You are totally correct Paul. Guy won the first Australian Idol in 2003, he was also a judge on X Factor and now has been a judge on The Voice Australia for about 6 years. His mentoring is priceless... Plus still writing number one hits etc Doing all his charity fundraising for his The Sebastian Foundation. Guy was known as The Fro when he first appeared on Idol as he had this enormous Fro lol. His first audition one judge told him he loved his voice but he looked like crap. He was a very shy young man and just smiled... He grew up singing in a choir at church...at school he did sing at assembly in front of the whole school...and had his eyes closed the whole time but then he didn't hear any applause he opened his eyes to see most of the teachers crying...then a thunderous applause... He was always told he had a great voice but didn't have the 'look' BIG MISTAKE! haha
You got it right. Guy won the first Australian Idol back in 2003. Before that he was a music teacher in Adelaide and sported an Afro. He looked a lot different. He's had many no 1 albums and top hits since then and is now a judge on The Voice. He's also one of the best singer/songwriters on the planet, but remains a very down to earth person.
I'll share with you my street experience. In Town Hall I walked past him and said to myself wait, what!?! So I had to say hi. His response will always stay with me as he was so humble. Appreciated my family being fans and he left with his autograph in my hand to pass on to my Cousin. His partner also allowed for him to spend a minute or two with me.
Guy used to come into my work (law firm in Adelaide) regularly before Idol as my boss was his mentor. One day he brought in a recording of him singing. My boss asked me to come in and listen after Guy left. He said that his girlfriend was trying to talk him into auditioning but he didn't feel like he was good enough. His girlfriend is now his wife.
I think you figured it out but Guy is a judge not a contestant on the Voice. He has had more number one singles than any other male artist in Australian music history. He’s performed for the Pope, and Queen Elizabeth II. Yes he was once on a singing comp but that was over 20 years ago, he’s a superstar in this video! ❤
Hi ya Doc....He not only performed for the Pope his song 'Receive The Power' was chosen as the official song for World Youth Day. and he sang it live in front of the Pope and televised to many millions of Christians world wide. Paulini also sung it with him.
Oh I was watching this the other day, Anthea. Great choice. Thanks guys. Jessica Mauboy, Paul. This was the best group of judges I think. 3 Aussies and the lovely Rita Ora. ❤❤ I was watching some of his Idol performances recently. 😍😍
Hi guys!! Awesome reaction. I will try to resource Guy's humble beginnings on Australian Idol. He was a youngster then with a Fro so that's why he wasnt well known in Australia before then...
Awesome Anthea......I did mention to Paul that one judge on Idol told Guy he had a great voice but looked like crap....lol but Dicko was made to eat his words hahah.
Guy had a huge Afro. He was in Adelaide and tried out for idol and everyone knew he was going to win, he has had a great career and is a household name Jessica Mauboy is also a judge. Jessica is an aboriginal woman who was runner up on idol in 2009 and is a sensational singer

The judges on The Voice Australia have a highlighted performance on The Voice, this was one of those, a judge performance.
