Thank you so much Mark. I was just about to go out at lunch and get a Carrera Gt real quick. You saved me so much time. I’m not worried about that much money. 😂😂
Retired Porsche Sales Consultant. In 2009, we had THREE Carrera GTs in our US showroom. All with less than 15 miles on them. They were locked and not available to even sit in. I sold one, listed at $440,000 for $370,000. Not my decision. We were not allowed to sell any Carrera GT outside of the US. Someone, using US credentials purchased the other two. The next we heard about these two, somebody was looking for replacement keys as they had "misplaced" the original keys to BOTH cars. The cars location was given as " on the docks." In LONDON.....
I was lucky enough in 2007 to get a few laps on a track day in a Carrera GT (driven pretty hard!). Couldn't quite get over 200mph, but we got pretty close! V10, Manual..... such an animal!
Love the videos mark, but nipper loves them even more. He loved seeing you in Catshill (bromsgrove) thank you for taking time to talk to him. If you don't find a buyer for the KA we will buy it for him for his learning in 5 years bless him. Your an idol and inspiration to him.
I love this video. Learned a lot about the market for CGT's. Recently here in the Philippines these things are starting to pop up. Usually only 2 known CGT's here in our country. One owned by the Porsche PH Distributor. Right now it's 2 Silver, 1 Red (rumored to be delivery mileage) and 1 Yellow one.
Why are you just now appearing in my feed? Great videos, very informative and entertaining at the same time! Hilarious editing, relatable bloke telling it like it is, I’m going to go out on a limb and subscribe, like and share with my mates! Well done, young man!
Someone's probably written it already but for those that didn't see it... Mark, the reason why they made the gearknob out of birchwood is because in the 917 LeMans race cars they made the gearknob out of wood to save weight...though I've also heard it was to protect the driver's hands when changing gears since the transmission was so hot a metal gearknob would burn the driver's hands. The wood in the CGT is a nod to that racing past.
He didn’t lose any money at all- Mark bought 2 CGT's for 245k apiece, and sold them for 600k. He made almost a million in profit on the sales in only about 5 years of ownership. Selling the cars before the values really took off to 1.1m each doesn't mean he "lost money," he just didn’t make as much as he could of had he waited (which during a pandemic is is understandably unlikely). Clickbait title should be "I made half a million investing into Carrera GT's but could've made more had I held for two more years."
About 6 minues in it was cool seeing the young actorTemuera Morrison buying a car from the late great Kiwi comedian John Clarke before he went to Ozzie and became a big star. Tem Morrison went on to act in a Star Wars movie, Once Were Warriors and others. Comedian Clarke was playing his alter ego Fred Dagg, the gig that started him on his way to winning several Ozzie TV awards over the years. He was a Downunder Icon.

I deal in exclusive limited edition ladies handbags and I have the same problems. You sell an Alligator skin Birkin bag one day for $137,000 and then find it’s been resold for $2,389,000 within a few months. Ladies handbags, super cars same thing.
Unless there’s another catastrophic crash like 08. Never know what’s going to happen, this is such a dumb video lol. This is like the guy who paid 10k bitcoin for a pizza.
Gutted mark. My dad had an 1987 carrera ciupe with beautiful spec including g50 box, was stunning. He got back what h3 paid for it, having had it for over 20 years and 30,000 very very enjoyable miles. He was sick when he saw a similar car sell at auction and higher mileage sell for triple some years later. But my mum remind3d him of all the pleasure it gave him, and that it’d have been such a bore keeping it in beautiful nick, and he’d have never have used it where they live now as he’d have had to garage it away from: the house they live in or store it as you did! Yes he says now, you can’t take the money with you, and he had an amazing time owning it!
Just like any investing Mark, some luck involved in the timing of buying and selling. We have all had the, if only I had held on a bit longer, but hindsight is a great thing. You made a tidy profit on both and it should be viewed as a win. If prices had of plummeted, you would have been laughing all the way to the bank. Good profit made and a pat on the back. Maybe a better win on the next one ( just don't try with a McLaren of course, unless it has an F1 badge 😉).
It’s really much worse than the lack of traction control. As can be seen with DDE in the video, the brackets break off the shock absorbers ! And not even so rarely. I think this also happened in the accident because the driver could drive but could not catch a breaking shock absorbers !
Leak in a story lline the market went up due to Las Vegas Auction where low miles CGT was sold for over 2.000.000$ Thats when another spyke happened. I believe it was 2021-2022
Great VIDEO Mark. The Carrera GT is a great example of investment cars and the gamble. I was offered one at £250k and honestly thought - NO WAY these are so expensive to own and I couldnt understand knowing how amazing the car was on paper that no one wanted one. Then the crash and I thought to myself with a HUGE smile, I was right. No look at cars over £1.3 Million. Anyone selling a DeLorean time machine that can do 88mph?
Just over 15 years ago I was offered a Nissan Skyline R34 for £8k by a workmate who was moving away to Australia. My wife was pregnant with our first child at the time so I bought a 4 door saloon instead. The price of those cars now🤦♂️😩
I bought a 2021 tesla model 3 paid 36000$ and then sold it for 46000$ later due to full self driving. Also tesla cars need no oil maintenance for a really really long time. I have another model x for 6 years now no maintenance at all and it working in very heavy snow areas

