It's official Lexx is the happiest person on the planet, you can't help but smile when you see her reaction to every song
I couldn't have said that better myself.
Shes Minnie the minx with a Minnie the mouse hairstyle. Luv em both.
quite agree:) she make me smile and laugh
All the things everyone else has said, and. As Beautiful as any supermodel..... Living Doll..
She certainly had 'lift off' during this one ;)
With songs like this Lex just becomes joy personified. It’s infectious and great to experience.
Given the level of overalls in the original video, "a farm song" is appropriate Lex.
True, true - I always wondered how they arrived at the whole "Irish hillbilly" premise for the video. And overlaid on council houses in a decaying industrial town. It's strange, but it works. Still love this song, even though it's been played to death since it was a hit.
@@biff9999 Levi cover-alls were in fashion back then.
And the fiddle.
@@biff9999 Kevin , the band leader ,imposed his Irish sensibilities on the band as he was of Irish descent living in an English town.Soul music from America was already a big thing since the early 1960s and teenagers grew up dancing to it in Ireland and England. They mixed in soul influences in their music too.
The band's name was derived from Dexedrine, a brand of dextroamphetamine (speed) used as a recreational drug among Northern english soul fans to give them energy to dance all night.
Dungarees
Lex’s happiness is infectious.
The fiddle is why you think of a farm during this.
That, and the banjo and accordion. That was the thought behind the music ... NOT to sound anything like the Synth-Pop sounds of the 80's.
I hear the banjo as far as farm vibes!
This song couldn't be avoided during the 80s, everyone in Britain knew it off by heart. Most of us ignored the obvious innuendo :)
PS Apparently the line "Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye" Is taken from an old Irish lullaby "Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral" meaning "Goodbye for now. I'll be seeing you"
It’s funny that they had no idea he’s talking about a girl coming of age looking so good in the red dress giving him dirty thoughts. Lol
@@gone2bch I guess it's because the younger generations have been generally more sheltered, so the innuendo isn't recognized?
Ugh. I still can’t get away from it. It’s on the radio all the time. Most overplayed song ever
It was a huge hit in the US as well.
It had it's own vibe; it's own sound... what a great song.
The little violin intro at 0.15 is an Irish tune.
I love how Lex is so happy and giddy and Brad is so serious but taking in and analizing everything.
You guys are adorable.
Seeing Lex dance and laugh all the time with the cutest hairstyle ive ever seen was just... too beautiful for 2021. Thanks!
In The UK, when this song comes in everyone rushes the dance floor. I mean EVERYONE, like your nan who's been in a wheelchair for the last 8 years jumps up and throws down.
Still a great song today
I just danced in my bedroom, love this tune ! 🙏
For some odd reason they do the same in Upstate NY too.
TRUE STORY!✌🏻😬
Lex, you make me smile every time. Brad, you're right-it is a jig LOL Love your reactions!!
is it a jig or a reel?
@@LordEriolTolkien A jig is a 3 count, and a Reel is a 4 count. Same number of beats as the number of letters in the name ;-)
@@Grimtheorist may as well be Dutch. The timing of music (as well as my own sense of rhythm) is my weakest area of music appreciation. I understand your words, but doubt i could hear the difference :/
@@LordEriolTolkien Start where he says "COME on Eileen" and count to 4 along with the beat, then repeat! You can do it!
Lex’s energy and enthusiasm is amazing…Can’t help but smile watching her…
Sometimes folky hits from the UK and Ireland can sound rural US. Bluegrass was derived from folk music from that part of the world and Brad is right when he says it's a jig. Sing along pub music for sure. Cheers!
Yes. You will find a similar folky-Celtic sound in the maritime provinces of Canada where our roots were Scots-Irish. Appalachian peoples were also of Scots-Irish heritage. The banjo was based on an African instrument and bluegrass was a fusion of musical cultures. I love the mixing of cultures on our continent and what it produced.
@@Bittiepb I made guitars for a famous British folk instrument maker for many years, and we exported a lot to U.S Bluegrass musicians in Nth America, (obviously) to Irish & Scottish musicians, and even to their brethren in the Basque Country.
IIRC, Dock Boggs learned a lot from sneaking into African-American camps and copping their gourd/banjo styles.
Scots arriving as indentured soldiers to fight the suthern states on going struggle with the Native Americans is the beck story to the Flag BBC did a realy good look at the cross of Scots and Irixh in one of there history programs on BBC Scotland
@@coynieuk Interesting. Many of the Scotch-Irish (Ulster) immigrants settled in the Appalachian mountain supported Prince William of Orange. They were called hillbillies lol; a term that still exists. Def not a stretch that the folk music would live on
Very fact . Boring, but fact.
