Your thoughts about bathrooms was really enlightening. You are right everything is in different spots everywhere, Only consistent is the handicapped stall inconveniently across the room. I wanna ask a question but I am seriously just curious and not hating.... Anyways is there a specific reason a blind person would need to use that stall? I am not saying you don't need to at all. Just wanting to learn the reason why A blind person would need too (maybe you have another invisible disability and thats not my business) but I was just curious if it was important for people that were blind? Maybe room for your service dog? seriously not hating just curious :)
Molly Burke about the bathrooms my brother is in a wheelchair and cannot feel or move his legs and the bathroom stalls are at the end for convinience becoz if it was at the front the person with special needs will be in everyone else's way
Swim 21 You mean because the length of the stall is longer it would be in the way? I could see also if the "special needs" person was slower they would be int he way until they got in the stall but i think most could/would wait, but I am thinking that might be a reason they put it at the end also. Good question. I think the 1st stall is typically the first to be used so that would just impede on those of us (I am also a wheelchair user) that need it using it even more.

If you do a fake service dog video, please explain the differences between service, ESA, and therapy animals and be clear about the difference between "fake" service dogs and psychiatric service dogs. The stigma and people constantly confusing them drives me nuts, and I don't even have one!

I think people use all three terms interchangeably and/or legitimately don't understand the difference. So, when I hear "fake" service dogs I think of people with ESAs trying to pass them off as service animals and then some might think an ESA and psych service dog, or therapy dog are the same thing. It would be an easy mistake for someone who genuinely doesn't know.
Sarah Smith I got into an argument with a friend of mine because they had access issues with an ESA. I told them ESA's do no have access rights and do not perform tasks. If your dog is performing tasks, they're not an ESA and unless you like getting denied, don't refer to the dog as an ESA. They were insistent that the dog was an ESA recommended by her therapist and I was wrong. I sent them links to the ADA's website. They were insistent that their dog was certified to be a service dog to which I replied that there is NOT a certification beyond a license to own a dog that all dog owners are supposed to have. We just kept going back and forth and eventually gave up because they clearly thought their ESA and doesn't perform tasks should have access to the same places they do.

A psychiatric service animal is absolutely the same thing as a "normal" service animal. I'm currently in process to get a PSD for severe anxiety and depression. They are trained to do specific tasks just as a SD. Emotional support animals are the current issue in today's society. People seemingly think that because they were able to obtain an ID online that their dog is automatically granted access to every business. Don't get me wrong, I have an ESA due to housing issues, but am working towards that PSD! In fact, the ESA is training to pass the public access testing that a SD is required to take in order to be legal! c":
EDIT: I'm not bashing on ESA's, I think they are fantastic and provide great, great comfort to their handlers!

mrsteresa1999 basically pet dogs people say are service dogs just so they can take them into a shop even though the dog does no tasks for the person, is usually highly untrained and causes all sorts of issues with real service dogs like aggression or disruptive behaviours
I'd like to see that video as well. I actually saw an ad for fake service animal vests a few weeks ago. I knew about the issue from Molly's videos and a few news articles but I never realized it was so brazen that they would openly advertise them.
Interestingly, I, a person who only has light perception due to the progression of Retinitis Pigmentosa, turn off the lights at all times. Yes, the presence of light helps me in some situations. For example, I keep the light on in the bathroom in unfamiliar areas, like hotel rooms, because I can reach the bathroom with greater ease. I also enjoy the presence of light but my eyes are too light sensitive.

If I were an ice cream flavor, I'd probably be pistachio ice cream. Not only is it green, which is my favorite color, it represents sophistication yet simplicity, which describes me well.

@@maxies4090 The problem is shop owners have to be skeptical of real and fake guide dogs now because lots of people do buy the harness off of the internet and lie, and these dogs see untrained. I had to tell a woman to take her "service dog" and leave after he barked and lunged at another customer. I have never seen a genuine service dog walk into my store, but I see fake ones at least once a week. I'm not saying it's okay, but that's why people need to knock it off with the fake service animals; it forces us to question who's actually disabled and who just wanted to bring their dog to the pizza place and it makes life harder for real service animal users
Madeline Rose that’s why the USA should have a federal registration for service animals and once they graduate training they have certification paperwork and photo ID just like police dogs. And shops and other public places should be able to ask for that proof.
That definitely makes sense that your visual memory would be faded. Even for me as a sighted person, if I try to remember what something looks like that I haven't seen in years it's difficult, e.g. maybe I can't remember what color it was, or the image is kind of faded or unclear in my head, so it makes sense that when you haven't seen anything in years it would be even more so.
as a non-physically disabled person, I personally hate that the "baby changing table" is only in the "accessible stall." I've given my spot in line to ppl in wheelchairs or with service dogs, but I still feel guilty using a stall reserved for people needing a toilet & needing more space &/or support bars, just so I can change my kids diapers. not sure if I'm alone in this, but it makes me feel guilty, as I was taught to never use an accessible stall for myself...
Kris Register it is fine the stalls are actually for people who yes need the extra space etc, but also for women with young children even if your not changing them. It is great that you do give up your place, but although it might seem strange for you to do it, it is fine to do. Sorry I'm 4 months late but hope it is still relevant.
Oh also do you think Gallop knows you're blind? Like would he behave the same if for example you're mum or a friend was holding his harness? Does he still act like he's aware that you can't see even during his off times? I saw in one of your follow me arounds a friend was holding Gallop and he seemed to be acting as if he knew he wasn't working in that moment. I hope that question came out ok I don't want to cause any offence I'm merely just curious as to how much Gallop and other service dogs in general understand xxx

