  • Betting tipsters never lose, but do you know why? This explains why tipsters always win, how they make money and why you should think twice before following their betting tips. This business model applies to large betting sites like the Racing Post, OddsChecker and At the Races as well as many smaller social media tipping services.

      The problems with "making a living" from betting is that most people use betting as a form of entertainment, are not ruthless/disciplined enough and do not have the wherewithal to survive for a year before withdrawing winnings.

    I remember back in 2018 I was look for tips for the Grand National and I came across your UA-cam channel. You were saying to look for value instead of who you thought was going to win. I couldn't get me head around this at first, it didn't make any sense. It's sad that so many people are focused on the wrong thing, I feel genuinely sorry for people when I see them walk into a bookie now.

    Great video. I was aware of the affiliation but didn't know they were taking that much.
    All these 10 quid to 10k guys seem to use bets that are like 1.25-1.35 too so they have a better chance of going on a streak. Giving it massive Booms when a 1.3 bet comes in!
    Noticed a lot of the dodgy Twitter tipsters with no public records are linked too and have the same followers all joining in with the booms to create the impression that have tons of people following their tips when in reality they are more than likely fake accounts made by themselves.

    Great stuff as usual Caan. It was far more transparent in the old days, when punters had to phone premium phone lines for tips. I had a colleague who'd be on a 50p per minute Tipping Line every morning for 6 or 7 minutes. Here’s the challenge then: How do we make the exchanges more popular and break down the misconceptions so many mug punters still possess on the matter? Be interesting to see some responses. Really good video Caan. I'm sure so many people are not aware of tipsters win no matter what! I used to follow a few (they are shown in your video) but in the end I was losing more with them, than I lost by myself! I did notice with 1 "tipster" that they would post a few easy winners to get the challenge going, then pick a really quiet game with little action and it would lose. Only when I kept noticing this pattern, did I knock all tipsters on the head. I may not be ready to retire to the Bahamas just yet by going it alone, but my losses since are not anywhere near as much by following others.

    Good insightful video about the perils of tipsters and affiliates. I agree with you that exchanges offer better value with their odds but as Betfair have the monopoly you cannot always keep track of your bet as they suspend the markets a lot near the end of a fixture. This may have nothing to do with tipsters but I think it pushes people towards conventional bookmakers as it is made easy for them with the opening offers bookmakers offer. I think tipsters take advantage of people who do not want to do the studying.

    I confess in the past I have been guilty of following these tipsters, L15, BMB 10-1000 challenges and all like you say. But even today with the knowledge like you advise in this video I can't help myself following tips. Of late I just use GYTO horse racing and do there NAP and NB daily. Alas as soon as they publish you rarely get the prices they quote. Alas so many sports book sites do not do BOG until the day itself and again varies from 8-10am depending what sports book. I've also noticed a lot of so called tips drifting out. Unsure if GYTO is like all the rest but I enjoy the read ups. I go up and down following there tips so unsure yet if its a decent strategy but seeing as I know nothing about GG's myself and like to watch races if had a bet need something help me pick. I myself used to just pick names I liked.

    Be interesting to see if there’s a profitable strategy in laying the losing tipsters picks from the daily NAP’s table. Some of those are as much as 40pts down since the start of the flat season.

    • @CaanBerryProTrader
      @CaanBerryProTrader  3 роки тому +4

      The thing is, when you lay you only get to do it at the exchange price. Plus the commission is on total winnings when you do. In most cases you'd still be at a loss. Can't speak for any specific cases as haven't really looked.

    • @Matt-lt1od
      @Matt-lt1od 3 роки тому +1

      NOTINMYARSE ! Yeah I agree mate. Just to clarify I was just hinting at the possibility that it may be possible if you were to use the table as a starting point and then narrowing down selections on your own criteria. I certainly wouldn’t be looking to just lay a 12-1 purely on the basis that someone at the bottom off a NAP table has picked it out.
      I think anyone who trades successfully is well aware that just putting money in the market blindly is a recipie for disaster.

    Hi Caan, so someone like Andy Holding for example is over 100pts in profit this year. So say following his tips even getting worse odds surely you'd still be in profit for the year?

    • @CaanBerryProTrader
      @CaanBerryProTrader  3 роки тому +2

      Who said he's 100pts in profit? Did you get the price recommended on every single one of the selections without fail? This is the point, as lots of other comments have made and people have realised. The prices quoted are like the moon, you can see them, you just can't touch them. Here is a question for you - do you really think OddsChecker is paying any of the tipsters they promote to lose them money? Because if what you say there is true, then that is exactly what they are doing. When someone signs up via their affiliate link and wins money, it's deducted from their affiliate balance that month. So a winning tipster with clickable links will be losing them money, and the bookie money, and you are suggesting the bookie and the platform promoting them is paying a 3rd party to do it? Madness. No offence to any one tipster as it's not a personal thing, it's just explaining the business model for the public. Why shouldn't they know?
      Also, who verifies this 100pts profit? Ohh, yes.... the site with the affiliate links getting revenue from the losses.

    These tipsters can arb out free bets on the exchanges after people have paid for their insight. The best tip I heard from a tipster was to get the fav beat, then you have half a chance of making a profit.

    You can make money through paid tipsters on social media, mainly found on Twitter. You must be strict with how you select them though.
    1. They have a regularly updated public P/L sheet
    2. They only/mostly bet morning prices
    3. Track their tips separately to see if their P/L sheet is accurate, how easily the price is available and how they perform as BSP (extremely rare to find one profitable at BSP)
    4. You will need multiple accounts to be as profitable as them
    5. They have a limit to how members, ideally under 250, meaning prices last for more than a couple of minutes and may still be able to bet on the exchange.