Nah... It's a reel. 2/4 time.
This was such a huge hit in the 80’s. This is pop/Irish music and the beat and music is so infectious (as per Lex’s reaction). I had a mate at school who loved this song so much that he filled one full side of a C90 cassette (that’s 45 mins) with it!
My sister did the same thing. Had a tape with this song playing over and over again.
This gurl cracks me up!!! Seems like an older soul in there, mixed with a giggly teen!!✌🏼
One of my absolute favourite holiday memories is this coming on in a dive bar in the middle of Slovenia a few years ago and everyone just 'moving', as Brad describe, while trying to sing it in extremely broken English. Doesn't matter who or where you are, you can't help it. A classic song that'll never go out of fashion
So much of Lex is so appealing. You're a lucky man, Brad.
Without her, I doubt if many people would watch the channel
@@samolevski1119 she is wild spirit and Brad is a very lucky man, but I have a feeling she is a handful in more ways than one :D
She'd do you twice as fast as you do her.
@@samolevski1119 And without him not many would watch this channel. It's their dynamic, their synergy of opposites that makes this channel so appealing.
But note that they are a lot more similar to each other on their other channel. They clearly are both are very intelligent, and I find their analysis and comments on that channel always interesting.
@@UnexpectedTurnOfEvents Anyone who hasn't seen the walkthrough of their home needs to see it to appreciate them both better.
Simply the best American reaction channel. You both give such wonderful insights into your opinion's. Whilst still loving each other to bits you are never afraid to disagree and give your opinions on music and taste. Simply the best reaction channel! Never change x
Not only did we sing, we stamped our feet to the rhythm. Imagine 200 people stamping on a sprung dance floor. It was and still is deafening.
The pace change makes this song legendary.
I don't think I've ever had as much fun on a dancefloor dancing to any other song than this one, just incredible energy, everyone loves it no matter what age, still makes me smile and fills me full of joy every time I hear it!
Great reaction guys...Side note, Dexys were drugs that helped you stay alert into the early hours in British Northern soul clubs ,hence Dexys midnight runners.
Lex your reaction was every kid in the 80s hearing this song. Such a perfect reaction to a fun song!
lex is so full of happiness and energy it makes us smile
Lex's Reactions are so fun to watch. She interestingly pictures herself on a farm with her overalls. In the original video for the song, the singer is wearing a pair of overalls! All the characters look as if they're from a rustic rural countryside town possibly farmers although more likely minors... But still it is so entertaining to watch both Lex's reaction and Brad's reaction to her!
I was about to go to bed in a bad mood but then I watched this. You two are so damn adorable together. And this reaction is just full of sheer JOY. it’s infectious. Thank you for putting some positive energy into my life. I think I will sleep well.
What a fun couple! Lex giggles away and lets her emotions fly. Brad is super fun with a smooth, steady rocking vibe as he listens intently. A perfect Yin and Yang experience for all of us!
This is such a GENUINELY great reaction. You can't stage this. What a beautiful moment caught on film.
From a guy that grew up with the best music from the 80s this is a awesome song, and I love your reaction to this. Great job 👍
Lex had me rollin’ today!!! And Brad, you’re absolutely right; it’s a jig! Great reaction guys!!!
One of my favorite reactions from you guys !
Lex's happiness and giggles are the perfect remedy to get out of a Ho-Hum mood and make your day brighter .❤️
This is a proper school disco tune and was everywhere in the 80s - funny you should say farm song though as the lead singer wears country type denim overalls - when i see a lot of your reactions of songs we grew up with I have to think you guys are quite young to not have heard a lot of them. guess it isnt something that has come up often.
This is a great song to dance to and people still rush for the dance floor when it comes on. It's so high energy, especially the last bit when it builds and builds to the point where it's hard to keep up. Great fun, but knackering!
Brad Is Absolutely Right About The Jig,, Just Watch The Official Video To See.
Watching Lex get so much joy out of music is awesome.
I agree Lex makes it fun to watch. Her pure unadulterated joy for the music is contagious and makes you smile. Brad on the other hand needs to loosen up just a bit and not try to figure out the meaning of every song. Sometimes you just have to let the "music" take over.
Maybe it's not really Brad. Maybe he's been replaced by a GIF of him! 😂😂😂😂
Nay, Brad's fine. Every comedy duo needs a straight man!!
Watching Lex actually made my eyes water with the biggest smile on my face. Pure joy is incredible to watch. I will watch this reaction whenever I need my spirits lifted. Amazing.
The grin on Brad's face as the bass chimes into the intro is priceless.
