    wow. That is a really, really nice coach. This is going to make a super nice motorhome to cruise around the country in. Can't wait to see the attention to detail that you put into this..

    What’s a beautiful coach!
    European buses always looked like spaceships compared to US ones.

    I was working for Neoplan in 1984, when this coach was built. It was made for the US-Branch of the German travel agency Globetrotter Reisen. GR had already a number of the coaches in service in Europe. It's a Neoplan Spaceliner N177/2 and was factory fitted with a Detroit diesel engine and an Allison autobox. The coach was built for the US-market specifications. European coaches and buses from that period and onwards had to have the least two doors on the right-hand side.

      I eventually got a response from Neoplan that this was part of a small order custom built for Pegasus. The Chassis Master (can't remember the title in German) remembered these and apparently at one point in trying to validate if they had made it they asked one of the Auwarters, who did remember them. I had issues with finding the VIN and they were able to explain where to find it.

    I remember ads for these in the FMCA magazines in the 1980s. Always was impressed with them. Saw a touring coach in Denver once (one with seats upstairs and downstairs). Impressive!

    That big deep compartment between the drivers and passengers seat is a sleeping compartment where a extra driver could sleep while they where on the road.

    Damn. It made it back to Texas. Not much left of the original interior. In the front the headliner and the cabinet with the tv in it. Cant remember who that one was built for but there were only a few built. The Detroit was an addition to the original chassis as well. Those roof airs would have put the Pegasus Autohaus guys in the grave. The bus had a chiller system in it. Really great idea but way too far advanced. The woodwork that they did there was absolutely second to none. Used to hang out there to see what they were cookin up. I built custom buses back then too. Those buses were featured in the Robb Report a decent amount. Look up those old magazines and youll find plenty of pictures of your bus. I would have really liked to see Neoplan get a foothold in the American market but it just wouldn't happen. Oh well. Good luck with that thing man!

      I took out the original TV Tower. I think it was reconverted in Los Angeles at some point and converted to roof air. They are simple and they work. The electrical panel is amusing to say the least with a Jacuzzi and Alcohol dispenser breakers. I will check out old Robb Report issues. This was bus number one from what I gathered.

    • @waltert8976
      @waltert8976 7 років тому

      Definitely not number one as that bus is in Saudi Arabia. I believe yours is number three.

      Perhaps... my info came from one of their employees who is still in contact with the founder. I authenticated the coach as a 1986 model year and Konrad Auwerter vouched that only about 30 were sent over here. Neoplan was a brand of Auwerter Coach and Body works. Only 2, maybe 3 of the 2 axle units were converted. This bus had a commemorative LA Olympics plate on it when I acquired it in California. I was able to ascertain the purchase history and that it made it to LA in 1988 which was very very early in the Pegasus story. This coach lacks some of the shazam that was in the other 2 axle coach. I only know of about 4 of them that still exist that were Pegasus. There may be others. It's an interesting coach, and extremely unique. It's in nice condition overall, but I need to do some interior work.

      It drives nicely. It's a great size. There are larger vehicles on American roads. You get alot of strange looks from other drivers, but it's very easy to drive.

    Hey Brian, I am in the process of purchasing a 1995 Pegasus Neoplan sky liner. The title shows it to have 12 Digits which is strange to me. I was hoping you could help me find the Vin Tag. We have looked in all the regular places. Where is it located on your coach?

    • @hotpuppy72
      @hotpuppy72  8 років тому

      Sure. Was it a Pegasus? or has it always been a Neoplan, i.e. not a conversion coach? Can you provide the first few digits of the VIN? I can look and tell you if the VIN is German or US. If it's the same series as mine I know exactly where the VIN is. Otherwise I have some documentation from Neoplan Germany that documents where it should be.

    ....... Hi Brian, this is a realy nice Bus.... wow..... I dont know that the "Spaceliners" was also produced for the american market..... awesome..... in germany you cant find some old Neoplans because the rust has give them no chances! And the engine is a Detroit V8....realy nice, for europe neoplan produced the busses only with Mercedes V8 (OM 402,OM442), scania engines and aircooled Deutz V8 turbos. What about the gearbox.... is that the panel from an Allison? The best on that type is the driver seatposition :D like in a sportscar........ ALL THE BEST FROM MIDDLE GERMANY,Roger

    • @hotpuppy72
      @hotpuppy72  8 років тому

      I believe Neoplan offered the Detroit as an option. Auwerter produced an exceptionally well made product. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is apparent throughout the vehicle. :) According to Konrad Auwerter only about 30 coaches were produced for export to North American luxury coaches. A few more may have been made by Neoplan USA, but it's not real clear.

      realy awesome to see! Do you have some driving video or something? That would be nice to see!
      I heard from the "big market" for the Auwaertes in USA..... in the 80s and 90s! :)
      The only way to drove an Detroit Diesel in a german bus in germany was the "Kaessbohrer Setra S215 HDH" some of these busttype were produced for the european market in the early 90s but now you cant find it no more!
      On my channel are two coldstarting videos from a 1996 Neoplan Skyliner with an Mercedes V8 turbo OM 402LA and 381hp..... this bus I had driven for a testdrive but the electronic shifter was not ok and after ten minutes everything was come to an end.... :D

    this is the most 80s thing i've ever seen :D
    the whole nasty stuff inside definitely needs to fly out (at least i'd tear out all those nasty 80s carpets and refurbish the inside a little bit), but dude! otherwise this thing looks mint, even the paintjob looks in great condition! Supercool!
