- As of 1/24/2014 all DD50 powered Neoplan's in Pittsburgh are retired. This is a video tribute to the late 1990's 40ft and 60ft Neoplans operated by Port Authority in Pittsburgh, PA. All of these buses feature a Detroit Diesel Series 50 engine and either an Allison B400R or B500R transmission. These buses follow the demise of PAT's former Neoplan AN440's with Detroit Diesel 6v92ta engines.
Note: PAT's 2005/06 Neoplan AN460's and 2000 Neoplan Metroliner's with DD60 will still be around (though the Metroliner's are next to be retired).
Not only Pittsburgh Neoplan are gone soon, but Philadelphia's SEPTA Neoplan buses are going to be history soon. Great video tribute!
I'd just like to go on record and say these Neoplan buses are still running around in Pittsburgh in 2016 as of this date. Mainly they're used for the P1 and P2 buses. So these old boys are still around
+B. D. The 3100's have Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines and are newer (built in 2005) than the ones featured in this video.
Some AN460s used the Series 60 Detroit Diesel. It's the same as the Series 50 but with two more cylinders (for a displacement of 12.7 liters).
As of this comment, there are a total of 4 Neoplan buses left in the city's system: 3103, 3122, 3123, and 3124. All 2005 Neoplan AN460s, the last batch that Neoplan ever made.
Those were to add to the fleet. PAT will be getting another order of D60LFR's to replace the Metroliner's and I guess the AN460's.
Port authority operates Neoplan artics and Neoplan Metroliner's with DD60's. They aren't being retired yet.
they are down to 5 2 out of 5 run 3 out of 5 are operational
@TheLegendary754 Yeah downtown Pittsburgh is a free fare zone until 7pm, so you can board at the back door.
How did PAT do it? How did they maintain these Neoplans, despite Neoplan USA no longer existing. METRO just beat their Neoplans down. Well First Transit did anyway. No Neoplans other than the Neoplan AN345s that we had lasted longer than 12 years, yet these are on their 14th and ending service on their 15th. METRO got rid of the Neoplans quick, fast, and in a hurry. I thank you very much for this. It shows that although I will never ride a Neoplan in Houston again, others can still enjoy them.
Does PAT still have a zone fare structure. I recall getting on the back door and paying when I got off. Been gone since 1983
sound very similar to the 1996 Gilligs we had down here in Broward County years ago.
I lived in Pittsburgh from birth in 1967until 2002. So retirement of the Metroliners will mean that PAAC will no longer have any buses I would have ridden on.
So sad that I never got to ride the 3000s - sigh!
Aren't their replacements, the New Flyer D60LFR, already in service? The order of 61 units? PAT doesn't go by age? The artics in Houston never lasted over 13 years and many were retired at 350,000 miles or less.
Come to Pittsburgh, some will be around for a while longer.
Think they can go that long? You are talking about the 1998 units, right?
these neoplan articulate 30 series still have like 1 or 2 years before they retire
do you thing you can make a Pittsburgh bus video about the gillig adventages.
Apparently the Neo artics have low milage on them, so perhaps a few might.
NJ Transit Neoplans are new compare to San Francisco MUNI, SEPTA, PAT, WMATA and etc. check our Neoplans out it has a zf transmission on it. TTMG.org has bus videos and audio
I don't think you've got my other message. would you like to make a port authority bus group.
I loved those buses. Ran great, and were really comfortable. These new Gilligs and New Flyers are rubbish, ride terribly.
Neoplans were built in Colorado
no that is retired
You can.
did they get on at the back door? WTH O.o ??? get arrested for that here LOL
I could.
