  • WLS 890 Chicago - 17th Anniversary - Bob Sirott - May 2 1977 - Radio Aircheck (3/4)
    From the Kenneth Hawkins collection.
The Rock Of Chicago was 89 WLS. It was a pop powerhouse across the midwest.
89 WLS had so many legendary personalities that graced the microphones. Larry Lujack, John Landecker, Dick Biondi, Art Robets, Steve & Garry and The voice heard on this aircheck, Bob Sirott.
Bob started his days on the radio in Chicago at WBBM-FM in the early 1970s, but then he landed a gig at WLS. He spent several years on WLS before moving to TV. He eventually came back to radio, and he took over the morning show at 720 WGN in Chicago.
This recording is from WLS's 17th anniversary as a Top 40 station. You will hear a few voices from WLS history.
Feel free to check out some of the many other videos on the Ellis B Feaster's Radio Channel! Established in 2008!
One of You Tube's oldest RADIO AIRCHECK MUSEUM with a NEW VIDEO posted daily at 3PM EST.
After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of radio airchecks, and many from my friends as well.
You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away. Lots radio recordings from the 1940s, through the 2010.
We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here!
We also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also! Find me on Facebook: / ellisairchecks

I have that picture of West 52nd street. I listened to WLS at night growing up. I’m in South Carolina but could always pick up WLS at night. Great listening.

@@donobrien1850 Thanks Don. I figured sharing all my audio is better than just hiding it in my personal collection.

Clark Weber in 1963 told Me personally that Dick Biondie ( not sure of spelling) got fired from WLS because He was arguing with swear words about too many commercials on His nightly show, when a Nun and Her school class entered the room, and Dick wouldn't shut up so the Program Director took Him by the arm and said You're fired, get out of here! This was in the early 1960's.

Obviously he was in the wrong to do that, but it proved true that the best managers were those who gave their legendary talent a long leash.
These people are few and far between with a special gift, and they are "quarky" as their brains work differently, for the great and the problematic issues, that cannot be forgotten.
