It's 50 years since my first visit to Kathmandu. It was fascinating. Loved it so much. Been back to Nepal 4 times since. Beautiful memories. Kathmandu guest house or freak street were the places to stay. Marihuana was growing around the palace gates. Could have a hash cake made at any little corner shop. I've seen the changes over the years. Not all good.
This is so interesting! I live in Hawaii, travelled all over Europe but it is Kathmandu that I want to see the most. It looks so different from everything that I have seen! Can't wait for visiting Nepal.

Bodhi Utthan it’s all because it’s a lot populated now.. if you go to other places of Nepal where it’s less populated, it’s a lot beautiful there. Try visiting eastern cities, you’ll have fun ;) and also it’s worst in Kathmandu :(
@@bodhiutthan9507 100% agree, go to Kathmandu if you need to take care of anything and hit up the Monkey Temple etc, but move on quickly to Pokhara. Far better time in Pohkara.
i was there in 1969.....it was wonderful...ending up walking out to swayambhunath and renting a room in a nepali farmhouse. the streets were like the middle ages without so many motorcycles, cell phones and modern stuff......very magical place and people

Kathmandu has a lively vibe, it's pretty noisy and looks hectic but is chilled at the same time, the beautiful shrines, food corners, pretty shops and overall relaxed people, what I love is even just wandering around the streets for no reason is very fascinating, as a person who lived in Kathmandu for 10 years and is badly missing the noise and the crowd, I loved how this video captures the raw feeling of the streets and bazaar of Kathmandu. If only the construction work of roads, the huge mess of electric wires and the motorbikes could be managed, Kathmandu would be even more magical.
I feel that the huge mess of electric wires, motorbikes, and construction do add to the vibe somewhat. I love the chaos of wandering around a city like that.
i'm booking my flight today to go to Nepal 1 day after Christmas which will be on the 26th..this will be my 2nd time going there..just love trekking in Nepal..

Brings back my memories of being in Nepal in Nov. 2018....EBC trek. This was a dream of mine since 1971. Unfortunately on the 3rd day of the trek I had a very bad fall injuring my right wrist, arm and shoulder. It had MAJOR swelling. Got to Namche and took a helicopter to Lukla for a trip back to Kathmandu so I could go to the hospital. Nothing like have a life long dream come to a screeming halt . It was like I got kicked in the jaw. It hurts to this day that my dream came up short. Loved what I saw...very eye opening...so beautiful

Very interesting almost melancholy comment. How much the world has changed in not even 2 and a half years practically. I noticed some people wearing masks in the street scenes. But some people wore masks in Nepal for allergies or to protect from pollutants in the air. Little did they know it would soon become the norm.

Kathmandu is one of the oldest/ ancient city at the foothill of Himalayas... It is also called the "City of Temples" - it is the melting point of Hinduism and Buddhism - both have been living side by side peacefully - influencing one another, since many centuries. But it is very over-crowded now, & starting to lose its ancient charm.

I visited Kathmandu in the 80's then again when the horrible earthquake hit. Left after seeing so much of the city sights destroyed. It really was an interesting place to visit. Stayed in a place called the Yak and Yeti. Wonder if it's still there?

I visited Kathmandu in the 80's then again when the horrible earthquake hit. Left after seeing so much of the city sights destroyed. It really was an interesting place to visit. Stayed in a place called the Yak and Yeti. Wonder if it's still there?

I saw a couple of tall modern buildings in this video. When I visited Kathmandu in 1995, I was surprised to note that there were no modern buildings in the capital of Nepal.
