This is the most gentle, adorable anime i've ever watched. I've never felt so touched and enthralled by an anime's story. It was a pleasure to get to experience such a story.
All I can say is... WOW. This amv alone gave me goosebumps and made me watch this anime, and I have to say it was one of the best that I've ever seen. :)

0.o i've only watched the anime... why would they do that with their relationship? and what do you mean not blood related. she's his grandpa's child. she's his aunt, despite the age difference.
neurok666 Actually if you read the manga they reveal that the girl is not related to the old man in the least. However he was the only responsible adult around her so he took her in.
It could have been handled better. If they'd played out the time skip and explained what caused his change of heart I could have accepted it. Though I understand why people wouldn't like it.

(*SPOILER*) The anime was absolutely beautiful, and heart-warming. The manga, on the other hand, was not. I mean, Daikichi RAISED her, and she ends up falling in love with him? It's odd, even for Japan. I mean, he was pretty much her dad, and they had such a good father-daughter vibes, it gave you smiles. For those who absolutely LOVED the anime for it's heart-warming sense, I suggest you don't read the manga. It'll ruin it.
Yeah, the ending in the manga is messed up. No way would any adult who raised and took care of child all the way to adulthood,would be okay hearing that.They would have said that we might not be blood-related but we are still family. Like you see in movies or tv shows where the child finds out that they are not related to the one(s) taking care of them.
no, think about it clearly he is the only one who ever cared for her, she might have a friend who could be her bf, but her feelings for him were no returned as there where with her caretaker.
+Rolando Delgado The whole message the author was trying to get across is that love is love. Neither age difference nor current relationship status matters when it comes to true love. Great anime. Manga gets a bit too Freudian for my tastes tho... Like, dude... Putting aside the fact that he literally raised her like she was his own, let's not forget that she's technically his blood related aunt. Firstly, I agree it's weird. Secondly, I am fairly sure she isn't his Aunt, it is later revealed in the manga. Gramps only acted as Rin's father for her mother's sake.

Isn't the aunt supposed to be older, though?
Aunt = Sister of father.
Also, how old is the guy's grandfather, then?! I'd say he's about 40 y/o?
