    We did the Thames 22 years ago and enjoyed it. Saw the late Prince Phillip driving his carriage team and he returned our waves. I agree on the sameness in places but found moorings ok on our June cruise, some glorious locations and sights but we were cruising 6 hours or more each day. Did find water points an issue but managed.

      I'm pleased you had a great holiday it is truly a lovely place. Perhaps in the 22yrs there are more boats and I think the moorings have been left to over grow

    I worked on many big houses for wealthy people over the years and the owners were all the same , they always wanted more , more money , more possessions , they were never happy with what they had , as my mom used to say " much wants more and the devil takes the lot " .

    Most people enjoy their homes and like living comfortably because they can afford it. I'd live in Windsor in a heartbeat. Having 6 dogs on a nb has to be quite the hassle when you can't find moorings that suit you.Glad it works for you.

    Running the engin on higher revs will have been good for it; cleans out the pots and stops them glazing up.
    Enjoy the rest of your trip, thanks for sharing,

    We are from Canada. We did the Thames ring 5 years ago in May and we had no problems. The visitor moorings were abundant and we didn't have to pay for a single night. The traffic was sparse and the weather was fantastic. Sounds like a journey in the peak summer months is a potential disaster.

    Keep your chins up Chugabugs. Life isn't always as down as it feels. Something magical is waiting for you just around the next corner. Let it flow with feelings of excitement on what's to come. Life isn't always a bed of roses. They have thorns too. Be safe and enjoy. 🖖👍

      It certainly gets better that's for sure, the weather didn't help much but we just wish there were more moorings

    Abingdon bought back lovely memories as my mother grew up there and was married in that lovely church, we hired a narrow boat from Eynsham went through Oxford and moored on the meadow with Mum & my three adult daughters so my mother could show the girls her family history.

    You know what Gary, those wealthy people can keep their expensive houses. All that money paying councils and services for everything, they’re welcome to it. We have the best life, mainly free as birds!!! When we pop our clogs we all go with nothing.
    Lechlade you will love. Just 20 minutes from where we lived when we had a house. Get yourself into the village for a look around The Cotswold Christmas Shop! Over the years I spent a bloody fortune in there when owned by the previous lady. The fish and chip shop (Monica’s) by the traffic lights, was lovely, I hope it still is. xx

    Gary and Nicky, just wanted to tell you how much we have enjoyed your trip on the Thames. Really appreciate how much effort you put into explaining the history and showing so many different sites. Not sure if we will ever get back to England (we are from Canada) but love seeing it through your narrowboat travels.
    Was just wondering if Nicky was a teacher before. You seem to have so much patience teaching the kids when we see you on Noah’s channel.
    Once again thank you for allowing us to travel with you. Really enjoy it.

    Blimey Gary , I don,t think you're gonna start smiling again until you get past the Watford Gap and officially leave the South behind.
    I,m sorry you didn't enjoy our beautiful Thames but I feel that like many vloggers before you , you all fly through far to quick and miss a lot of the moorings and facilities as some are hidden away. However Bon voyage and happier times as you presumably start to head north again.
    Best wishes , The Grey Goose , Berks.👍😁

      Hi bud, its not that we're rushing at all. We planned so many stops so that we can explore and share but we simply couldn't moor up, we tried several types to wild moor but came close to putting the indoor through.
      We are now heading for Lechlade and I have to say its close to being our new favourite, it's absolutely stunning.mits only from Marlow to Abingdon that we really struggled with, the rest is amazing as you'll see in other vlogs matey

    Gary
    That moan went on for some time and was only partly justified. There are lots of moorings in Reading including by a large Tesco just by the River Kennett mouth. The Thames needs a different mindset and neat moorings with rings or waling (not Armco, please) are not always available. I agree about the waterpoints where EA have not come out well with some of their choices.
    Jeff

    • @GaryCaptainPhillips
      @GaryCaptainPhillips  4 місяці тому

      Honestly Keff there were NO moorings at all (not ones we would feel safe) The book had loads of them listed but they were either full or non existent. As most hire boats are limited to that part of the Thames (due to bridge height) they were all full, sometimes even triple breasted

    I'm sorry you've not enjoyed this section of the cruise,we've watched your vlogs from the start and were surprised that you didn't check the moorings on the Thames most boaters know it's hard work the only thing i can't understand why you were grumbling about having to buy 6 life jackets its you who chose how many dogs you have, hope you enjoy the rest of the river stay safe and never go on the Yorkshire ouse if you thought the moorings were difficult here.

    • @GaryCaptainPhillips
      @GaryCaptainPhillips  4 місяці тому

      I did say that this is just our experience so not everyone has 6 dogs as I said lol. We have a few Navigation books for the Thames and we always highlight moorings before every trip but several moorings were either over grown or simply not there. I'm happy to say though that we're now absolutely loving the Thames now, infact it's probably our favourite waters
