10 days
How can you come to see that, i wanna learn actually, how it's seen?
I've been watching and listening to this every day, I love it!
Her wonderful performance is impeccable and comfortable to the ear and to the mind and to the soul
LOVE IT!!!! CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH JULIA!!!!
me too
bro same
She looks very much like Hillary Hahn
no problem! Thanx.
Es ist sehr schön, den Augen und dem Gesicht, den Bewegungen zu folgen: jeden Schmerz, jede Freude sieht man. Der Ton ist der Hammer!
THE MOST ELECTRIFYING PERFORMANCE OF THIS CONCERT THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD
33:48 is without question THE BEST VERSION of how to end this violin concerto!..
the way Julia plays it, it almost sounds like a banjo at that section. hope that doesn't ruin it for anyone :)
Goodness, whenever I listen to this concert I rewind this part several times.
@@karolka770 its simply rhe best...
She does the best interpretation of the third movement. She attacks the string in a crisp and sharp fashion, perfect for this fast movement. I love how she just attacks the strings at 33:49
totally agree
This is 10 month old comment. Bue agreed
Julia is one of my favorite violinists. Her Tchaikovsky is form another world
13:00 When the melody makes the musician smile, you know it's a great melody
Tchaikovsky must smile every time Julia Fischer performs this glorious concerto. She's just a joy to watch and listen to, and her body language and facial expressions show the depth to which she feels the music. I have recordings of this concerto performed by seven top-rated musicians, but I have to say that hers is the one that actually stirs my soul. Thank you, God, for the gift of Julia Fischer.
I don't understand what you write, but it is wonderful!
Man!! One of the greatest compositions in human history.
Personally, this is the version that I believe Tchaikovsky - Violin in D major, Op 35 is perfectly played ( even maybe in the way that Tchaikovsky had wanted it to be) I don't know much about the violin, nor who is the best violinist among all those who have ever played this Op 35, but not just Julia Fischer, but also all members of this orchestra, I think they really did a perfect job together. It's truly grateful that I can appreciate this beautiful classical music every day.
I love this comment you have a very good ear.
It is indeed excellent. Itzhak Perlman and Sarah Chang also do iconic expressions
Magnificent skill...the whole talent needs to be commended. OUTSTANDING.

The most beautiful composition ever, very unboring and flowing just inspiring. Beautiful playing as well.
I have to say that Tchaikovsky is such a brilliant composer. I heard different interpretations of this piece, but each version is just nice!
How can people not clap after the first movement? I was shouting with joy in my kitchen, air conducting the orchestra with tears running down my face.
Completely and utterly amazing. Thank you.
Because you're not supposed to clap at the end of each movement.
Also Lingling taught us so.
I love how Tchaikovsky kept making it sound like the piece would end but then another phrase would just become right after a “perfect ending”. It has you at the edge of your seat!
Just love that too. This is my fav
She has a powerful commanding presence, so confident, so precise, leading the way. Breathtaking. Always in tune with the orchestra and conductor. And she's not overbearing or arrogant...never showing off...it's not about her. And it's clear to everyone this is not her first rodeo.😄
Listening to classical music is like stepping into a world where emotions are translated into musical notes. The skillful orchestration and precise arrangements create a rich tapestry of sound that speaks to the soul. 🎵❤
The two S of the violin, the Smile and the Suffering ... I just love Julia Fischer!
There are no words to describe how freaking beautiful this piece is, it always takes me in a full rollercoaster of feelings and emotions its absolutly amazing, incredible, its true beauty
Jesus Christ, such precision and power she put into every note...!! BRAVO!!!
One of the most beautiful rendition of the Violin Concerto by Tchaikovsky. Such a talented and beautiful musician.
My favourite piece of classical music ❤
Vélocité + technicité + virtuosité ..Tout y est ! Bravo !
The cadenza was stunning
Did you see the Expression on the face of the Violinist behind her? I understand the Feeling, it was just wow!
What a performance! She is very expressive and beautifully execute the emotionally Tchaikovsky creation to the perfection! I love it and will by her record.
Listen to Oistrakh or Milstein before you decide. Much more discipline and power, but appropriately lyrical without being sentimental. And tone to spare. This is is very nice but she's rushing and lacks the power of the old school.
One does when one needs to show others how much one knows when one is in a superiority battle with the rest of the Luddites!...lol
Settle pettle I wasn't gigging you I was gigging Carl M Varady...and you are correct only a fool would comment on a youtube clip....go to bed feeling well you have proved yourself superior..
She has speed, but is absolutely NOT rushing. In fact the tempo in the 2nd is slower than I'm used to hearing. If she occasionally leads the beat a tiny bit, it's by artistic intent, I'm quite sure . . .
Brent Hudson has Beethoven Fidelio
Playing this, LIVE, with that level of perfection?!... this is MASTERPIECE! Period.
It is just breathtakingly mind blowing and so stimulating for the intellect and emotional centre of your being.
thats right.
so right. it makes me feel so happy

