I’m so glad I found this video. I met you when I was helping your parents sell their home in Forest Hills, what must’ve been 11 or 12 years ago. You (and your sister) made such a great impression on me back then. In any case, this video is super helpful as I’m attempting to write about my time climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2020, at the height of Covid. Also, I I have a small SF booktube review channel. Good luck!
I learned that we don't have to write what we think is popular or what we think will sell but rather what we want to write based on our artistic taste, empathy is very important in writing and we need it in order to sympathize with and understand our characters and what they are feeling, we can lower our standards of perfection and instead keep writing and creating things even if it isn't good and we can learn a lot more from creating a lot of projects than abandoning ones we don't think are enough, the way we think of ourselves and how we think others see us can have a big effect on what we do, no amount of experience or preparation will ever be enough so one is never too inexperienced or young to start writing, when we realize that our time here on earth is limited, we are compelled to make the most of it, every once in a while, it is good to lay constraints for ourselves as it forces us to think outside of the box, we don't have to worry about getting the latest or best writing tools because they are not as important as our minds and what it can create, we will never know what we are capable of creating unless we try and we must not let the feeling of not being able to create something as good as another thing stop us from creating our own work, creativity begets creativity and it can make life feel more vivid and purposeful, we can challenge ourselves to creative habits that may transform our outlook on our everyday life, we are not defined by numbers and instead of being bothered by them, we must use our creativity to better understand our place in the world, writing is one of the best ways to explore questions we have and it is also a way of understanding the world as great stories (even when it is is fictional) can reflect something true, we must be alert and open to new ideas by writing down, drawing, or taking a picture whenever inspiration hits, and when we take the first step (even if we may fail again and again) can we eventually master something. Have an amazing April, Grayson! God bless you and your work :)
I agree with you that we must remember our lives are limited, that the rug can be pulled out from underneath us at any time. I’ve been deeply cognizant of that reality from an early age, having lost my soulmate at 19. I see life as one super long vacation and live mine as a fearless explorer and adventurer, always chasing after the next big dream and adding it to my DONE list. Since I have had so many different life experiences, it may appear to some that I am trying to experience everything possible, but I’m not. I am only focused on realizing my biggest dreams and desires. I’m not focused on materialistic achievements either, as everyone knows, we can’t take physical things with us when this all comes to an end. Everything else, however is ours to keep. ❤
I liked your last one, creative constraints. It reminded me (funnily enough) of twitters word limit. I found myself able to convey the same message with a much lower word count. It also reminded me of this book I read called 'Several short sentences about Writing'. It's a really good book that I feel like you'll benefit from if you haven't read it before.
holy crap your videos are so inspiring! i feel like i genuinely learn something new from each one. and i just gotta say the editing is impeccable here. you're awesome.

Great advice. But also, sooo much work must have went into cinematography/editing. I am taking my hat off to you and leaving a comment to encourage the algorithm to do the same.
I wanted to like the video, but you currently have 69 likes, and I can not bring upon myself the responsibility of breaking such a number. I loved the video though.
This inspired me to finish editing my the last few chapters of my book. And now, here I am: Done.
It’s been awhile since I’ve tried to write a novel but I’m back at it again

Damn, I think I know what my next tattoo will be!!
I didn’t know you’re an introvert because you seem like such a social person. I’m an extrovert myself.
Inspiring, soulful, and humble!
Thank you so much, Grayson!

A writing fan!
All your videos are so helpful! Thank you! 🙂
I think that all of us have something to say... We just need peace and time to think.
