We are now on day 89 of my journey to a 2000 rapid rating online on chess.com. Time to shake off the ring rust!
About me: I'm Farzy, a Chess.com partnered streamer and freestyle rapper who is on a quest to get better at chess! I've been streaming chess on Twitch for about a year, and have started to play over-the-board classical chess tournaments in the summer of 2024. I hope to grow as a player both online and OTB, and I hope my viewers can join me for the ride :) - Ігри
GAME 1
0:38 We got a Petrov defense with Nf6! And you transposed back to the classic 4 knights !
I don't know if you always do that against the Petrov?
It's fine tho but there are other possibilities of course !
1:01 amazing start !
1:20 Qf4 here seems to allow Nh5 with tempo on the queen, but then Qf3 is a fork of his knight and his a8 rook !!
But Qd1 is also great ! The only other winning move !
1:57 amazing position YEP !
2:17 The material is equal so if you want to keep your advantage you have to act now !!
I you give them too much they will consolidate, develop and castle and your advantage would be gone !
Qg4 brings the queen with tempo and makes it akward for black to defend, + it opens your light square bishop, + it controls g5 to play Bg5 and developing that dark square bishop more actively and with tempo !
2:48 Here black is castling next move ! With such a great position you have to try to stop them or make it bad by preparing a huge attack !
Nf6+ would have been very nice !
5:31 c4 does not put any pressure to black. After O-O you are barely better (you are but compared to before not so much !)
5:39 I still like your position too ! But black has no problem with pieces being out to great squares etc. They will play castle and d6 at some point and you center will soon not be so strong.
5:51 My advice for you on that topic :
PUSH PAWNS:
- when it restricts the opponent movement / space
- when it opens lines (or free squares) for YOUR pieces
DON'T PUSH PAWNS:
- if it opens lines for your opponent's pieces
- if it creates weaknesses that can be exploited easily
I mean there is a lot more to this.
BUT in this case :
of course if dxe6 dxe6 you opened your rook !
But fxe6 opens his rook ! And whenever you take back you also open his light square bishop ! Black has then 2 strong bishops on the open board ! While your bishop is still stuck on f1.
6:55 yeah this is pretty tough then !
7:27 that's why you never resign ! Here it's tough to find and hold but there are often ways to comeback even very bad positions !
GAME 2
9:29 The Vienna !
Btw here it matters what knight you develop 1st because if Nf6 1st they might play f4 the Vienna gambit ! Which you should meet with d5 !
9:39 This is fine too !
Here I would neveeeer go d6, way too passive imo !
Na5 is possible yes, but also just move that dark square bishop out before playing d6 !
Both Bc5 and Bb4 are possible !
I like Bc5 because if they play f4 you have your bishop on a very annoying diagonal already ! And if they don't probably Nf3 will be played and it's just a standard italian!
10:19 yeah it's pretty passive. I don't like that way of playing the opening.
You are spending like 3 moves (d6 Be6 Bxbishop) to trade 1 pair of bishops while white makes improvements !
Also you blocked in your own bishop with d6 and you are trading your good bishop (opposite color of most your pawns)
11:12 here it's too early for d5..
If yoi develop castle bring your rook to the center, then d5 is a great plan for sure !
Here you lose stability in the center, when you recapture e5 with your knight you can get kicked around while white builds a nice center !
11:49 honnestly I thought it was a free pawn too 😂😂
Yeah always be careful with the open e file when your king in the center !
Qe2 is usually met with Qe7 but here your queen has another job after Nxd5...
Tough game ..
I think the passive opening was the main problem here tho !
GAME 3
13:52 Najdorf sicilian Yep !
14:24 With g6 I like to call this the Dragondorf sicilian 😂 (a mix between the Najdorf and the dragon)
14:46 Ng4 not too scary but quite annoying !
I really like to have my dark square bishop in these positions, to trade it for his bishop and try to attack his king on the dark squares !
So yes it's best to keep that bishop, and if you have the chance, play f3 to prevent Ng4 ! Very common move in these positions !
15:40 Yes h4 !!
Opposite side castling = pawn storm to open files for your pieces to his king !!
e5 is not great...
your pawn on e5 will be very very weak, your are most likely losing it by force already..
Also it doesn't cause any problem for black.. there is not knight on f6 that is moving around...
AND when you attack on 1 side (which you should do with h4) the best for the opponent is very often to strike in the center ! And here you are opening the center for him ...
16:34 But omg they played d5 !
NOW attacking on the side is much much stronger with a locked center !
Also now your pawns are strong and block his bishop !!
16:46 keep your strong pawns there, don't play e6 and give away your center pawn while opening up his bishop...
17:23 this is tough, Be2 looks very normal...
17:36 here you should see that d4 is coming tho !
GAME 4
19:05 e6 b6 ! The Owen's defense !
I've started to play this, very fun opening to play !
19:43 I would have gone Bb4 as black to put more pressure into e4 ! It leads to very cool lines !
g6 is very weakening yep...
20:44 black is completely lost and they spend only 12 seconds... well deserved I would say 😂😂
Then pretty clean conversion ! (Except for the missed M1s 😂)
GAME 5
24:48 scotch game !
I don't have much to say 😅 pretty clean normal game until
29:31 they botez gambit and resigned 😅
Well done !
GAME 6
30:49 Vienna again !
I already talked about that opening where I don't like that d6 Be6 idea.
31:12 Here the reason you can play d5 (and couldn't on game 1) is because they didn't play f4 so there is no pressure on e5!
31:35 I used to do that too ! Playing Bg4 before f5 comes. But if your bishop is not doing anything useful after h6 you are just losing time for nothing...
Here you could play b5 and trade your bishop for his bishop ! (Instead of trading a knight)
34:03 Nh4 and there is no way to defend e4 anymore ! But this is tough to see in my opinion !
36:01 ahah what a crazy sequence ! Beautiful !!
39:28 This is probably the 1st move I will consider 😂😂 sac to bring all the pieces to the attack !
BUT this is very dangerous as then f7 is not defended anymore ! So you need to keep attacking with tempo because of the mate threats !
43:44 wild game for real !
GGs
That was fun !
Well, this is the craziest chess stuff i saw on youtube
I have no idea how to count these games, I was counting one game per one day and when there was more than one game I was counting the first one, but here we have six games and I think I shouldn't count only one game because you scored three losses and three wins but for the other hand I shouldn't count all six games on one day because one game (one point to statistics) per day. What should I do?
I would count every game, but I'm not sure I understood the problem with that 😅
It's not your fault that Lazy Farzy played just 1 game per day.
