- The Trans Euro Trail is some 53,000 kms of mapped trails and roads across the European continent. In this video Billys Bike Adventures shares his and his mates journey as they ride across the French trail in the Pyrenees. We are both riding KTM 690 Enduro R with my bike installed with Rally Raid kit. See how we get on and later in the video see how not to ride bumpy trails when I find one track that looks harmless a bit of a challenge.

Fantastic video..thx... I was about to mention the music but many have just the sound of the bike is perfect for me.n1
Hi Greg. Thanks! Lesson learnt on the music front :-) Ride safe. Billy
When reality VS expectations hits you in the face :)
Uphill is always great to maintain OR increase speed regardless of how hard it looks.
Speeding up eases the bike get over obstacles.
Great adventure there!
Hi Garcya. Thanks for watching and you comments. So true, was a real eye opener on fitness and skill level which btw was very low :-) Enjoyed every minute of it even the rough stuff. Whilst I was conscious of the need for speed up hill, I w also conscious of not damaging the bike and being stuck in a location that may have been challenging to get out of. Going to do more TET next summer in the UK and build up my experience. Stay safe. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures gym time and general fitness cannot be over stated when riding off road, i am ex MX racer, national downhill mtb racer, i ride a 510 exc 10 hours a day on badass terrain easily and i am 47- get yourself strong legs from cycling or stepper machines/squats etc, build a strong core (vital and often forgotten by bikers is the core/gut area) and shoulders, plenty of bike time is important and let the legs and core do ALL the work - shoulder and arm strength is last resort - your riding will jump in leaps if you are physically capable because fatigue or lack of strength basically equates to shit technique and accidents, or plain bad uncomfy and often riding on luck - enjoy - thanks for the tour , still riding the 690?
@@BillysBikeAdventures this is old video now but i would also say get a day here and there at a good school, you will learn a lot - that or watch loads of technique vids and spend time on a trail you know looping up and down and simply practising stuff , it may sound tedious but long term it makes great sense
Epic video
Thanks Leigh. Appreciate the comment 👍🏼. Ride safe 👍🏼
Amazing gear and bikes!
Thanks! It was a great trip! 👍🏼👏
@@BillysBikeAdventures Thanks for your reply. Just bought a CRF450l instead of a KTM 690 to do the same kind of adventure riding as in the video. I like the weight of the Honda better and I don't really need to power of the KTM. Don't be fooled by the official 25hp rating of the Honda... Everyone is getting it derestricted and then it's about 42-45 hp. Cheers!
The CRF 450 is a much better bike for it. There were sections of the TET France that the KTM was too heavy for, so good choice 👍🏼. Enjoy. Ride safe Billy
Nice ride! Thanks for adding my music :)
Hi. Great music, perfect for my channel. Hope the reference in the description was correct. Look forward to using more in the future 👍🏼👍🏼
@@BillysBikeAdventures Thanks! Yeah, the reference in description is perfect. Feel free to use more :)
i leave near PAU in the Atlantics Pyrénées, and i'll do this part of the TET this year, nice vidéo !!!!!
Thanks Trash Coyote! Lucky you living where you do! Hope you have a great ride on the TET. When are you doing it ? Let me know how you go👍🏼
Hello Billys Bike , i think i’ll do it This summer. I will put some vidéo on my UA-cam channel (Trash coyote)✌️✌️✌️
Great effort with the vid. Shame about the .music though.
Thanks. You’re not alone in those comments. Point taken for next time 👍🏼
Ha ha I know. What was I thinking. Thanks for you comment and watching the video. Music lesson learnt 👍🏼 stay safe. Billy
Cool bike. I like you’re style of video. Thanks for sharing. I’m a beginner to all this shitzel and I think this could be a nice starter TET for me and my Xt660z.
Thanks Charlie! Yes the bike is awesome. Some straight forward easy sections but there were sections that were much more challenging. My mate and I did around 70-75 miles per day when just on track. Let me know how you go. Ride safe. Billy
hi I did the TET section 9 and 6 alone with my T 700 Teneré ... and frankly there are difficult or even dangerous passages, especially in the mountain a very narrow, long and stony part overlooking a ravine on the right side, I haven't seen it in your video.
even though I did it alone, I recommend against it for security reasons.