She shows such a powerful performance! As a rehabilitation medicine doctor, I think her lumbar spine is very healthy. Amazing!
Radio France!Bravo!
DEEP INTO MY SOUL. THANKS JULIA
saludos de Guatemala! How nice you expressed the situation and your feelings, gracias! I just go random every morning after meditation, and here I am, still not knowing Julia Fischer, so very grateful! My day is filled with blessings, adios!
😍This is one of the most musical interpretation I've ever heard!! Excellent intonation, beautiful rich tone, lyrical phrasing! She brings out the melody while accompanying herself in the background. Her rubato is rhythmically cohesive. Her expression is exquisite. I love the way she starts pp and crescendos gradually to ff, while gradually increasing the tempo, gradually reaching the peak with great excitement! The orchestra is fabulous!! They aren't heavy handed; they don't drown out the soloist, and they phrase along with her in perfect accompaniment. BRAVA, BRAVO, BRAVI! And I'm only through the first movement!
Hi Margaret
Magnificent! I find that all the Tchaikovsky music I know touches me so deeply. It seems to resonate with all my feelings, from joy to grief, from thunderous skies to clear, warm sunlight. And Ms Fischer is wonderful, as is Mr Petrenko. Bravissimi tutti !
One particularly lovely moment is at 30:30, especially the way the oboe replies to her phrase in artificial harmonics...and her little smile.
Such an exhilarating performance. The interaction between Julia and the orchestra is just so vibrant and dynamic. So wonderful!!
Heaven on earth........additionally we need all around sound in our concert halls...young audiences will grow like bees to the hive...
I love how her facial expression is not 'over the top', I watched a few different players performing this piece, but some how they have do much expression that is almost distracting. Her style is perfect!
Sanotaan jotain Suomeksikin. Valtava esitys valtavasta musiikista. Tämä viulukonserto on yksi maailman esitetyimmistä, eikä syyttä. You tube esityksistä tämä Julia Fischerin on ylivoimaisesti paras. Olen kuunnellut kymmeniä kertoja. Kiitos siitä. Taas jaksetaan...
Wow, I love her playing, her intonation and interpretation is excellent. And I love to see all the emotions in the conductor's face! Love love love this performance! Beautiful!
Her beautiful performance will quench and moisturize the dryness of the soul, and evoke comfortable feelings
I love the way she plays this piece. She doesn't exaggerate but powerful and delicate but not too soft. Every single note sounds clear. Not too emotional but addictive for some reason.
I keep coming back to this.
leaves me speechless every time..
The phrasing and emotion is superb. Highly inspiring
A truly stunning and thrilling performance. The soloist and the orchestra. I totally love the clarity and passion. Such a driving force.
Hi 👋
incredible perfomance, one of the best i've ever heard so far, and i've heard many versions from different orchestras.
Superlative! I have listened to dozen of interpretation of Tchaikovsky's violin concerto from brilliant violinists but Julia's exceeds all of them. Hers is truly prodigious.
Ohhh! I fell in love with this wonderful Tchaikovsky composition when I heard for the first time three years ago, as the central theme of the film "The Concert", a French russian coproduction. And now I have felt in love again with the incredible Mrs. Fisher interpretation 👏👏👏👏👏

A great concert, a wonderful performance, a talented violinist and one of the most beautiful women in this world.
What more could you want?
Oh my, she is incredible. Technically spot on, and beautiful emotional inflection. Virtuosity!!!
One of the best recordings ever and the whole orchestra is amazing I love it :)
a total master in her craft, truly one of the best interpretation i've heard so far, she really does bring life to the score. Tchaikovsky would be proud.
An amazing performance!!! Apart from the fact that Fischer is a musical genius......being the only soloist I know who has performed a violin and a piano concerto in one performance, her phrasing here is so clear and accurate! Many soloists of her level muddle the 3rd part due to its speed in some parts, and the listener cannot hear and appreciate every single note Tchaikovsky has written! She is really great!! An equally amazing modern performance is the Batiashvili / Canellakis one if anyone is intrested, very similar in overall quality and sound.
@Julia Fischer von Athen / Griechenland!🙏🏻
Creatura divina il Cielo ti protegga! Grazie 🙏! Ci fate felici! ❤️
Julia Fischer & Vasily Petrenko, parceria Perfeita!
One of my favorite concertos of any instrument, and this is my favorite recording of it so far. Amazing orchestra! They could be loud and intense when they needed to be, but they never got in the way of Julia.
Petrenko is such an underrated conductor. He was on point the whole time. I imagine the orchestra players had no trouble following his direction. He kept up with Julia and made it look easy.
And Julia, my gosh...I don't know anything about violin technique, but anybody can appreciate the fullness and purity of her tone. It's so clean that she can do all kinds of things with it, which you can clearly hear because it's so clean. It's a feedback loop, and it's brilliant! Case in point- 22:17. How can you not love that vibrato?
Props to the production crew as well. This was an excellent recording. Too many classical performances would've turned out well had they been recorded better. Not so in this recording. Everything is crystal clear.
Beeeeest version of this! Love u JULIA❤
I really love this piece. Quite possibly one of the most beautiful compositions I've heard in a long time.
i think this is the most graceful and elegant recording to the tchaikovsky yet. her emotional and interpretational discipline is just tasteful.
Amazingly played. Thank you sooooooooo much Julia and of course; Tchaikovsky
My favorite violin concerto and my favorite soloist. Bravo Julia!
The orchestration before the cadenza always gets me it’s such a dramatic moment for the symphony !
she plays effortlessly - but her interpretation is expressive n fresh sounding.
This concerto is the most brilliant of them all !!!
I love💜 the woodwinds interacting with each other and the look of bliss on the conductor's face as he leads the change from the Allegro Vivace- isso to their dreamy interaction.