This is EVERYONE's first reaction to this classic. Happy vibes!
And your right ... when this one comes on in the club ... you GOTTA dance.
Brad, you were completely on top of this song!
No party is complete without this song. Every wedding, every birthday party, when family and friends get together. Æx 🙏
By the way Lex, if you want to hear farm songs, you should check out The Wurzels. They do some interesting covers, as well as their own songs. Æx 🙏
Imagine being able to spend your days with someone as funny, smart, playful and beautiful as Lex.
Some guys have it so tough.
@Susan Corr I bet he is a loving caring and partner. He makes her laugh and encourages her, he has never put her down or made her a but of a joke.
We only see a snap shot of Brad and Lex's relationship. It's not fair to say something as hurtful and shallow as you did.
Ultimate wedding reception song!
I can’t help but smile when I see Lex enjoying these songs….such a happy soul
Lex, that was the most animated reaction I've seen from you, and it's hard to find one.
My dad taught me this song was very dirty; I never knew how dirty he meant until I read all of these lyrics. Gotta love the Scottish
THIS is literally my favorite song. 1) Because I grew up in the 80s when itcwas released, and 2) because it makes me feel just like Lex felt when she heard it. 😁. You canNOT hear this song andcstsy in any kind of bad mood. As for "farmy" and dancing a jig, you're kinda close there because in the video they're wearing overalls and dancing a bit of a jig. Cheers!
Lex's dance moves at the end was EVERYTHING!
Believe me when this song was played everyone was on there feet going crazy ,it was wonderful. Loved your reaction 💖💙💖💙UK
Lex giggling like a school girl!! Awesome!! You guys are great.
This was a must play song at my wedding in October. Always a banger.
Half way thru I realize how big my smile is. Love your reaction.
This always reminds me of my youth and a family friend blaring it from her house during the summer, RIP Pauline.
Lex isn't too far off. In the official video they're playing a banjo and wearing dungarees
Lex becomes Eileen for the entire song. Perfect. *Chefs kiss*
You really should check out the original video.. Great reaction, btw. Lex’s energy is amazing, as usual, and Brad smiled. Not just a grin, but a big smile. :-D
Lex just seems like the embodiment of joy. You both make a great couple. I enjoy your reactions...keep them coming.
Your joy listening to this song feels like I'm listening to this for the first time again too.
What a perfect reaction to this banger! Try "Geno" by them next! Dexy's and Kevin Rowland have such a seriously interesting story!
you both right, when this song played everybody, but everybody sang along and did a jig!! Loved it
This song always makes me happy when I hear it, but I never knew all the words until now! Thanks for reacting to a lyrics video-and special thanks for brightening our days with this fun song and all your other reactions!!
This is always a staple at any British party, club or bar 😂
Omg! Lex you totally get the same vibe as me from this and even do the same little jig... But I only just "got" the words in a grown up way.... After 30some years🤣💜🧚♀️
Lex is GenX. . . no doubt about it.
Ironically, this is such a unique song, yet is quintessential 80's.
I love Lex' love for music.
You two are class A entertainment. You've been doing my 80s hit lists lately and I love it. Use to go to the club every Thursday for 80s night.
It was rough on girls named Eileen and Leah back in the 80s.
Yeah, everyone wanted to come on them :D
Brad's moves: nil
Lex's moves: enough for both of them 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿🤣
💜
Dexys started as a post punk/soul band (their first album was a masterpiece) and their second album was this style. Kevin Rowland (main man and singer) completely changed musical direction but kept some horns. The fiddles and banjo were from Irish music (his parents were Irish and he lived in Ireland for a few years as a child).
The “too ra loo ra” bit is from Irish folk music where you’d occasionally have sections that were made up of words that didn’t mean anything. Like scat music.
Brad, You got to feel the luckiest man alive. That precious woman by your side, who's laughter, insight and beauty is just pure to the core! May this world always shine bright light on you both to keep that joy, as it is so absolute, and PRICELESS!
Now Get Up and Jig for Her.
When banjo and fiddle are present, it's fair to call it a farm song.
I love when lexxy giggles and laughs
I think you are correct, the way I remember the video on MTV it was on a farm. Thanks,
Brother Gary
Lex's idea of farm work is amazing lolol
I am loving watching your reactions to the songs I love and grew up with. You say that you are hearing these for the first time, yet your reactions tell me you get what we did the first time we heard them! It's like watching mates listening to the same songs as ourselves for the first time over again.
Your reactions are so refreshing and insightful, you both get them, but from a different place many times, you're so happy, that it's infectious, that's what I'm enjoying about watching your reactions so much!
