I love retics too. I have only kept them about 9 years though. Ive kept burmese for a lot longer, over 20. I have also had an African rock python for the past 2 years and theyve quickly become my favorite. Id also mention that Afrocks are totally bigger than any boa except for green anacondas. Infact so are Southern African pythons (Python Natalensis) So saying this guy has the top 4 largest isnt totally accurate. Afrocks arent even that much smaller than green anaconda to be totally honest. Mine is above average in size. Shes 2 years old and 12ft long. Ive never seen a 2 year old anaconda as big as she is thats for sure. She only just hatched back in August of 2022. She's not even old enough to breed yet. Shes FAR larger than any of my burms or retics were at her age too. I have a retic her age who is within about a foot of her in length, but shes not even half her weight. I highly reccomend Afrocks if you like retics. They are even more active and intelligent than retics are. They are nothing like a burm at all except for their tendency to hiss.
I love when u do these reptile tours from different places one of my favorite tours was when you were in UK and the guy turned his whole house into an ecosystem.
I like that one too. I think it was somewhere in Europe but not UK. I can't remember exactly where tho. Are you talking about the one where he dug his own basement?
@@highjinx6519 it's on Dav Kaufman reptiles adventure I believe that video was the one with Sean Paul is the guys name he turned his whole house into a bioactive ecosystem it's gorgeous.
As someone who grew up in Ocean County NJ, I'm always delighted to see people working with NJ pines. Bulls get all the love but imo nothing beats a nice black and white NJ pine
That was such an amazing video! The snakes are magnificent, and Josh is so SMART!! .... a lot of genetic knowledge, herpetology knowledge and a lot of hard work. Thanks for letting us see these beautiful snakes.
South Bay Reptiles has such a diverse of snakes as well as other reptiles!! Definitely can't wait for a follow-up with Josh in the near future on his ever expanding collection of reptiles!!
This was such a good tour! Thanks to you and Josh! It's hilarious because I was literally thinking, there are other people seriously working with retics besides Garrett?? And then you said that. 🤣
Amazing video as always! Absolutely love burmese. I have a double homozygous T+ albino female. If I am correct there is only a handful in North America.
Do you mean like Wei line T+ and Gulf coast line T+ at the same time? If so yeah that's uber rare. There are plenty of visual caramels though (T+). I'm breeding some hets rightnow trying to make some myself. I'm working with 2 from the Gulf coast line. Both have a bunch of other hets, but i just want to make as many caramels with het granite as possible. Visual granite caramel has too much going on. HET granite caramels though just look like normal Caramels but with slightly prettier patterns.
Great video Dav. As always. That was an awesome tour. That dude is killing it. An awesome and diverse collection of animals. Some stunning sd retics been shown. He mentions garrett and how ahead of everyone else in the sd game he is. It’s very true. Garrett practically sets the value/price in the sd game. Whenever people are looking to put a price on a certain animal they look to garrett’s morph market page to see if he has an animal that has the same or similar genetics and what the price is. Via his youtube channel he brought a lot of new people to the sd game and business is booming from what I can tell. Most people just looking to get into the dwarf and super dwarf game will most likely come across garrett before most other sd breeders. Simply put Garrett is the man when it comes to dwarf and super dwarf retics.
That green anaconda is also gorgous - dream snake of mine. Burms are beautiful too. Pied Burms are one of my fav pieds for sure. My Colombian boa is named Samuel Fernando Escobar, Sam for short, always love the "Steve" "Brad" "Dave" type names for snakes lmao
Dav! Please come to an Oregon show!!! I would love a chance to meet you! JMGreptiles is supposed to be comic for fall/winter shows! You should come when he does!
In the market for a family first snake. I have had plenty over the years, but the wife is afraid of snakes, I have finally worked my way into getting the approval. Now I am looking online for a boa and finding plenty of sites that show plenty of pictures, but everything is apparently sold out. Any suggestions for place that actually has snakes in stock and not just waiting lists? I am looking for a young or baby that I can have for many years.
