😂😂Ratio EN feels like he's fed up with Aventurine, well at least Aventurine found a caring friends
He's fed with everyone 😂
For a moment I forgot who he was, not until I heard his EN voice and remembered 😂
He betrayed him
@@nicekill7858 the betrayal was obviously a part of the plan
@nicekill7858 it wasnt a true betrayal though was it
Dr. Ratio is such a tsundere in EN. Guy out there bullying everyone, but bullying Aventurine with care.
He's a special case for Ratio.
I hate everyone, especially you. But I also care deeply for you (secretly).
Wait didnt Ratio betray Aventurine or im wrong?
@@bri...... There is a whole thread explaning it since that is a complicated topic, but I wil try to summarize: Short asnwer No.
Long answer: The birds we see in game are Sunday´s , so Sunday was watching them all the time, resultng in Ratio and Aventurine not being able to communicate very openly. Resulting in mind games - normally you wanna deduct what your opponent thinks you will do, and do the opposite, but since Aventurine and Ratio are allies, the moment Ratio realized what Aventurine s plan is, what he is counting on (on Ratio betraying him), Ratio had to go along with that plan coz otherwise he d ruin Aventurine´s plan(Hence he says "I thought I did what you wanted me to do"). However, once again due to the birds, they couldnt discuss this in detail - leaving a seed of doubt in Aventurine´s mind.....which is why Aventurine smiles once he reads the note from Dr Ratio at the end as it clearly shows Ratio knew his plan all along, which makes his "betrayal" not a betrayal as he did it to serve Aventurine´s plan.
The whole time i thought the bird's were Ratio's....they were blue 😅
And i thought he was keeping a covert eye on Sunday this way.
@@anemonaspritehow did you think that? Not trying to be rude, just genuinely asking.

that's just me though, you don't have to agree
I remember seeing an interview with Dr. Ratio's English Voice Actor where he described how he would often try to say his voice lines in a softer/kinder/more playful way (because it was hard for him to be so mean) but the director kept pushing him to be meaner.... Listening to the other languages now, I do wonder why the voice director chose to go this hard. Honestly though, I don't hate it. I'm more just curious. The actor is so talented to me that sometimes the really harsh tone/sarcasm makes the scene funnier. Also, given how it's part of his character background that he puts his students in emotional distress with how harsh he is, I wouldn't say it's out of character.... Though, maybe every once in a while, I do think they could benefit from sprinkling in a softer tone (when it comes to how he deals with people he doesn't genuinely hate anyway).
You answered your own question. Dr. Ratio sounds like that cuz it's literally how the character is.
@@CrusesFear Not quite, you're only addressing a fragment of what I said. English is clearly the only language where Dr. Ratio takes that kind of tone like 98% of the time with everyone, whereas the other languages will occasionally show a different side to him a bit more often. You seem to be insinuating that the English Dr. Ratio is the most in character version, which is fine if that's how you interpret him to be, but clearly this Director's vision was different than that of all the other languages in that case. I don't think it's any better or worse, just different, and I wasn't criticizing, stating that it is a curious choice- given that it seems to be a decision that the English director frequently takes, to make various characters sound harsher than they do in all other languages.
@@yuyu2b different cultures have different cadences. like a new yorker yelling at you is just them saying hello. asian countries tend to be more monotone when trying to be a asshole because they instead change the words they use to get the point across its just how their culture works, if we don't speak both languages fluently its best not to compare to deeply as we really don't know. like i know japan has 9 different ways to say "I" based on situation.

@Imp333 I'm fluent in all 4 languages and I can say for certain even with cultural context, the meaning and intonation for the sentences in the 3 other languages are not as harsh as their English counterpart. EN Ratio : This cockroach again ??
Damn, they ain't lying whe they say EN sounds brutal
From comments I read that went in deep with the CN translation, CN is equally brutal, it just doesn't show in the tone but rather in the choice of words.
@@keerya4179 it's just in en they went extra with the "false concern" that was not even in the original. kr "shingyeong kkeugo" is kinda equal with cn, jp is surprisingly softer with "shinpai shinakute ii".
