No plenty of people love the song! It's the initial shock at the beginning where people are unsure what to think. This song for me brings elements of fado, funk, gamelan, catholic/monastic sounds, voguing, interpretative dance. I LOVE IT but it's a LOT to take in for some people. This entry is a definite grower

No, he doesn’t create his music. His software does. He buys the loops from producerloops .com (search for Arabic trap), and then the software puts it together. It’s like buying a frozen pizza and putting it in the microwave and then saying you cook your own food.

The principal instrumental on the beat is from Angola (África) is called “marimba”. And he mixed Kuduro style of beat and dance with orienta and occidental style.

This is a song that you have to hear more than once to feel addicted to it. "Telemóveis" is a metaphor for "heart", if you change the lyrics, you will see that it matches perfectly: Conan just break his "heart/Telemóveis" trying to call to someone that is not here anymore. The whole staging is about him dealing with the fact that he cannot actually call to someone who has passed away. I hope I helped you. 🇵🇹 📱

To the lady in the video that said it does not sound Portuguese singing but rather North African the matrix of Conan's singing is FADO: a musicality and way of singing unique to Portugal considered intangible heritage of humanity. Conan mixes fado with other influences, such as gipsy and Maghrebine in his music besides electronic of course. You may not like it as many don't but speak without knowledge saying it is not Portuguese singing.
This song is about the power of technology of the cell phone and, the power they have in our life but, when we're longing so much for someone, who died and, we want the cell phone to call to heaven and kill the longing /saudade... the cell phone, it's not useful.
So, an object so powerful, that we use almost for everything in our daily life, has no use when you are longing for someone, who died and is in heaven.
All the dancer's movement, it represents the struggle of feelings the singer has, in his fight to kill that longing /pain /missing.
So, at the end, he kills it with an arrow, and life goes on.
There are lots of metaphors in the song and, fado, African, Arab, Indian, Japanese influences.
After all, Portugal has all this influences as an ancestry (900 years) country. And we also left ours!

i know a lot of people are going to find it weird, but it's the kinda weird that grabs your attention wether it's good or bad. honestly even if he doesn't make it i'm proud of this because it's smth completly different from all those pop songs that we're used to in eurovision
You can't simply translate the lyrics... there's a meaning, a message behind the lyrics and that's why most people don't get it and that's also why he has that "spiritual" look and clothes.
It's about life & death, about breaking your phone in despair for trying to "reach" a connection to the sky to someone you lost, and a social message about our nowadays lifestyle for society being so connected to phones and disconnected from the real world you know.
Its so sumerian and egiptian...its fado, arabic, african and brasilian. And talks about the comunication nowadays...so amazing so simple...

Yes, Arne thanks for recognizing the Balinese familiarity (Indonesian really, but whatever), to be fair we have a lot of influence from other civilizations and contries so it could be rooted from Portugal, who knows. History is hard, I fell asleep every time 😅. Anyway, this song is good, I like it. The performance is just super cool, the beat is good, the song is not really for me but the whole package is very enjoyable.

In my simple opinion and lay on the requirements of the contest in question (Eurovision), Conan Osiris built a dream. A dream that shared with the world. And made that dream come true for Humanity. HUMANITY vs. TECNOLOGY.
So funny to see the different reactions... 'cause the song is just that: ultra different and the more you listen to it, the more it gets addictive, you travel strangely throughout the world in 3 minutes( by the way, Katie, you are not 20 anymore, try to avoid words like "crap" to define a song you dislike, take some lessons with Terje)

I just get annoyed at people who hate this from the jump with the simple premisse that this is just weird for the sake of views when it is different for the simple fact that the artist itself makes this kind of music. He will go far in this competition.

I think it takes a few listens to get into this one, or at least it did for me, at first I was like ?????????? and now I really like it, it's not my winner but it deserves to do well, and good on Portugal for sending something original!
Exactly that! That was my first listen and now I love the bits where Conan is singing. I also love all the different songs this year, even if they’re not my personal favourites.
No one else on the planet is putting up beats and a show like this dude!!!!

I feel that if he gets really far in, he might have a really good shot at winning. The song, at least for me, needs to be listened more than once to be appreciated. With a better staging, Portugal has a really good shot at winning.

Music could be art for unobvious ways. Music doesn't belong just to someone or to a specific time or place. Music doesn't belong to a specific way of making music. Music doesn't belong even to itself. Music is art and art could be everything we can imagine or much more than we can imagine. That's why music can touch the sky, the stars and our souls at the same time and that's why this music is so incredible good.
Of course it's easier to understand the lyrics and all the meaning by the Portuguese people. In the last five centuries we crossed the entire world. We were just a small country but nowadays the Portuguese is one of the most spoken languages in the world. That's why our culture is not just an European culture but is much more than that. We are from Portugal, Brasil, Angola, Mozambique, Macau, Ceuta, Nagasaki, East Timor, Cabo Verde, São Tomé e Principe, Goa, Madeira, Azores, etc.
Telemóveis, the music, make us, the Portuguese and everybody who speaks Portuguese, fell our entire history and, at the same time, force us to look strait to the future...as brothers. And all these in just three minutes. It's a masterpiece.