I wish a good recovery for your friend's injury.
See you soon
HI atprod. Thanks for your message! Having done this now I would totally agree with you not to ride the TET on your own. Was glad to have a mate there with me despite the fact that the TET was cut short for us with the accident he had. He recovered well after about 6 weeks in a medical boot. It has put him off doing more things like this though so I need a new TET riding buddy now. Ride safe. Billy
All the gear no idea lol I actually liked the music.
Thanks Owain. Falling off part of learning, your the first one to ‘like’ the music. Cheers 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video Billy, just ridden TET France & Then across from Carcosone to Bilbao it was epic, could have done with a 690
Thanks Tim! Great fun. Really glad to have done it, or as much as we could have until it was cut short with my mates broken ankle. What were you riding?
Hi Billy, would you recommend the 690 for that kind (TET+getting there) of riding? I am considering getting the 690 enduro R, as my current bike is +230kg (F850GS), nice for road riding but picking it up won't be fun on the TET. I have enduro background, so I appreciate everything is a compromise.
Hi Ray. Thanks for your question. If you have enduro background then yes you will be ok with the 690. My lack of enduro experience made it more challenging but you should have no bother with you back ground. When and which section/s? Cheers. Billy 👍🏼
Thanks for your reply Billy. I’m across the pond (IRL) from you guys and it’s a little difficult to plan dates/location. Plan was to do some UK TET and RallyBook events, but maybe a EU TET could be a good option. I’m in research mode, so any advice is welcome. I pack light and have good gear so it is time to get out there.
Also look at the Husky 701. Slightly better stats on ground clearance, suspension travel. A bit cheaper too! Good luck with it all & fingers crossed 🤞 we can all get out there soon 👍🏼. Ride safe. Billy
Love the bikes, I’m just debating whether to ride that section across to Bilbao or Across the Spanish Pyrenees section
Whichever you do you won’t be disappointed. Not sure what your skill level is but what you don’t get from the TET site is just how challenging some of the sections are. First few days we achieved about 65 miles / day, we were complete novices though. Hope you enjoy 👍🏼
Billys Bike Adventures thanks
wayyyyy off ya go!
Only just watched to the end now! Sorry to hear that, but I guess that's what can happen!
Just be grateful it wasn't worse eh! I hope ya mate has a swift recovery!
Thanks. Was a shame to cut the trip short but at least it wasn’t worse. Still had a top time 👍🏼👍🏼
Not even an impressive off 😂
@@BillysBikeAdventures just say to people you got attacked by a shark!
Great vid fellas! Doing similar trip in reverse next year. Just wondering, is it a garmin montana on the left bar? If so what SD card did you use for European maps or did you use the base map? Happy riding.
Hey mate. Thanks for watching and your comments. Yes a Montana but was not very good. Touch screen stopped working half way through so had to rely on phone. Just used a regular memory card with it. nothing special about it. 64gb i think it was. More than enough. Good luck with your trip when you do it! Cheers. Billy
way too much luggage, but the track seems great. Good fun, though!
Ha ha. My mate had a bit more than me lol. Was great fun great experience. Ride safe. Billy 👍🏼
“My ass is killing me” Death by ass! I know the feeling
I think most of us do 😂😂😂😂😂
@@BillysBikeAdventures If you were going to do the TET again what bike would you choose. I don’t think
I’ll be using my GS or my DR650se . Cheers
Hi Brian. Really good question. Probably T7, KTM 690 Endur R, husky 701 (better ground clearance, longer suspension travel). If more local the probably a KTM / Honda in the 300 -450cc range
It does look like a rookie mistake that fall. Have you spent time doing slow stand up figure of 8's and all the various other slow techniques to build up your balance skills? I spent a good amount of time following other enduro training channels and they give you some amazing insight into bike control and building a solid skill foundation to improve upon.
Hi David. Thanks for your msg. I had not completed those types of practice exercises. Will be sure to make a point of doing that to improve balance 👍🏼
@@BillysBikeAdventures You will notice a big improvement in a very short space of time. You will also realise the bad habits you have developed and be able to correct them.
Cool to watch. What is your bodyweight and what is the weight of everything you carry?