I've never thought of the whole putting the accessible stalls in bathroom at the front of bathroom. That's a good point. Also, being denied access somewhere with your dog should be illegal.
It's illegal in the US under the Americans with Disablities Act. I don't know what the Canadian version would be.
Definitely is illegal in the US, but unfortunately many people and managers don't know that it is against the law to deny entrance. I feel like all employers and employees everywhere should be trained on the ADA.
About the bathroom part, I think that if the accessible stall was near the front more people without any accessibility issues would use it. Also different buildings have different constraints on the layout of a bathroom so I don't think they can be uniform. It might be best if all bathrooms just have a "map" with raised lines on the door so that a blind person would know where everything is going to be in that particular bathroom

To be honest, you have a better taste in fashion and makeup than most sighted people i know
I grew up with two neighbors (sisters) who both have RP. Our local schools were very accepting of it and tried to help them with accessibility as much as possible. They even had a little clinic for their close friends and paraprofessionals who would act as sighted guides for them in elementary school. I recently went on a school trip with them to Disney and it was so cool to see how other people help them and how they don't let their RP get in their way. The older one, who has less vision, went on the tower of terror with me and some other friends and although she didn't enjoy it, she still tried it and that was cool. One of her good friends sat next to her and described the visual effects to her. Both are in class bands and marching band with my dad as the director and they both do very well. Watching your videos has helped me get a better understanding of the restrictions that may apply to them and some of the everyday struggles that they encounter that night not occur to sighted people.

Would it not be cool if they had some kind of map that blind people could read on the wall or the door outside the bathrooms. So that they would immediatly know were things are!

I really appreciate your videos. My mother-in-law has been legally blind for a few years, and her vision is continually getting worse. I started watching your UA-cam videos in an effort to found ways to assist her. Thank you for being so open about things. I'm always trying to find the right balance of helping her without insulting her ability to do things herself. I know everyone is different, but you definitely help me have a starting point!
I think I can understand what you mean when you describe "picturing" things. Even for sighted people, of course the longer we go without seeing something, the less clear it becomes. Even when I picture something in my head that I see every day, it's not the same as seeing it with my eyes. There's significant detail missing and it's a dark, muddy image that looks nothing like seeing with eyes. I imagine it's not much different for you to picture something than it is for most sighted people to picture something from our childhoods. It's very distant and often my memory isn't accurate. I might go back to an old house and realise it looks completely different than how my child-self saw it!

That’s such an excellent point about the accessible stalls in public restrooms always being the furthest away! I never thought about it, but that’s a no brainer! They should be the first one available, ALWAYS. Thank you for pointing out the obvious that I honestly never thought about. I’ll never look at a public restroom the same again. 😊🙏🏼

Hey Molly from the past ! I know people are telling that your bangs don't fit your face, and in a few months you're going to let them grow, then you'll cut your hair and make tons of fancy colors ! (which will suit you soooo well I'm impressed how every haircut/color fits for you) BUT you need to know that I think your bangs are really original and cute on you. I know you rely a lot on people to take "beauty decisions" like they're your mirror, but you must also follow your feelings, because if you embrace a haircut, whatever it is, if you wear it like a crown, I mean... You'll just look like a queen ;)
PS do NOT regret what you did because your colored hair, even without bangs, just perfectly matches your bubbly and positive personality (to me, at least). It looks less formal and strict (if it makes sense - I'm not native speaker so please excuse my vocabulary) than your long dark hair with bangs :)

In Australia we have very strict laws with service dogs so we don't have an issue with people widely doing the wrong thing. Sorry to hear you have problems.

