Literally the only thing at my school that changed was milk had to be taken at lunch, and the donuts, ice cream, pastries, that we could buy during lunch were now only available before our classes start. Most schools use a distributor and then reheat the food on site. The food from these distributors was already pretty healthy, so they didn't need to make any changes. She basically got rid of all the crap that kids could buy in a cafeteria. You should be thanking her.

My dad used to bring "rations" home for us sometime. Being a child of the 50's I sampled a lot of c-rations. (the canned stuff) in the 60s he brought home some stuff that must have gone on the airforce planes called K-rations. It was a big peel open tin that had sort of individual bars that were sort of a striped fruit jelly candy bar kind of thing. Great description huh? They were coated with sugar. We thought they were great. Have you come across anything like that?
My brother was in the Armed forces back in the early 90's... Its interesting to know that they are still making the blueberry Oatmeal breakfast and yes it does taste really good.. One of the few rations that I really liked that he brought home with him.

@James Boonie My mother usually brought home extra MRE's when her training was done. I remember my brother and I eating them and enjoying them for the most part. I can't remember if we ever had to suffer through vegetarian ones, but I've never really heard good things about them.

Love that the "toaster pastry" is the actual Pop Tart brand. My brother got many MREs that included a full-size bag of M&Ms. It's probably so nice to see something familiar.
I didn't know anything about MREs until I read "Wild" a couple of years ago where the author talked about the food she brought with her during her trip. I always wondered what they looked like and yeah, they look quite boring to look at but I'm sure they must have some kind of taste.
I am absolutely a biscuits and gravy lover & I make my own from scratch on occasion and for some reason, it was nice to see someone eating sausage gravy lol. It’s not necessarily a common breakfast food
The toilet paper included in the MRE is entirely sufficient. After eating them for a week your turd will flop out like one of the red bricks my house is made of with not much cling on but plenty of rough, sharp edges! When you see a troop out in the field, his face isn't red from sun burn, its still red from trying to push that damn brick out!
I love your videos, because you always show all of the food or product you're eating and you explain in detail very well about how it tastes, the textures, and what it's similar to. Your reviews are always that most helpful and interesting to watch!
Emmymade, I love to watch you "eating" MRE's, which are a lot different than when I was in the Marines. You are so positive, all the time; you make my smile as I enjoy watching your videos. Brenda

It's so funny, she sees your face and she knows who you are "MOMMY! It's EMMMMMYYYYY!" She'll yell. Lol. We've been watching you together for such a long time.
I'd have to put that packet of cheese in the box with the entree. (not inside the heating bag, just tuck it in the box.) When I make Velveeta Mac~Cheese, I throw the packet of cheese in the boiling water with the pasta, let it all boil, pull it out and drain the pasta. When you snip the corner of the cheese pouch off, pour the hot cheese over the drained pasta...careful, though, it flows out a lot easier!
Back in the day when we were given MREs boxes because of a recent hurricane disaster strucked our city. I thought most of the stuff tasted salty, but I was grateful for these packs because we had no power, running water, and ect. They were fun to set up as a kid.
I remember this channel, i use to watch it when I was young and Emmy use to do those poppin cooking.. Then i forgot a bit about it and now im like holy crap! I remember this channel! Hahahaha. Xxxxxxx
emmymadeinjapan| HI emmy I have been a subscriber to your channel for a month and a half and if don't mind me asking, how did you come up with your channel's name?
The gum probably contains xylitol, which does have laxative properties if too much is consumed. Some people are more sensitive to the ingredient than others.
My boyfriend goes on Exercise this month, hes in British Army, doing his training. hes promised hes going to steal me a British Ration Pack, because he's seen me watching your videos and thinks I'm obsessed with watching you, and these type of videos haha! I can't wait to try one x
Soldiers need more than one a day because they are highly active. One MRE has enough calories for one day for a normal adult. So unless your highly active I wouldn't eat them every day. When my husband was in the army he brought ones he didn't like home for me cause I like them. They are kinda expensive though, especially if you buy by the box. They are almost 10.00 a single MRE pending where you buy.
