    Vevor Tools sent me this budget pottery wheel to try out and review. This was a blast to do and thank you to Vevor Tools for sending this. This wheel could be used for beginners, teaching, hobbyists and who knows .. I haven't used it enough to say it can be used for production. For anyone that wants to try out pottery at home and not take a course and learn from us potters here on UA-cam this might be the wheel for you. Please keep in mind that a wheel isn't everything you need to make pottery you would also need a kiln to complete our pieces. Thanks so much to all for watching.

    Yes, Ben, it would be interesting to see you throw the largest pot that the wheel can take.

    Thank you for this video. I wanted to learn pottery and bought one 3 days ago. Haven't made anything yet since I am learning and centering, and not having it slip off is taking time. It shows max payload is 5 kilos. Anyway, thanks for making me feel more confident in my purchase.

      @@carrielugo5349 Nice! Thanks for watching. If the clay is slipping off the wheel I would suggest making sure the wheel head is not very wet when you throw the clay onto it😀 you can do it! Best of luck on your pottery journey Thank you again :)

    .In the shop you need extra wheels to turn at a slow speed while fan drying the lower half of a big pot say 36 pounds (as the lower half of a 60 pounder joined pot) . You make a batch of lowers that need to be fan dried while you get the upper half made for each one of the lowers that has dried enough to take the joining .. .Even if this little wheel can't throw the 36 pounders it would be a blast if they could at least turn a 36 pound pot at a slow speed while being fan dryed . THe wheel's small size would be a plus in that aplication .. Also it is a great size for taking to a demonstration ...It would want to throw a 6 to 10 pounder for that and it is rated for 17 pounds on line ...... All right Ben ...

      @@guywolff I’ll put a box of clay on it and see if it doesn’t break. Feel like it will hurt it for sure ..this is a very small wheel. Good thing I have 3 other wheels for that application. Yes I forgot to mention bringing it to demos after I filmed this I went oh yea duh 😂 Really feel like it will burn out on 6lbs+ on a production scale but who knows.

    Yep, wanna see more about this wheel. I throw between 1 and 10 lbs on a regular basis. I do a lot of off the hump throwing as well. Would love to know how this handles without the splash pans and a bigger bat to make plates etc.

    As a lot of us know, bigger isn’t always better but it sure would be fun to see you throw a mega pot on that wheel to see how much it can handle. Thanks for all your tips and I LOVE MY POT THAT YOU MADE (it’s currently proudly displayed on our mantle), and hope to eventually have one made by your dad. 🪴 PS- I adore you and your dad’s sense of humour…the world definitely needs more laughter❣️

    I bought one of these wheels except mine has extended legs but I still had to raise it up a bit. I'm just a beginner and had seen several potters review it as a good low budget beginning wheel. I have yet to throw anything above 1.5 pounds but did see one guy throw 8 pounds on it successfully.

    I’ve been taking throwing classes for two years and would consider myself “intermediate.” I’m going to invest in a wheel (and all the other home studio things - the rabbit hole is deep!). My studio uses Pacifica wheels (gt400), Brent’s are a classic standard, and you (and other folks who sell pottery) use a Shimpo. Varied pricing, I know, but I’m prepared to invest if it’s worth it. Any opinion on brand based on experience?

    • @benwolffpottery
      @benwolffpottery  Місяць тому

      @@laurawilkinson2629 Nice! best of luck to you on your pottery journey 😀😀 Honestly my go to have been the shimpo rk and have no complaints with those as they have lasted me 25+ years. I have thrown on Brent’s at demonstrations and they are really great too. I stand up while throwing so the hand crank for rpm is why I love the shimpo and the quietness. This little wheel I tested is great but I have no idea the longevity of it 🤷🏻‍♂️😀👍

    It was free... try putting enough clay on it to break it. See if ya can. In my limited experience Vevor is the top tier of budget brands. My stuff was a good value. About 75% the quality of industry leader tools for about 40% the cost.
