I agree with you in that they should have put one of the lower settings as stock. They couldn't, of course, because they needed the highest numbers on everything for their marketing slides and presentation. They can't say "If you overclock it, you will get..." because Intel would chew them up with their numbers.

But even with 65w they often match intel, with 105w they still beat intel, and with a little tuning (not the limits) they can stil get 100% of the performance at only 80watts-ish.
They could do 105w with -15mv and still beat the competition handily.

@@justiful9215 "true" check optimum tech channel for their cover of this and you can see for yourself.
Also 3D zen4 is the answer to raptorlake in January so amd is effectively having 2 product releases within 6 months with Intel sandwiched in the middle. So amd can have thier cake now AND eat it later.
Some people are put off by the high temps and platform costs, but if Md did release it lower clocked...
Buyers will see faster than alderlake performance with low temps and power and the added option of pushing more IF they want. Giving customers more options.
Then if raptorlake comes out swinging those with the higher power limit zen4 options enabled will say "meh" and those with low power ticked will obviously be happy they don't have eaptorlakes temps and power draw.
So buyers can have it both ways, and if raptorlake REALLY came out swinging in games it would only be a few months before 3X took the crown back.... and intel has no answer to that for another year until the whole platform needs replacing with lga2551 in which case...zen5 isn't too far away and doesn't require a platform change.
So you can see the huge options at amds disposal would be great if they used them. As it is having people turn their power down sounds like desperation (like the last few years of intel) as opposed to an "opt-in" for more performance where users know the consequences of thier choices.

So I used cinebench r23 and ran multiple tests, from my findings the scores were relatively the same between stock/105w even going as far as using Amd master eco mode but my best scores and lowest power use was using your 105w then also setting precision boost from the extreme tweaker page to lv1 (90c) (didn’t test lv2 or lv3) which I’m sure would of been even lower Watts but wanted lower power use with the same performance

This isn't actually the official Eco mode, this is setting a manual power limit. Also, if you are going to the extra effort of doing this, you may as well set a negative voltage offset, -10 should be stable for most, and often -15 to -25 is achievable. -20 offset is perfectly stable for me on 5800x. In this manner, you can reduce power a good bit while retaining or exceeding stock performance, and if you are going for power, it helps retain frequency while further reducing power usage.

oddly enough I can tell by Ryzen Master when running Cinebench R23 MT testing that I am indeed running at reduced PPT, TDC, and ECU values yet I have zero reduction in CPU Temp. Stays at 85-87C and this was the case prior to the bios settings here. Prior my R23 score was 28K and it just ran 15K. I can see the socket wattage still staying around 103w too. I have a 7900X and this is still well above the 7950X draw you show on your chart. I think I'm going to leave it as default if my performance was nearly %50 reduced with zero temp drops....I'm running a 360 AIO as well. Not sure if my Asus board is just not great with these adjustments or my CPU is also not great....another issue is I cannot get Curve Optimizer to successfully run %100 either without the system shutting down. I really hope my CPU isn't just a bad bin. I really want to reduce temps...not sure where else to go from here.

Not factoring in price, since you can simply enable PBO on the non-X chips to get X level performance, are there any good arguments for having a 7900X over a 7900?

  • @fade2black001
    @fade2black001 9 місяців тому

I managed to get my 7900x down to 65w max power and under 60c under full load. Under full load it only hits 55W only for a very minimal performance loss. I didn't do what this guy said to do in the video as this puts you at 105w for the 7900x.

    TDC (80 - 180)
    EDC (113 - 250)
Does this mean I should enter (for the 7950X):

Why do you have to set 140000 for 105W and 88000 for 65W? I tried 140000 in my Gigabyte Aorus AX BIOS for 7900X and when I ran Cinebench I saw 140W power usage. Which is what you expect when you put in 140W as the socket power. Am I missing something? How did you get from 105 to 140?

    • @daygeckoarthawaii1360

I set 88000 on my 7900X and I'm now seeing 90 watts usage in Cinebench. Which, again, is what you'd expect. Why does this video and every website on this topic list numbers that don't make sense? What settings should I use to get the 65W Eco Mode that Ryzen Master lets you do?
