- Pilots receive briefing while being transferred to airfield in ancient RAF bus; final preparation and take-off; in flight. Aircraft plotted by ops room. Landing and Debriefing.
The role of RAF Strike Command: Nimrod aircraft (XV235) seen on runway, in flight and scanning for ship at sea. Interior shots. Air Support Command in action, transporting troops from RAF Brize Norton (aircraft XR383 and VX104) to another airfield (night landing). Supplies and troops (Scottish) disembark. Hercules aircraft fly in tactical formation, practising support role for taking matériel and troops behind enemy lines.
Whirlwind helicopters land troops. A Hercules pilot speaks about careers in the RAF and stresses the thoroughness of training.
Then a sequence of Phantom flight simulator follows. Men from the various commands describe why they are pilots and why they enjoy it. Film ends by stressing the virtues of service life: there is a comradeship in the RAF which is not found outside of the Armed Forces

Love it, comradery to the vintage best. Unfortunately the RAF of new is far from this nostalgic propaganda.
Now that put a tear in my eye ,,,,ex 54 sqd armourer 1971/73 ...loved it ....A big cheer at 17.20👍👍👍👍
Love the livery of the phantoms of the early 70s...Great seeing these films put out for mainstream viewing....thank heavens for utube
I signed up for Queen & Country in 1976 a boy entrant apprentice at RAF Halton. THIS is my era. Back then 108,000 staff - today - 30,000😮 My first posting was Brize working on the last of the Belfasts and 7 years on the mighty Queen of The Skies the VC10 (when they were all painted the PROPER colours - not the awful 'sick grey') Happy Days
That guy saying that it was all about a radar and a linked missile system. Clearly the Americans in Vietnam had a different thought when they started putting gun pods on the F4
“Personally I like flying upside down (inverted), which you can’t do in an airliner.”😆
I love the ending :)
Thanks.
I’ve got a 19plate 3door best car I ever bought new still have 4.5 years later
@1808, Ken macallum if I'm not mistaken
I believe DR. Mark Felton used some of this footage on his video for the 1982 RAF Jaguar incident.
you mean bullshitter felton?
Mark Felon
@@jukeseyable Whats the downer with Mark Felton?
Bit different from 1966!
Looking at those roundels
this has to be prior to 1973
Could well be, we only have the dates that the films were completed unfortunately 👍
2:30 safety tags in place ???
Good pair of eyes! 😲
cos the flems didn't get a look in. Also they seem to have developed a way of fitting fletcher tanks inflght!
…and 1:47 checking BLC with no engines running 😂
So I can see in hine sight where all the North Sea oil revenue was spent............ Empty treasury now.
Nothing but the best…
RAF and RAAF F-4s had much less powerful engines than the F-4s flown by the USAF, USN, USMC, NASA, Luftwaffe, JSDAF, and the air forces of Iran, Israel and South Korea.
Flying suits with shirt and tie…
standards must be upheld :)
MCS Westinghouse Radar, a bag of nails to maintain….
@@josephlambe2796 Yeap, spent many a night chasing birdies and doing pack changes to come in on the next shift to do it all again 😖👍