    I believe most people that follow tipsters do so because they don't want to feel responsible for their loss, it's like "I don't want to be responsable for my own failure (or success?)".

      Agree. In parallel, I do trading, not betting; because when I trade, I "declare my loss or win" in my -window of opportunity-, and with betting, it depends on "others"(binary) to get a win or loss at the end. On both I'm responsible, but in trading you exercise "acceptance of loss/win" everytime.

    Hey Caan Berry. Think, it is a grea content, u put out for free. I guess, u "operate" from the uk, since in the EU it isnt possible to use Exchange.
    One question besides: Do u have any experience with the soccer market. I mean, is there a realistic possibility to get his lay bet matched, when u layed against a result in a soccer game? Are there anybody, who is so stupid to back results in a soccer game or is it a dead market?
    Thanks

    The £10 to £100/1000 I play football challenges on twitter are the biggest joke going , ridiculously low odds. That eventually lose. And the bets are based on Inplay stats on a screen of two teams no one has heard of or could have ever been researched. They will " tip " over 0.5 goals based on the fact one team has had 17 shots when in fact they have no idea how close those shots were. And they are trusting the in play stats from the bookies which could be anything there putting ! Plus the BOOMs nd all the cringe that goes with it when 1/5 winner comes in is embarrassing

    I think you would have to be a pretty smart cookie to run a successful affiliate business in relation to betting. The competition is unbelievably fierce. As you show here the biggest players in the industry are direct affiliates with bookmakers from racing post, through to Timeform and the main racing channels. If people are daft enough to follow a tipster on Twitter then I’m pretty sure that they aren’t going to be watching Caan Berry. They would be lazy gamblers looking for a quick fix not dedicating their time to this.

    Im all for exchanges BUT...
    the exchanges also restrict you in a way, of course not by limiting your stake nor anything like that but by premium charges and all that.
    And so if you are a profitable bettor they will impose premium charge on you, initially 20% or even 40% : ) and if you are super profitable that will be 60% (betfair)

    Hi Cann,
    I’m slowly going through the free material you have made available (thank you) with a view to buying your video course. Understandably, and for numerous reasons, your underlying narrative is anti-bookmaker, with your preference being to trade on Betting Exchanges. However, you must also of had a successful Bookmaker career as you have posted videos mentioning that you’ve had numerous accounts restricted with different Bookmakers because of success.
    It seems that the key to your Betting Exchange success has been the ability to back and lay a trades, which enables you to take advantage of various trading strategies (Scalping, Swing, Bet to Lay, Lay to Bet etc) which are not available when dealing with Bookmakers because ‘laying’ is not possible.
    As I understand it, this would mean that your Bookmaker success has been down to variants of place betting? If so, I am curious to know why, given your notable Bookmaker success coupled with the benefits of Betting Exchanges, you don’t mention any place betting strategies for exchange betting?
    Any response would be gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks and keep up the good work !

    I find with horse racing I make a steady profit throughout the year but it all comes together at cheltenham when I’ve backed antepost and then hedge my bets on the day. Wouldn’t go near any tipsters but I do respect upping the ante with David Jennings and Gavin lynch, I also like cheltmental Facebook page but he doesn’t provide tips just offers an opinion and better information which helps make a better end decision

      Caan Berry Pro Trader I don’t stake large amounts per bet but tend to use yankees (£5.50) as the main bet type but has worked really well the last two years & juggle between 4 bookmakers- agree about the tipsters points , for me I’m disciplined but I can easily see how people fall down the slippery slope and tipsters can’t be helping

    There are reliable tipsters, but they aren't free, also they don't offer cheap subscriptions. And to add a reason why it's not a good idea to have a tipster is you are trusting your money to someone else, unless you are already a profitable bettor with a nice volume in bets and you want to have some extra bets each month with a paid tipster. Personally I don't follow any tipster, most of my bets are in the place market in the exchanges and trading the winner only market, so I have no space for following someone's bets, losing or earning money by your own feels better than losing/earning because of someone else

    You're being very generalist here, but I understand why you take that view. It certain is true, the vast majority of tipsters rely on a simple thing, quoting top prices. Often prices that cannot be obtained. Let me give you an example, if you tip every favourite on any days racing, and you were able to 'tip' it at the top price it was available during the day (even just with bookmakers not necessarily the betfair price) and couple it with BOG, you'll make a profit long-term. And a decent profit, probably with my experience I'd guess around 10%. The reasons they give for the selection is totally irrelevant. It's a numbers game. However there ARE successful tipsters, they're few and far between. The normal question is why would they give away their edge as even if they're inevitably banned from bookmakers, they could make money on exchanges like betfair? The answer is because a lot of these gamblers want to off-set their own risk by passing on their knowledge after they've placed their own bets at larger prices. Also, think about it logically. If you knew you were really good at evaluating value, what is to stop you placing large bets on betfair (as large as the market will allow early-on) and then after passing on your bet to the general public, laying off the bets at a lower price, therefore completely eliminating your risk. But again I'm talking of genuinely profitable tipsters who have big followings, and these are admittedly few and far between.

    The people that never lose are the people that are tucked up in bed with bookmakers or casinos.
    The introduction of the ''lay bet'' I feel was a massive mistake for the bread & butter gambler, it's extremely easy for a trainer to send a horse out that he or she knows isn't race fit, that horse is then easy for people connected / in the know to then lay it with full confidence it will get beat.