Depending on which menu you get an MRE can come with a wheat snack bread. It's about 1/4 inch thick x 4 x 4, (that's a guess) It makes a good biscuit to put the sausage and gravy on. Love it. Also, the MRE heat can be used a second time if you want to heat the coffee.
this is for US military not day to day tasks if your gonna die soon from starvation take this or if they are feeling really tired but you still have to be at your post have some coffe
Hi Emmy! Just so you know, the American MREs are actually considered three meals in each bag. They are about 3000 calories so that would be a LOT of calories for one meal. They have breakfast, lunch, a snack and dinner. In your bag, the pop tart is for breakfast, the cheese spread and crackers are for lunch, the granola is for a snack and the Sausage & Gravy is for dinner. I don't know if the gum is a laxative or not. In the 70s and 80s, they had a laxative called Feen-a-mint. It looked just like the white peppermint gum that comes with a lot of the MREs. I kind of doubt the gum is a laxative because you wouldn't want to be in the middle of a battle and suddenly have to go to the bathroom. I think the gum may be something I found when I was looking for Feen-a-mint. The other gum was called "Military Energy Gum." They look like Chiclets, but they give you energy and they come in peppermint, cinnamon and spearmint. Most likely the gum is just Chiclets. I believe I read it somewhere. Just to reiterate, the USA MREs are three meals in a bag and not one whole meal. If they ate one MRE a meal (that would be 9000 calories a day total), they would be on what they call "The Fat Boy Program" really quick. LOL
Watched this right after the French ration and visually they can't compare, though I too was excited by the Pop Tart. Amazing what childhood memories can bring into adulthood. Thank you Emmy!
lol kool-aid never gives me a "throw back to childhood" as i sadly still drink kool-aid anyways :P lol i also still eat stuff like fruit roll-ups and Lunchables. its not like any of it has an age limit. :P im 26.
Hope Ellis Although I am American, I don't really like Kool-Aid. It's far too sweet and artificial but once in a while it's ok. And besides, when ever my teeth scrape each other, I can feel the artificial sweetener. Eww
I ate one my husband brought home for me to try many years ago. After eating it I promptly threw up lol. He has no problem eating 2-3 a day but I couldn't do it.
Did you call me a Dorito? Emmy, I would like to know how to send you a Military Ration, as in your Adventures, I dont believe you have had a Canadian Military Ration yet!
In the US, we have white gravy and brown gravy. They're both made like traditional gravies (drippings and bits from meat) but the white gravy includes quite a bit of flour and often black pepper. It is traditional in the south to serve ground sausage with white gravy, generally on top of a biscuit (the American breakfast variety). Probably more than you ever cared to know about American gravy habits lol
+Badzeep I thought the same. I would have called that more of a sauce than a gravy. But its the same thing with the biscuits which would go with the gravy (not in this video) which I would call scones.
+Paul Ellis it's still gravy just not meat based. I couldn't necessarily explain how its made since it's a meal not eaten often eaten in my house because of the fat content, even though we use gravy packets, as far as I know my Grandmother says it takes a lot of fat to make homemade or bacon grease depending. bacon grease is used a lot of southern cooking btw.
+Jocelyn Wright well he has a point... I thought the same thing, but didn't wan't to be the creeper posting about it... ( look at me now) The MRE reviews are great, and love to watch. Especially while I'm eating, lol.
Jocelyn Wright If you are speaking to me, i was agreeing with what you said...("nice teeth") Sorry if I'm wrong, cant see all comments ATM on my phone. I can see how, looking back at the post, it looks like I'm agreeing with the moron, but no.... so far from the truth.
So, I assume youve been told, but Ill go anyway. The beverage bag. After putting the powder and water in, seal it up, then shake or whatever. When ready to consume, turn it upside down so the seal is pointing groundward. Bite off one of the corners. That way you can squirt the liquid into your mouth without too much mess or fuss. As long as you dont squeeze super hard, the seal will hold perfectly.
That really does seem like the wrong type of gravy to be paired with sausage... I would've thought it'd use meat based (British/Commonwealth style), or onion based gravy that doesn't have an over-abundance of milk.
It's pretty good. I'm not from the south but it's a pretty breakfast. They make the gravy out of the dripping of the sausage with flour and milk. They serve it on top of biscuits ( what you would call scones)
I know it's made using the juices of the sausage, it's the use of milk as the base liquid of the sauce that seems off to me. An onion based gravy can also be seasoned with sage, as sage + onion is a really good pairing for pork. If it was biscuits or white meat and white gravy, I could understand it.
my husband is in the military and sometimes when we would go fishing in the summer, we would take an mre each. our faves are chili and beans it's so good lol
Emmy, I don't know but I always feel you are such a calm and good person. I cannot even imagine you being angry. You seem to be such a positive person. :)
pop tarts r ready to eat... but r slightly under cooked and best out of the toaster. it bugs me when they have non americans taste test pop tarts without toasting them. they r so much better toasted!!