Exotic car salesman don't lose sleep on how much they lost due to a cars increase in value after it left their inventory, they want turnover and volume. Enthusiast don't care about the value of the cars they just want to drive them. The in between guys suffer dearly from trying to be both.
0:29 lmao what? The CGT is definitely not based off of the GT1-98 LM, they started developing the concept in 2000 and used a shelved V10 that was developed for F1 competition, which never was conclusive.

Im not a whiney liberal but I had a boss in the 90s that told me "never feel sorry for a guy who owns an airplane" kinda the same here. Life if so decadent these days this is just the real price of the car. As much as I HATE HATE HATE dealerships because they take the second biggest purchase people make... Suppose to be a happy event and make it so horrible for the everyday person they rather get teeth pulled @20k per tooth. However these high end makers need their dealer base to sell their "common" stuff and this is how to make it work.
That car was then sold to "canada", the dealer who bought it in canada is uncle ray² from SR Autogroup. The only reason why the carrera is so expensive is because there is a limited number of them. Dont treat cars like stocks. It could also go the other way where the price goes down because only so many people know about the car/care about it. The thing is that alot of people will fear the car because they know it is dangerious and not want to buy the car because of it. The price of rare cars also pushes alot of buyers away. Why buy a really expensive rare car wheb you can get a model for way less but has similar performance. Whos going to want to sit 15 - 30 years on a car and not be able to use it. Go buy a used sports car. Have fun with it,keep it. Invest other money you have in other things. The ultra rare cars are for people with money to burn.
Oh wow! That's a wild story. I wonder if the Canadian that bought the car was the owner of August luxury motorcars. I feel like DDE got theirs from him around that time.
In hindsight it would have been worth going into debt and buying one of these when their values were around the 100-150k mark. Worst of all I personally think that their values will not remain at current day values😢😢. The only way is up (IMO).
Hi Mark. Wow what a true story. A Carrera GT. I will never own one lol. Thanks for all your hard work and great video. Hindsight is a Great thing as they say lol. 😅🇨🇮
It’s amusing to me how much of a froth people make about purist supercars like the Carrera GT and McLaren F1. They’re light, highly exotic, racing car refugees with manual gearboxes and tricky, expert-only handling. Which somehow only adds wildly to the appeal. If BMW or Aston want to set enthusiast or collectors’ pants on fire, the special edition they produce o make everyone hysterical is - a lightweight, exotic, manual, unobtainable piece of art like the Victor or the new 3.0 CSL. And yet… between Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, BMW and Lamborghini, there isn’t a single car that fits this brief. Porsche’s GT cars get close, but they’re based on relatively un-exotic base models. I find it a bit weird that manufacturers don’t make a little more effort to make sure that at the top of their ranges, there isn’t always an niche model for the wealthy enthusiasts so that it’s not constantly a handbags at Dawn affair to fight over the tiny handful of legacy cars that fit the brief. Gordon Murray cottoned onto this demand and has completely sold out of several hundred T50s and T33s at 2 to 4 million quid each.
The entire message of this is wrong. You didn’t “lose” anything though, did you? That’s like saying I would be a millionaire if I invested in Disney in 1920.