Hello Molly! I absolutely adore your videos. They are so inspirational. I wish that you could come and speak at my school, but I'm all the way in Pennsylvania.
I think I you understand how you remember things, I'm 30 years old and when I was like 10 I had the idea of remembering something forever so I memorized one of the walls of my room with all the furniture, and I still remember it, but the memory is so fussy that I can't focus on a part of that memory I just know I remember it.
Your observations on light perception, are very interesting. I wasn't sure if everyone with vision issues had that, or not.
I'm pretty sure they put the accessible stalls at the back of the washroom to prevent people who don't need them from using them because people usually use the closest stall. I never thought of how annoying that could be though

So obvious and yet you're right, I ignorantly in my privilege never thought about it: the accessible stall IS the last stall. Always! How about when it's multiple rows and not all rows have an accessible stall? We have 2 different layouts in my office alone.
My family raised a puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and were made aware of the fake service dog problem, but I would love to have you articulate it, so that it's easy to spread awareness about. People may think they are being innocent when they are really causing major issues for blind people. Love you! ❤
Are there any words that the computer/phone reads that have an incorrect pronunciation that is funny to you? My favorite from Siri is the word Buccheits (a store). It is actually pronounced "buc-kites," but Siri says, "bu cheats" and it always makes me laugh :)

... yes🙌 a Standard bathroom set up would be amazing!!! And, maybe decide whether everything is motion sensitive or not. This doesn't necessarily have to be standard across the board (that might be asking for too much), but if it's at least consistent in the same bathroom that would be great.

misinterpreted this, but like you, I am a professional actor; I am also a
college student. I am cited, but cannot see very well. In fact, I'm attempting
to learn braille. As a college student, one of the most significant difficulties for me
as proofreading. I'm aware of software such as "Claro read and write out
loud," but sometimes those don't always work; as they do not have words
correctly all the time. My question to you today is this. Other than having my
caregiver read it what are some ways I can correct my term paper independently?

Hi Molly, I understand the struggle with accessibility, especially with accessibile bathrooms/toilets. I have a physical/ neurological disability that I've had since birth called Cerebral Palsy. Put simply, my brain doesn't communicate with my muscles properly, meaning I cannot walk unaided and most of the time, I use a wheelchair to get around because I fatigue easily as it takes 10 times the amount of energy for me to walk (both physically and mentally) versus that of an physically abled person.
I live in Australia, and I have noticed that some places don't even have accessible bathrooms, and the ones that do often have very heavy doors; so often when I go out somewhere, I have to take somebody with me, just so I have someone to help me open the toilet door! When I want to go places on my own, I usually have to take precautionary measures before I leave the house so I can avoid going to the bathroom. Also, in Australia, not all accessible toilets are actually big enough to fit a wheelchair in comfortably, which also makes me so mad! I was wondering if you have the same issues with bathrooms/toilets that are labeled as 'accessible' actually being accessible for you and your guide dog in the US or Canada? You have a beautiful personality, and from watching your videos, I can tell you are really passionate about educating people about blindness and breaking the barriers in society that divide visually impaired and sighted people. I also share the same passion, in that I want to help get rid of the stigma around disability in general, especially physical disability. I stumbled across your channel when I watched a couple of videos you filmed with a few beauty gurus.

How would you want a blind person to be portrayed in media? I feel like that's really tough since you made me realize that many blind people don't "look/act blind"
I think the answer to that is the same as portraying any other "special" character like gay or whatever. TV shows and movies tend to put a huge emphasis on that character's "special" trait in a way they wouldn't with other traits, when really what they should do is just let it be. Have a character that is lesbian or blind or whatever do their thing and live their fictional lives without focusing too much on that trait, so that it becomes normal. It's a case of "fake it until you make it", if people see those things being regarded as normal and a non-issue often enough they will eventually internalize it

It makes sense that your visual memory would fade. What's interesting is that even some sighted people "imagine" this way. It's called aphantasia. It's kind of a spectrum i guess. One one end you have people who have very clear visual mind's eye, and on the other end there are people who have zero actual visuals happening and they think about things by conceptualizing them. Of course it's different having the sighted reference but on the far end there's still nothing in the way of being able to picture things. After discovering this existed, I realized I'm somewhere in the middle, kind of like what you described Molly. If it's something concrete that I have recently seen i might have a brief but obscure flash of having seen it, but picturing things I haven't seen is all unclear and dark and "far away" and confusing, and also I can't picture a whole scene, the most I can muster is random snippets that are mostly unformed

My tip for speaking in public is: "Don't assume too much. You may be tempted to have pessimistic thoughts like "They won't like me, they will make fun of my tone of voice or what I wear". The truth is you have no idea what others are thinking. 99 percent of the time they are not criticizing you. They are focusing on their own self-doubt.
Molly, would you ever consider speaking in D.C. to law makers about issues related to blind folks? As a professional speaker, you have such a gift of oration and could give a powerful message about the visually impaired. The world needs more people like you!

in sweden all the public washrooms mostly look the same and, the things in there like soap, water shows images and is written in braille wich is really cool.