If i had a green id have all 4 too. I have burms, retics, and an Afrock (Idk why boas were considered top 4 in this vid). Ironically my Afrock is going to be the biggest though. Shes far larger than any of my burms or retics were at her age (shes my youngest). She somehow reached 10ft by her 1st birthday. Now shes 12ft, 2 years old, and clearly hitting another growth spurt. Expecting at least 15ft out of her eventually, but she could potentially reach 17ft or 18ft. Only time will tell. Shes HEAVY for a 12ft snake though. About twice what my retics would weigh at the same length, if not more.
I’m starting a ball python breeding business and in the future I’m planning on breeding other species of pythons. I’m going to the Cape Gerardo reptile expo in October and I’m super excited! Wish me luck!
All these animals are obviously very healthy and taken care of but I don’t understand why you’d want to keep the snakes in empty boxes with nothing but paper on the bottom. It doesn’t make any sense
It’s for breeding. Rack systems provide for much higher quantities of snakes where as if you have a nice vibration for your snakes like the average person would have for a pet it would mean cutting the amount of snakes in half or more which means less supply and less money
CA T+! I want a Pure Nic T+ pair to do Sunglow Pure Nicaraguans lol, already have a pair of Pure Sonoran Leopard project lol. (Male from Vin Russo himself.) Gorgeous boas man. Boas are so versatile, including in their personality lol. I have boas that crawl out to see me and others that are terrified no matter how much I work with them. Glad to see more locality boa enthusiasm and just boas in general!!
Why are we giving garrett hard on so much publicity while showing a competitor of his in the same business? Beautiful snakes and super friendly cool guy, but it was honestly a little obnoxious
Probably because the hobby/industry has a long history of nastiness and rather immature behavior amongst breeders. A trend that a lot of people are trying to break. Many localities died out because people refused to work together or even share information. Breeders literally let rare localities and species disappear from the U. S. Pet trade because they couldn't successfully breed them but absolutely refused to share tips amongst one another. Not to mention the bad rap the hobby got from people slinging dirt on one anothers husbandry and business practices. It got real bad there for awhile. We didn't work together to fight anti reptile keeping legislation because breeders in other states where hoping others would loose the right to keep their animals. There are sooo many Australian species that are awesome and use to be in our pet trade and this is one of the main reasons they aren't any longer.
I could never own a designer morph. Trendy accessory colors on live things just my least favorite thing. Like dressing dogs in weird clothing type wrong to me. I like what you would see most often surviving naturally.
So.. Where were these four biggest snakes in the world as mentioned in the title? That's just click baiting as there were no such thing, not more than he had mid-sized (and beautiful) snakes of some of the largest species in the world.
Yeah, boa also aren't even one of the 4 biggest species. They are more like the 5th or 6th heaviest by weight. Even further down if you are going by length. He does have the 3 heaviest species of snake though. That IS impressive IMO. I keep the 3 largest pythons myself. I dont keep boa though, so no anaconda. Ive got pairs of retics and burms, and a single african rock python though. Im still looking for a male for my afrock though. I'm extremely picky on who I pair with her because shes a truly exceptional snake. Her temperament, size, and colors are all absolutely phenomenal. She has no prey drive either. I can lay a F/T rabbit right next to her, by hand, and she wont even strike at it. She just opens her mouth and eats it. She doesn't strike at all, not defensively or even to eat. She moves a LOT though and is a still handful to handle because shes both very stubborn and very strong lol. Afrocks are considerably stronger than retics or burms of their size. Smarter and more active too IMO. Their strength is a lot like a giant boa. Much like most boa, they are also taller than they are wide in the cross section. I could tell the 3 big pythons apart blindfilded just by their body composition and overall shape. They all are very different.

Completely agree, especially when I just watched a video of a guy making a 1250 gallon enclosure for one animal 🙄
Yeah sounds like he really liked his snakes but the enclosures looked horrible and not just empty but small.
And I'm not against racks (if it's a land living snake) if there is enough space and the snake gets the light that species needs.

Keeping plenty of snakes in racks and on paper isn't impressive. Poor American reptile keeping. We want to see great naturalistic enclosures.