@@keerya4179 in CN, it's more like, 'focus on yourself, i have no need your concern/worries'. it's kind of like 'don't trouble yourself over me.' but he says it in a very cold tone. it's much less outwardly mean as the EN version bc nowhere does he accuse aventurine of being fake or pretending to care.
its the same with topass in japanese shes kinda chill and in en shes just so annoyed lmao

We are
They had this same issue with Genshin, except this time it was with Itto and Ayato. They made Ayato sound so damn mean to Itto when in reality Ayato actually enjoyed his company and him as a friend.
Maybe if people keep mentioning it in surveys they will redo the line?
Ayato's "About Itto" line has been redone, likely because of fan feedback. There was a recent event where Ayato was friendly toward Itto too.
They atleast changed the tone of the voice line tho, I guess like Barbra maybe seele voiceline may get an rework to sound nicer?
@@prabhjotbakshi7642 we need barbara to become happy again
@@liandoaethend2403funny enough, I think they changed the en one to sound more like cn. The cn one is much calmer.
Its sad how ratios line with aventurine is dynamic wise pretty far away with english and CN. Ratio telling aventurine he should take care of himself instead of worrying about ratio. While in english he tells him he should stop with the false display of concern. I have no idea why english is so far away with the translations
right? Like i understand sometimes they need to use certain words to make the translation smoother but honestly this kind of thing wouldn't have been too bad to include as the official translation. It's like they don't want to show that ratio is capable of caring for others (which is ironic bc his character story and his actions towards adventurine esp with the thing he gave him show that he cares a whole lot more than he shows)
In this case, though, "just worry about yourself" doesn't mean "don't worry about me and take care of yourself" in Chinese. It means "mind your own business" or "stay in your lane".
@@soaringaegisso it’s essentially just a tone of voice difference in what’s being said
Don’t worry. In my opinion I think they conveyed the context and tone from Chinese to English to the maximum most of the time. For example, "take care of yourself" is simply a literal translation from CN, but actually means "mind your own business." Also "I don’t need your concern" sounds quite harsh and ruthless too, cause "用不着" is an imperious/disdainful way of saying "no need," there is just no such equivalent expression between the two languages, so they rephrased it often. Otherwise, the original tone and meaning could be totally missing like what’s happening now.
On the contrary, I was surprised by how he sounds less aggressive in JP😂
I like how DELICIOUS sounds Ratio's CN voice actor 😍
LMAO Dr Ratio's EN VA is top tier with his witty comments and foxy attitude, Sheesh XD
Honestly I love Ratio’s va but the directions they gave him made their friendship REALLY confusing.
i speak chinese and the cn dub has a completely different tone from the english version, the voices in english definitely sound good, but the direction taken by translation/localization has completely messed with the original meaning of the sentences (and with the relationships between characters). and that is what i'm not very happy about.
the chinese version of the voiceline is more like rivals with a bit of sass? (but still suggesting some level of caring), whilst the english one is like ratio straight up spitting acid at him. which, having played through the story quest, the chinese one definitely seems to convey the sort of relationship they have much better.
both dubs are good, it's just that i think the localization could use a bit of work. yes, ratio can be harsh and arrogant, but the english dub makes him come across as overly so. i think the other dubs (take it with a pinch of salt for the kr and jp as i'm not quite fluent enough to REALLY read tone yet,) are able to walk that fine line to convey his pride and yet still carry that undertone of him actually caring. as compared to making him so off-puttingly brash and haughty.
could just be me though, but that's my impression at least.
Do you use CN sub too? There is one time, when they were in the Pavilion, Ratio called him "Dear Gambler" in EN sub. But someone told me that was mislocalization, CN ver was "Damn Gambler". I'm very confused because "dear" and "damn" have no similar meaning at all.
I'm bilingual too, and I totally agree.
@@akarifuyuki9763In Chinese, "dear" often is meant sarcastically. So "damn gambler" would be an accurate translation.
It can sometimes be said sincerely, but I don't think that's the case here given Dr Ratio's personality.