Thanks for watching. Body weight at that time (its gone up a little since then) was about 90kgs. Weight of kit about 8-10kgs. Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures Thanks. I'm asking since a lot of people talk a lot about the weight of the bike. A 150 kg bike is 25 % less than a 200 kg bike. However, including 100 kg (man and kit) the difference is only 17 %. And with heavier man and kit the difference becomes even less. Just a though, as I'm trying to decide on the right bike for me.
How do you rate the XCR kit I'm looking at the s20 newer model to your black ones cheers.
Hi Oneg. I really like the kit. Jacket very light and comfortable. Pants / trousers robust and reassuringly tough in the right places. New kit looks great. I would definitely recommend. Stay safe. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures Thanks for the review Billy top guy
Take care mate.
🙂👍
Thanks Jarcco. A really great trip. Ride safe. Billy
Don't be too hard on yourself for dropping it going up that path. That looked really hard and its much harder to get going again after the first fall. You didn't buy a bike like that not to drop it
Thanks Garrett! It was a mix of wanting to ride without incident up the path versus cautious sensible don’t break anything that means calling for help lol. Thanks for your comment and thanks for following the channel. Ride safe 👍🏼
A little CRF 250 rally, on its Second engine trying to make It go bang, to give me a excuse to by another orange rocket
Ha ha, thrashing it in the Pyrenees should do that, but hopefully not when you are too far away from home. Ride safe. Billy
Love the vid but man why the music
Ha ha, you’re not alone, having watched and listened back since out this on, I have to agree it’s awful music deco won’t do next time 👍🏼
That music tho. Watch on mute.
Will be sure to not do that next time 👍🏼
Cool adventure tho!
It was, looking forward to the next one. Cheers. Billy
we all crash 🙂 it's fine so long as we can get up and laugh - learn from them though
Crashing / dropping bikes all part of becoming a better rider as long as well learn from them as you say. Cheers. Billy
It wasn’t rolled it was broke took 6 weeks to recover
Oh yeah. Should have added that in. I guess I was taking more from what had happened at the point without knowing that it was broken
I hope you're back on the road or off road I guess!
Are you two planning on picking it up where you left off this year?
Kind of. We have a trip planned to Croatia in June which I will be updating on as well as a couple of others for me.
Bloody good video. We are thinking of doing it would you have the gpx for it as it would be a great help .my name is kev Saye cheers
Hey Kev. Thanks for watching and great comments! Much appreciated. Apologies for slow reply, I have been in the Pyrenees again this time on my GSA riding some of the brilliant high Pyrenees. The TET track can be downloaded from here transeurotrail.org/
Its the Trans Euro Trail website who put the GPX file together. It is kept up to date with changes so if you download just before you go you will have the most up to date version of the GPX file. You can of course view the route for planning purposes as and when you need to. Enjoy when you get the mate! Ride safe. Cheers. Billy
Great video and bikes, but why the shit music when the bikes sound that good
Hi. Thanks for the feedback. You’re not alone on this topic so will be sure to not do it again. There tends to be more wind noise than bike noise so perhaps less music when only bike is good and when just wind noise something a bit more easy listening 👍🏼
You could cut out 60% of the riding and added more info and explanation. Good effort, but.....
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼
14:30 ))))))
Yes we finally made up the lumpy bumpy trail lol. Thanks for watching 👍🏼👍🏼
What should have been a beautiful documentary is completely destroyed by the loud music.
Regrettably.
Thanks for watching Robert. Sorry the music was not to your liking (or many others actually) appreciate the feedback and hopefully I will not make the same mistake again, but a good learning for me. Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventuresit’s not as bad as he’s making sound (excuse the pun 😂) anyway, great video mate
Thanks for watching and your comment. 👍 🙌 cheers. Billy
whole hand covering clutch and brake is dead give away - stop using arms to ride, they are not there to control a bike, your legs and core are better and way more capable. 1 finger is enough on modern brake and clutch trust me and try it - make it the normal method, stand more, always get on balls of feet and always toes twisted in - this forces knees into tank and allows arms to relax ultimately making the ride more controlled and easier to go fast over stuff - speed when off road is our friend, not our enemy
All really great comments and I have learned to have less fingers on clutch and front brake since this trip. Thanks for watching and all your comments! Cheers. Billy
