I love how carefully and correctly your words are selected and put in order to explain difficult concepts in an easy way!! Could you also please explain in a separate video what Brillouin zone is?
I don't understand where these "splits" (4:26) come from or what it means for orbitals to "split energies" (2:03). Same thing with: "When the 1s and 2p orbitals overlap, they both separate into two energy quantum states". Anyone? Thanks in advance.
wow , it was marvelous , i was unable to find any good video on this topic, and i also love the way he taught in very short manner ,keep it up man , may god be with you
BIG thanks! I've been wanting to learn about band theory for a while, and never imagined to get such a thought out explanation as this one. This answers so many questions, and raises other - I love it! I'm certain this is gonna help me whenever we encounter band theory in class. So yeah, good job and thanks :)
+Antoine Gremaud If anyone is interested in electronics the greatest results that ive had was by following the Gregs Electro Blog (just google it) definately the most useful course that I have ever tried.
dude you are interesting teacher! students learn faster and they want to learn electron theory! this is what i want from my teacher i mean the way how you teach :)
well actually it should be the other way around [the width is set by the overlap between nearby orbitals and orbitals deep in the well are more localized]
great lecture, just one question.. isn't the number of atomic orbitals supposed to be equal to the number of molecular orbitals? it seems as if for the case of the 1s and 2p the two orbitals you mentioned in your example you designed four.. or are those just the electrons? in that case shouldn't the energy of the lowest 1s electron and 2p electron be equal?
Question 1: You said something about Heisenberg uncertainty principle that it reduced energy and made the molecule stable..can u explain that how? Question 2:If the electrons in metal gain external energy,it overcome potential barrier & fermi level and take part in conduction.then why metal becomes superconductors at near absolute zero temp as there is no external energy given at low temp?? Pls clarify my doubts
sir thank you for the video but can you please descride how this band theory explains the electrical conductivity , thermal conductivity and lustre of a metal
+chris s BTW awesome explanation. Really cleared it up for me Question though: in the graphs what type of energy is on the y axis (potential or kinetic)?
Sir but when the atoms approach each other I think would have a band of energy levels in 2p and 1s orbitals because at different positions of the orbital the electron would have different energies due to different distances from the atom.Pls clarify my doubt
Hello AK, for a college class 12 project i used your set of videos on electron band theory for a portion of my research into the science behind semiconductors i made chemically. How would I reference your videos? Thanks
Nice vid and effort! It seems you have been thinking a bit about how to present, and put a lot of effort into clear speech. If I may be so bold, I would suggest putting in a few pauses to underline specific points you make in the presentation, just to let the audience take in the material. This is usually why students prefer a lecturer to write on the blackboard, otherwise it is simply going too fast for most people. In a video presentation this is not really a problem of course, as you can pause. Also adding a few physical elements might make your presentations a bit more lively. For example, Professor Walter Lewin is an expert at this kind of "entertainment" for his audience, and his video's hits on-line reflects this. It makes the presentation and topic more memorable. I only give you my feedback on this because you seem to want to go somewhere with presenting/teaching. So anyway, great video, and thank you!
Hey, I did some research on this topic recently. I found that MO theory is related to the EB theory. When an orbital splits into two orbitals (according to the EB theory) , one of them is called bonding orbital and another one is called non-bonding orbital (according to the MO theory)
In addition there should be additional banding as the xrays are refracted off the deeper wells up too the fermi level. Is this a correct assumption? Just curious.
your way of speaking i so hypnotic and your lectures are so easy to understand! Thank you from Italy!

Thanks for the explanation! very helpful.
dude you are interesting teacher! students learn faster and they want to learn electron theory! this is what i want from my teacher i mean the way how you teach :)
juho kaskisola thanks!! glad to hear that :)
Do a video on organic semiconductors. I'd love to see your take on this concept.
Wow. This is damn good especially bc i can write it all down, then listen, then annotate.
Ty sir...it helped alot to undrstand
thank you
I appreciate your videos
thanks for clearing my concept
+SAHIL GUPTA Yhi to difference hai , !!!
kya?
This is great 👍
Are the electrons with energies close to the Fermi energy (and therefore able to escape) the valence electrons?
Thanks for the video
why are the bands deeper in the well more wider in energy?
well actually it should be the other way around [the width is set by the overlap between nearby orbitals and orbitals deep in the well are more localized]

Where can I find more information on why the 1s and 2p orbitals split when in close proximity? Cheers
sir thank you for the video but can you please descride how this band theory explains the electrical conductivity , thermal conductivity and lustre of a metal
OH my contrast! the video feed is so bright
+chris s BTW awesome explanation. Really cleared it up for me
Question though: in the graphs what type of energy is on the y axis (potential or kinetic)?
Can u give an explanation about brillouin zones and reason for bragg diffraction
Great video
Great explanation, thanks a lot :)

Hii , Nice and Accurate lecture :)

finite :-)
Why do these bands start splitting again if we reduce the distance between atoms even more?
great video !
Hey sir, is this related to the molecular orbital theory in chemistry?
youssef refaat yes i do believe so
Hey, I did some research on this topic recently. I found that MO theory is related to the EB theory. When an orbital splits into two orbitals (according to the EB theory) , one of them is called bonding orbital and another one is called non-bonding orbital (according to the MO theory)
Thanks for coming back to explain that. :)
is this aplicable to
compound semiconductors
Thanks sir I teach awesome
Thanks for the vid!
1s it could be hydrogen or helium . and 2s boron to neon right
the graph on the left side is wrong instead it should be drawn as a mirror image as distance increases then overlapping decreases
great vid, thanks
Very Nice...
If my interpretation is correct in a metal crystal an xray should start to bend around the deeper wells of the individual atom.
In addition there should be additional banding as the xrays are refracted off the deeper wells up too the fermi level. Is this a correct assumption? Just curious.
Excellent ... Thanks :-)
7:16 Arrival of the cops at his place !! xD
Keep going on
nice video !!!
Thanks sir
SOME HELP PLIZZ.....what is the 2p and 1s he is talking about
Thank you!
Allison Arabelo You're welcome Alison!
why does this split occur?
thank you bro
Thank you
didn't the p orbital should be bow tie shaped huh ?
Thanks so nice
Wow thanks man
very nice.