@@soaringaegis Oh so I'm not wrong. When I read that word in EN, I thought he meant it sarcatically based on his personality. But if you don't know him, it can be mistaken as he said it sincerely. They should use "damn" word for EN. Ok thanks
@@akarifuyuki9763 hahaha then they could have just added like asterisks or quotation marks to the "dear" to make it more obvious tbh, i think the sarcasm is pretty funny
i use english sub since it's my first language, and usually play on japanese dub since i like hearing herta say kuru kuru
I actually don't think he sounds harsh at all, just loud and haughty. And it does fit imo
Playing up the contrast with the other languages by putting on a red tint over the clip just makes it look like the "bad" one
Dr. Razio EN sounds like Professor Snape
I CAN'T
At this point, it’s mostly the EN directors doing their own thing, completely ignoring the intended interactions between various characters. I just don’t get why they want so many characters to have a sense of superiority, or have them constantly looking down on others.
my ((personal)) take is that, even though en ratio gives him more attitude and character, it's a bit off from what's the cn ver intended how ratio feels about aventurine. cn, jp, and kr give me a vibe of someone who's miffed? with aven's gambling but there's an obvious hint that he cares about aven who's careless with his own life, while en ratio is just straight up aggressive (the localization did NOT help too) and feels a bit unnecessarily rude to the point of not wanting to BE around him. i'm guessing this isn't the voice actor's fault at all but rather the direction he was told to do, which was... unfortunate, i guess, because this isn't the first time en voiceovers make characters sound hostile when they're not. i like the en dub in a lot of instances too, like aventurine's, the penacony cast sounds amazing, luofu's (except jingliu, they overdid her), but ratio... idk it's too much.
i read somewhere that ratios en va did try to give variety to his voices like being a little softer and gentle but apparently their director kept pushing him to be more aggressive
2.1 quest spoilers ahead ----
im gonna be honest, i use en dub and i genuinely thought ratio hated aventurine until he opened that letter in the void nihility looking place
i forgot what it said word for word but i did remember that ratio called him "friend" and i was genuinely confused 💀
It’s hard to notice, but if you really focus on the words, you can subtlety notice some hints that show that Dr. Ratio cares. Like he speaks slightly different with Adventurine than with other casts. It’s hard to notice right away, but it’s there. You just have to squint sometimes
i played with CN dub and english sub and can confirm that the writing was what made him seem like an asshole. i wanted to throw him off the screen and i usually like arrogant scholar characters XD
I love how they're frenemies , They remind me of me and my bsf , me and her be bantering and we be yapping and roasting each other but deep down we care for each other
Isn't EN a little bit out of character for someone who told Aventurine to stay alive and wished him the best of luck 😂
nah EN Ratio is a tsundere, he the type to call you an idiot while he write you a sentimental note to never give up :D
I bet that if Aventurine got sick, Ratio d be the type to say "I thought idiots can t get flu..." while he makes him a hot tea.
@@Kunoichi4ever4 That's not how Ratio is supposed to act after betraying someone with self-destructive personality.
I like JP more because Ratio feels apologetic towards Aventurine situation, which only makes sense because Ratio betrayed him nonetheless, even if it was in accord with Aventurine gamble.
Dr Ratio is extremely smart, he knows where he needs to be harsh and where he needs to be kind, when Aventurine was about to sacrifice everything to prove a point, Ratio shows his kind self by wishing Aventurine good luck and giving him an potion of protection against Acheron.
He ain't simple rude guy, Ratio is way more than that and JP knows how to represent it.
@@grimmtherapist lol lmao
@@grimmtherapist Ratio is rough and direct literally always. And this is indeed very much how Ratio is supposed to act after 'betraying' Aventurine, as both knew they were playing along for his gamble, as explained in the story. Ratio caring about Aventurine doesn't change he acts rough to literally everyone. The EN VA is by far the best and closest to how Ratio is as a character.
FYI, he doesn't give Aventurine any kind of potion. That's a receptable for prescriptions (like a doctor would make), and it simply had that 'prescription' which was a message for Aventurine.
@sosukeaizen1475 But you do realize that he didn't actually betray him and he was just doing what Aventurine told him to do as part of his plan, right?

english version is so weird. the other three are like “i don’t need your help, but you *definitely* need all the help you can get” and the english one is more like “how *dare* you treat me with basic human decency! the disrespect!”
I really hope they update this voice line. It just doesn’t make sense, especially after the event. Both of them dance around their genuine feelings in many ways, but it makes no sense for Ratio to act this hostile towards him when the other languages don’t have that same malice. He’s supposed to be making sure Aventurine is alright, not implying Aventurine is being insincere in being concerned for Ratio. It’s a poor translation.
Aventurine got roasted by Ratio... poor gambler 😓