I don't know if it was explained before in the comments but this type of music is a mix between portuguese Fado, latin gypsy music and modern music. That is why it sounds so unique. Personally, I'm not a fan of Conan Osiris, but usually his songs are this catchy for this reason.

It's the kind of music that will sound strange the first time you hear it, but after you listen to it 3 times, you fel completely addicted to it. The complexe good music is like that, your ears have to adapt to new sounds, new mixes.
Everything in Conan have a meaning. Even the song. Bells in the beginning is to connect Portugal history with China, the African beat is to connect Portugal with Africa and Brazil, Middle east influence is to connect Portugal with Berber Invasion, the south asia sound is to connect Portugal with India. The way he sings, he morphs fado with flamenco, to connect Portugal with Spain. The mask represents Egyptian God Osiris representing the rebirth... the arrow claws is to represent some parts of the lyrics and same time some tradition Thai dances. His suit is a traditional suit of the north that is very use in Carnaval by caretos. Is to represent Celtic influences in Portugal. Obvious that people need to know history of Portugal to see this meanings in Conan song and staging.
I understand that some people don't like it, but, just becouse you could understand the performance dosen't mean it's crap! It's your mind that needs to open and grow, not the song. I hope they win. It's amazing and unique. Go Portugal

But I'm proud of the point this guy is making showing his project origins, cultural influences and street dance and even of the risk our country is taking. This guy probably won't win, but he's giving people something to talk about and placing everybody's eyes on our otherwise forgetful country. No matter what happens, this is our boy. Go get'em, Conan!

This is perfect for 2 reasons. If I close my eyes I'm automatically transported to Portugal and Portuguese heritage roots in the sounds. The visuals are obviously polarising because it's Eurovision. Not to mention the incredible deep lyrics mixed in the middle with something so banal as cellphones as a metaphor. Probably my favourite entry from my country.
Hmm, 'Katie UK' he doesn't say he kills himself in the song, he says he shot an arrow at his feeling of 'saudade'.

I am glad that Portugal are doing something different. They needed to break free from the stereotype of only doing balads. Here they show some originality. It is difinitely going to be polorizing.
The portuguese song represents art in all senses, it's a daring and completely different song from what Eurovision is used to. It's a vibrating refined mix of several types of world popular music that still looks very modern. Once again Portugal wasn't affraid to do different. And let's not forget that Portugal is the only country that always had songs in it's own language.conan's song is about life and death; something like breaking your cellphone in despair, trying to connect to the sky (to connect with someone you lost physically or not); and it's also social criticism to our modern life for being so connected to mobile phones and disconnected from life; the sneakers are a contrast to the gold osiris mask (past and future, spirituality and materialism); even the song has a contrast between tradition and modernity." THE SOUNDS. Portugal was prominent in the Age of Discovery. The sounds were mix of the cultures we visited. Asia and Africa. The Middle Eastern sound can be seen in our Fado which is the sound hes using. Before Portugal and Spain split from Hispania we were under the rule of the Muslim Caliphate of the Umayyad Empire. Whoever sees this will learn to apperceite it more.

No way. Nothing so different all the way. Salvador, brought up within the music elite, super rich family. Conan, brought up in the big areas in the outskirts of Lisbon, makes everything by himself, lyrics, music, production, works at home with a mobile phone, a synthesizer and PC. Conan's the reality man, Salvador's the romantic bloke.
Conan's got the wild creativity and random easiness to it, he's a natural.
That guy from Belgium trying to shit talk on Portugal’s entry, has he heard Belgium’s entry this year? Sucks, no seriously, it does, too cliché. And a lot of the other songs on Eurovision indeed are full of effects in the background, many more people on stage, if Eurovision is all about that and not about unique people/music, voice and raw stage performance, then Eurovision sucks completely! I do have to say that UK, Russia, Spain & Portugal are my favorites this year, I am Portuguese, living in Belgium but I do hope Spain or UK win this year, I do of course want Portugal to hit the top, but I know most people do not like different stuff, and the Portuguese entry is by far super unique!!!

I LOOOOOVE this one. Might be a little biased cause Portuguese roots but ok. I love how different it is and I wish I could be the dancer. Oh and Arne, vroeger was een deel van Indonesie in de handen van Portugal :) Ik denk vandaar ook dat het zo hetzelfde klinkt. Mijn opa kwam toevallig uit een Portugees deel uit Indonesie, en de talen hebben ook veel gelijkenissen :D!
