Is the GLE the luxury SUV to get? Or is it the x5? or step up and get yourself a Range Rover. Sorry about the audio, looks like there was some interference between my audio recorder and my phone.
Very nice review! Noticed Stanley park and the navigation system saying Burnaby haha! From a fellow BC resident, just wanted to thank you for your in depth review! Job well done 😊
Sometime next year I'm getting the GLE 350, I think the in-line 4-cylinder is sufficient for your usual commute or urban usage. If you want a more muscular engine then I think you might as well shell out the extra $$$ for the AMG version, or go with something like a Porsche Cayenne. The GLE is by far the most comfortable SUV to drive in the segment, no constructor even comes close. I've been most impressed by Merc's augmented reality navigation system, that's superb engineering there.
@@JimmyMak Fair enough, I'm more interested in having the ultimate comfortable ride rather than outright power. How was your experience with using MBUX ? I'm guessing you have to be careful not to say "Mercedes" too often.
Good review. I bought this car a few months ago. The GLE 450 SUV. Not AMG styling. And many of the options yours included I got. I got the Airmatic which allows me to control car height and suspension. It’s $1700 US. Not E active. It’s the smoothest most comfortable and plush car I’ve ever driven. And when I want to feel a bit racy, I put it in sport mode and the car lowers. I press on gas and it has a really nice growl. I did have some issues with remote starting and the key fob not being detected. Which resulted in my bringing the car in 6 times. Yes. 6. Hopefully now addressed. I do love the car though. It cost me $81,000 US. I think it’s worth it.
Did you test drive the 450 without the airmatic? If so, how big of a difference is it? I just test drove a GLE350, was not impressed with the ride, of course this was a basic GLE 350 and it was the only car on the lot mercedes seems to have these days.
@@sp00008 I have not but I have heard some people saying the ride with it feels a bit floaty. The airmatic allows you to adjust height of vehicle (5 inch difference) and suspension: harder for sport and floaty for comfort. There’s also a way to customize both to your liking. I wonder if you were not impressed due to the 350 which has a 4 cylinder engine. The 450 has 6. The difference in power is quite stark. Very very few GLEs are the 450s , so you will have some difficulty finding one.
Jimmy Mak... thank's for a great video. I've seen a few on the GLE 450 and yours a lot more informative and, maybe most importantly, more contextual. ie: what average buying will *actually* use.
Oof, somebody reviewing in the Lower Mainland. Gotta support. I've seen a lot of these GLE's around lately, most of them are the 350. I can't believe people option this without the sport/night package which gets you the diamond grill/amg stying.
To my knowledge, mercedes dropped the E-Active Body Control in USA. Not many consumers bought this option since it is a very expensive one. Do you have any knowledge of the drive with the Airmatic Suspension vs the regular steel suspension? I test drove the regular steel suspension and the ride was very bump. Now the GLS comes with standard Airmatic suspension and I happen to test drive that just to get a feel of how it would be and possibly get it on the GLE 450. The ride was way smoother on the GLS but I was told at the dealer that GLS has a longer wheel base, so this makes it smooth. Any thoughts or knowledge on the airmatic suspension on the GLE 450?
I can't believe whoever optioned this particular GLE out decided to option the $6900 upgraded sound system and not spend $1350 for rear climate control (which should be standard on this).
My previous owner chose exactly the same thing. I guess he/she focused on the driver’s needs and ear seat passengers might just be his/her young kids.😂
Just ordered a 2021 GLE 450, with AMG Line Exterior, AMG Line Interior, running boards, driver assistance package plus, Premium 1 package, Metal Weave trim, 4-zone climate control, and MB-Tex upper dash and door trim. It all came up to around $73k. However I need to wait around 8 weeks for it to arrive. But, I’m very excited to get it.
Just went test drive today GLE 450. So my strong opinion: On bumpy road with asphalt this is SUV not smooth ride at all. You can feel it very well. After that I went to drive Audi Q7 and driving much smooth then Mercedes, but not enough room and so so technology. After that I went drive BMW X5. Unbelievable that is a SUPER machine. Will order 2021 BMW X5 45E hybrid.
@@JimmyMak No Jimmy, dealer not offered it to us and they probably didn't have those feature in GLE 450 what we driven. May be it could be different I don't know but I wasn't impress with driven GLE 450- to hard and bumpy.
@@sunfarm1963 ah for sure, the ABC would be able to read the road and provide a much better ride. It’s been a while since I’ve driven the Audi or BMW so I’m unable to compare but the ABC is pretty magical.
I agree with you because I test drove a GLE 350 yesterday. Drive was just like you mentioned it, not smooth ride at all. Will the airmatic suspension make it smooth? I have no idea, I would really like to find out though because I have my eyes set on this GLE 450 but the dealers these days don't have anything on their lots to test drive and if they do, it is the basic steel suspension.

Great review! I'm thinking of this or a Cayenne. My heart wants the Cayenne but I don't think anything beats the GLE's comfort.

It’s sufficient for sure but sometimes when accelerating into the highway you want just a bit more, that’s why the GLE 450 makes sense.

How do you like this compared to the Cayenne?

can GLE tow?
Yup 7700lbs
is the second row automatic?
No, to fold them you’ll need to manually pull a lever