If your eating an MRE you won't have access to a toaster! Lol. The best that can be done is sit it on am engine block, a hot rock or slide it into you FRH.
Protip with the cheese spread is to put it in the box with the heater while you warm up your entree. It gets the cheese warm and gooey and easier to spread.
Did you call me a Dorito? ;) that gravy actually looked good, a biscuit would go great with that. These videos are my most FAVORITE of the ones that you do. It's kind of a way to see what the military or whoever is eating it go through and it makes me appreciate what I have! Thanks for the videos :)
I'm new to the channel but I must say you are the sweetest youtuber ever and I am so glad I found your channel! I love the MRE videos and I can't wait for more! (I also love your Dango video but I'll save that for another video!
My favorite MRE was in the early 00s...Chicken & Rice. The entrée may still exist but they changed up the menu items. It sometimes came with TWO bags of M&Ms!
Wow, you hit the motherload here. Perfect MRE in my opinion. My dad used to bring home MREs (he's now retired from the military but we still have plenty of very, very outdated MREs) and I'd tear them apart looking for the crackers and cheese. I rarely ate any of the entrees because I have a strong dislike for onions and mushrooms, but there seems to be none of that in this MRE. That being said, nobody really looks forward to eating an MRE but there's always that bit of novelty, especially as a kid.
Some fun facts from the Marine Corps. While deployed in the field, I've had to poop in those mre bags and stuff it back in my pack to avoid leaving traces of our patrol. The towlette was more othen used for wiping our manly-bits to avoid infection, because it's not uncommon to go almost a few weeks without any kind of washing. Very often, one MRE would have to last a whole day. And lastly, for my birthday while deployed, my buddies made me a "cake." it was a poptart with matches stuck in it. It was literally my best birthday ever.
I'm curious to know if you were ever an English major? You have a very colorful vocabulary and your descriptive skills bring a nice quality to your videos.
I actually seen a recent story about this MRE meals for the US. They are trying to improve the MRE meals to make them better tasting and they are hoping to come out with an MRE pizza meal. Alot of the soldiers have requested over the years to have pizza and I believe that they are gonna get it in the next couple of years.
not gonna lie these MREs look so good...better than school lunch

Are these MRE's meant as one meal or a full days food?
+Josie Ella one meal
One meal for most of them, a couple countries do all day ration packs but it's really obvious which ones those are because they're huge.
+TreClaire thank you!
+Magic Penguin thank you! I wonder how they have room in their packs for all the meal packs if they aren't near their base.
I hate how US MREs don't have tea in them, I don't drink coffee. but I drink a lot of tea.
Same
mine had tea in it.
+Austin Shook we all can't be cool like you
this is for US military not day to day tasks if your gonna die soon from starvation take this or if they are feeling really tired but you still have to be at your post have some coffe
lmao this shit is for soldiers
LOL
i Love your videos
Love her videos too
+Rani Mehan 😁😁
Watched this right after the French ration and visually they can't compare, though I too was excited by the Pop Tart. Amazing what childhood memories can bring into adulthood. Thank you Emmy!
lol kool-aid never gives me a "throw back to childhood" as i sadly still drink kool-aid anyways :P lol i also still eat stuff like fruit roll-ups and Lunchables. its not like any of it has an age limit. :P im 26.
I can't really drink kool-aid.. I'm allergic to some of the dyes they use. ;-;
Confession: I have never drunk kool aid before
+Dylan Chew neither but I'm not American so that's why...
Hope Ellis Although I am American, I don't really like Kool-Aid. It's far too sweet and artificial but once in a while it's ok. And besides, when ever my teeth scrape each other, I can feel the artificial sweetener. Eww
I can't eat any of that stuff anymore. I had it all the time growing up now I have all sorts of health problems.
Does anyone else get ASMR from these? The bag sounds are amazing
These suck when you have to eat them every day. If you don't drink lots of water with them they will "plug you up".
I ate one my husband brought home for me to try many years ago. After eating it I promptly threw up lol. He has no problem eating 2-3 a day but I couldn't do it.