Please react to another Australian group (not saying "Dexy's Midnight Runners" are Aussie, but meaning that I've noticed your reactions to another Australian band named "AC-DC") named "Icehouse", they started off as "The Flowers" and their first album was called "Icehouse", but, as there was already an American band/group called the "Flowers", and because they wanted to expand over there, or to save confusion, our "The Flowers" changed their name to the title of their first LP.
IceHouse aren't as big a name as the other bands you've been listening to, but I believe you'll enjoy their unique sound just the same. "Great Southern Land" has a big sound and gives a great vibe as to how we feel about our country Australia, "We Can Get Together" has a fun dancey feel to it.
Please give our "IceHouse" a listen, you won't regret it!
Also check out "Mental As Anything's" "Cats and Dogs" album, there are so many groups here, Hunters And Collectors, the list goes on!
Carlos.
You should do "Centerfold" by J. Geils Band.
🤣 Lex is hilarious 🤣
She’s a human cartoon 🤣🤣
Lex is awesome! Her reaction was pretty much my reaction when I first heard it years ago...
My Mothers name is Eileen, i havent listened to this since her death, i loved watching the both of you enjoying this song. I miss her so much!!!
While I don't really understand the "farm" vibe that Lex takes from this song, I always enjoy her take on these songs, it's always entertaining. And I'm often amazed at how she can (often) zero in on the true essence of a song upon a first listen.
In this case, Brad really nails it with the image of a bar and everyone singing along. Of course, the bar would need to be filled with old farts like yours truly, who remember this from a youth in the 80's.... :-)
i think it is the use of the fiddle
She means Like Scottish Barn Dance in the Highlands a cèilidh A party with FOLK music in a rustic setting not old mac Donald had a farm come on Man
Lex hit us with the 'oohh' 3 times within the first 15 seconds because of the changes on the intro....greatness.
The look on Lex’s face ….. priceless
It is an Opus Magnus of joy
If it does not bring a smile to your face when you hear the opening chords , you must be pulseless
Come to a wedding in Ireland or Scotland or England and there's a good chance you'll hear this. You can't help filling the dancefloor!
Lex doesn't know how close she is given the getups they wear in the video.
A bit more chill but same vibe, 'Life in a Northern Town' or 'The Love Parade' by Dream Academy. So much good music.
Love the review. Must be the banjo and the British slang giving the country vibe. This came out in ‘82 I think and it was so different than the rest. MTV explored the song and it was 15 different instruments playing in the song (including a cowbell? LOL). Play it at a wedding and all the little kids get crazy with the dancing. In the 80s It seems every time the music started sounding the same another British band would come and shake things up. Billy Idol, Duran Duran, U2, Howard Jones, the Cure….great times.
One of my favourite songs to dance at a bar .everyone jumps and dances to this song .
You guys are awesome 👏.
Nobody can't be HAPPY when this song plays.. I'm not a "happy" person but this song puts a smile on my face..
Brad completely gets caught up in the vibe and feels the need to dance. Lex subliminally latches on to the banjo line and feels "farm'!. Both are completely right this time!! Such a classic, and (from the typing of this comment) we're not even to the drop. "Come on" man!
The amount of Lex's giggling in this video just slays me.
'I'm serious!' What a joy you two are. The video to this song is great.
This is one of these songs that hugely annoy you but can't get out of your head anymore.
yes she got the right feel of this tune, I can see her doing that step they did to this song,
Lex is right every time!!! FARM SONG!!!! I AGREE!!!!
As a metalhead I'm not ashamed to admit I really love a lot of those wacky New Wave songs from the '80s. I like to collect the compilations, they're like a guilty pleasure for me. Depending on the comp. you'll either get the single radio edits or the longer 12" club versions...both types are cool. It's a nice change of pace and just about the most fun music there is IMHO.
This song was soooo huge back then, and people still love it
One of my favorites of all time. Have to dance when I hear this song.
These 2 could save the NHS millions! Who need meds just watch these 2 daily !!
This is the best one ever. Lex is just so happy that she fills the world with joy!
Drop this at a party in the UK (wedding, bar, works social, wake whatever) - whole place goes mental, including grandma!
This song will always be the answer to a trivia question. It held the #1 Billboard spot on the US charts for the ONE week between Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and "Beat It".
An absolute 80's Classic.
This song was THE quintessential guilty pleasure song of the 80s!!!! 😜❤✌🏼
I loved this song so much in 80s I would turn the radio up as loud as could , loved the tune and the speed up part, the whole song is so fun
They are an Irish group and that song that the violin is playing at the beginning is those endearing young charms
