Walter Röhrl needs to see it and drive it! I think he would know about this project from social media/friends. And reunion of Walter (who really tested original prototype) and chance to drive it once more would give you/us feedback how close is it to original prototype. Fantastic project guys!
Oh, Hannu Mikkola.. what a humble and sincere gentleman he was! Friendly to everyone and open to teachbeveryone and himself. He was the first one who understood how to drive 4wd rallycar and helped with it for everyone back then. He could be very interested to touch this project again.. ahhh...

What an honour it has truly been to film & edit this series. The time has flown by & I'm absolutely in awe at how stunning Grumpy looks in the flesh. What an incredible achievement this is Dave & I hope we can collaborate on more projects in the future. This is the most epic build ever & my love for rally has been multiplied after being a part of this incredible journey. ❤ Very very well done mate!
What a great job you did of documenting this!! Although the project never got as in depth as Project Binky, it did keep a pretty swift pace while at the same time going over some of the build details up close. The wiring episode comes to mind!! Hope you guys get to collab again on another project because this has been fab!!
Tank you man.. we really can not tank you enough.. this is the coolest independent / private project series on the planet because of the original sad end back-story.. I really wish or hope somehow to see W.Rohrl reaction if would ever see this project car because is so crazy even for him would mean more than we think..
I can't express how much I would have liked to have seen this model in rally sport back then. What a pity that it didn't happen. Thank you very much for reviving this "prototype" and taking on the efforts! ❤
For 40 years this car has been a unicorn only seen on grainy spyshots. I dreamt of one being found in existence, somehow eluding their ordered destruction. Maybe hidden away by Gumpert in defiance of the orders of Piech. To see this car now made real is awesome. The level of detail and quality of the build is off the chart. Would you dare run this in anger with a current WRC star at the wheel in a comparison test with a peugeot T16, Lancia S4, Ford RS200 and Metro 6R4 to see how it might have stacked up. I know it has modern components but it would be genuinely fascinating. Could it have won the 1987 Group B season if it had happened? I bet a lot of fans would love to know. Either way its an absolutely fantastic achievement to build this car.
My old boss said to me once (you can never have enough details while explaining or creating) to show the depth of your thoughts and skills. It be nice to have a full spec list etc. You talk people will listen especially me. Epic build.
Finished, but hopefully not the end to a great video series! Well done to the team at EPS Motorsport for (re)creating this amazing machine and a big thank you too for those making the videos allowing us from a distance to follow this project
David, you have created, not copied, but build something truly unique and fantastic. Clearly the partners you chose are at the top of there game too, and it’s a fantastic achievement you should all be very proud of. It really is world class in every respect
All this from a toy car and a couple of pictures and drawings. This is a beautiful project of bringing back the past. Cheers from old audis nut from Canada.
Thank you! Your work here is very inspirational. I'm late to the game, having only discovered your RS 001 build in the ACNA news letter this morning. I'll stay tuned!
Congratulations Dave! What an achievement. As others have said, it would be great to expose "Grumpy" to some of the team associated with the original prototype, such as Roland Gumpert & Walter Rohrl.
Had no idea this unicorn existed until I went to the Audi Museum in Ingolstadt and saw the 1/43 scale model. Fantastic build, sir. Really spectacular work. Don't be surprised if Audi comes calling to display your car at events.
what about bringing them to audi sport HQ and put this monster sitting side by side with factory audi rally car line-up... and probably some "shakedown" run there? just a suggestion really... but im really stoke to see this monster put at work regardless... cheers..and big congrats for the build...
@@EPSDaveRowe I`m sure Audi Tradition would really like to see the car. A comparison side by side with their mid engine prototype would be very cool. Many german UA-camrs were invited from Timo Witt (Audi Tradition) to visit their holy garage with all their racing cars.

This is an absolutely incredible build. The insane level of tenacity, resourcefulness, and skill it took to design... let alone _complete_- is something I hope to one day achieve. Well done to Dave and the team at EPS, looking forward to seeing this thing in action!!
I Loved following the build of this car and the end result is awesome, can not wait to follow its progress , Very well done Dave and hope you enjoy driving it as much as building it.
Grumpy's looking bloody awesome fella, looking forward to hearing your thoughts after you've driven him!!! Loved hearing your gonna be involved with project WaSaabi at Retropower as well... 👍
"Never finished" Agreed 100% Seven years in on our little monster and I doubt it has turned up to the track more than three times in the same spec, there's a HUGE list of "one day" changes but most of them are waiting for a Lotto win now LOL!! Good stuff! Looking forward to seeing it running - Goodwood hillclimb?
Such a load of tremendously great work! It is absolutely stunning! Cant wait till i can see it someday somewhere! I built my own 1/43 version of it few couple years ago...
What an unbelievable build I've been following along with the build the amount of work and detail that's gone into it is crazy. Now it's time to enjoy it so health to enjoy it and many amazing miles in it.
im greatful it is finally done. You mentioned in one of your earlier videos you are going to take it to Pikes Peak, I hope to see you there with the car next year. What a monster of a car!
I've always been aware of the prototype of this car as I was born in 1977 and grew up watching the Quattro rally cars. For me this is a total dream build which I'd love to get some footage of in thr future. Enjoy your dream come reality as much as humanly possible 👌🏻
An epic build, one that I hope you guys get to enjoy for years to come. Also great to hear that you will display the car at Retropower for all to see. Congratulations on finishing the car 👌
That is one Beautiful car, I've always wanted a replica but can't seem to get one in Australia. I had a big picture of I believe Michèle Mouton car and I also had the Peugeot 205 turbo 16 and they were my dream cars. I didn't realise that it was mid engine , my hats off to you sir . well done
Very cool project. Please come to the Eifel Rallye Festival in the Eifel 2025. Your Audi would fit in very well. Walter Röhrl has also been there several times - it's a very nice event for historic rally cars. And the Nürburgring is just around the corner

Also very happy with your decision to use it on tarmac... 😉 And my most loved little detail/spec is still on the car: the little dino on the left rear corner... ✌🏻💋 Dave, if you're ever in the need of "storage space" (just in case...), I'll so happy open up widely my garage door...😁 😅
Nice. Pat on the back fella. Well done. A lot of the world really appreciates you. I know it's yours but please, don't wear it down too much. Hill climb well within yourself, no race drivers allowed as they remove their brains just before driving. Nice again.
What a beautiful end result!!! 🔥 slightly sad for us that the build is over. I'm hoping for many videos to see the car used for what it is intended for and of what it is capable! Compare to the original front engine layout. 💪 You should be really proud of you're achievement and would be nice to see you get some credits from the rally community. In my humble opinion you're already a legend for making this one off tribute mate!! Enjoy the car, cause the fun bit is about to start for you. 🎉 I wish you many save kilometers on the stages Dave!!!

No doubt this is an epic build and car... truly well done however, I do have some criticism... not bad, maybe good even. The wheels need to be wider, fit the wheel arches... give it that menacing stance. I believe this would finish off this work of ART. Again, brilliant work.
Dude, it's all about these cars (Audi quattro 5 pot) all variants . But you have taken building to a different level. When I do a car I am coming there, it will be money well spent however much you want.