+Kevin Letterman Meals Refusing to Exit.
Hahahaha yep.
Are the "gums" laxatives?
No. However, if you don't drink a lot of water when you have to live off of MRE's you will wish they were....
Her smile is the most beautiful smile i have ever seen
Did you call me a Dorito? Emmy, I would like to know how to send you a Military Ration, as in your Adventures, I dont believe you have had a Canadian Military Ration yet!
+Kit Irving Oh my goodness, that would be AMAZING. You can find all the information here: ua-cam.com/users/emmymadeinjapanabout Thank you! 😆
Perfect. It wont be for a few months, as we are hoping to grab some before our move this summer, but I will get one to you!
when emmy posts an MRE video, life is made
I expected actual real gravy instead of a white sauce.
Forgot that gravy is different in the US for a sec. So odd.
Haha, don't worry, I already knew. Thank you for the reply though. :)
+Badzeep I thought the same. I would have called that more of a sauce than a gravy. But its the same thing with the biscuits which would go with the gravy (not in this video) which I would call scones.
White gravy is milk based that's why it's white an flour is just used to thicken it.
Emmy is so cute, she made all the food good.
not trying to be strange, but you have great teeth. :)
Not trying to be strange, but you look especially pale beside that gentleman.
Lol
Not to be strange, but Emmy, you are on fleek..
+R0llinr0kk3r I meant pretty good breakfast, not pretty breakfast. It kinda looks like slop, not very attractive at all but good
+GothShinobi
It's not a dish where a gravy is served along side of sausage. It's a sauce/gravy made from sausage that is seasoned with sage.
I know it's made using the juices of the sausage, it's the use of milk as the base liquid of the sauce that seems off to me. An onion based gravy can also be seasoned with sage, as sage + onion is a really good pairing for pork. If it was biscuits or white meat and white gravy, I could understand it.
+GothShinobi Look up Sawmill gravy, that is basically what this is. It is an American Southern staple with biscuits.
my husband is in the military and sometimes when we would go fishing in the summer, we would take an mre each. our faves are chili and beans it's so good lol
You're adorable.
Yo, if your outside in war and your hungry, who the fuck would have a toaster.
+Sans right? No one has a fucking toaster in war lol
If your eating an MRE you won't have access to a toaster! Lol.
The best that can be done is sit it on am engine block, a hot rock or slide it into you FRH.
Bigdaddyhognuts666 Oh I'll just grab my toaster on a mission, oh wait there isn't one.
Im pretty sure she is American
I came across your vids a few years back watching MRE vids and then seen your bugmas vids...your pretty awesome and gutsy...good stuff!
Great video👍 if your going to do more MRE videos, you should get a rock or something😎
+delana phelps hahaha!
Yes! I love these MRE videos!
I'm surprised they did the sausage and gravy... without bread/roll? No one eats just the sausage and gravy!!!! Gross!! lol
Well in survival/war situation i think that is fine.
But yea i can't respond to your comment.
And it tastes absolutely terrible. Had a few of these back in training, and those were some of the more terrible days simply because the SnG MRE
Tribe Foord if it is good gravy i mean I would just eat it. or it if was the only food around (like in a survival situation) people would eat the mre
I love the violin music at the end it makes me feel calm
Protip with the cheese spread is to put it in the box with the heater while you warm up your entree. It gets the cheese warm and gooey and easier to spread.
I love these videos Emmy! I stop everything to watch them!(:
This is actually one of the best MRE's in existence!
Her voice is so soothing
Awesome, I love your MRE videos, thank you Emmy
Great video. I really enjoyed watching. I just gave you a much deserved thumbs up!!!!
YAS. More MRE's! X3
Love watching these!
Hi Emmy. My favorite MRE is the Chili w/Beans, menu #1. Try and track one of those down if you can. It comes with cornbread and extra red pepper.
You are Great at explaining Emmy i love that😊
I absolutely love this series
After being deployed over seas.. I loved the biscuit and gravy with sausage.. i brought a bunch of these back home with me!!
My family and I always eat MRE's when camping. I love them. They can feed like two people.
I'm curious to know if you were ever an English major? You have a very colorful vocabulary and your descriptive skills bring a nice quality to your videos.
The southerner in me is dying about the fact that there are no biscuits with the sausage gravy 😂😂😂😂
Gd vid thx. Not only are your videos quite informative, but your presentation is mMm perfect.
