Sleeping Gods is the only game I started and couldnt help but play solo to the end. I enjoyed it so much I backed the SLeeping Gods: Distant skies. This video has done so well! I love the broll in your vids and your narration.
Hey boss! Thanks for making this list - some games here I've not even heard of (Dawn of Zeds), or thought of playing solo (Archipelago). The latter's a favorite among my crew, gonna have to try that solo version out.
I love your voice so much, your speech and your unique way of talking to us about games. thank you for this top of awesome games on which, for the most part, I have already spent some memorable moments. kisses from France. subscriber.
Mystic Vale is a card crafting game that I have been playing solo off and on for years. The recent Nemesis expansion has an official solo version finally. Proving Grounds is a good solo cars & dice game. Combat with a good mechanic. Just right for killing 20-30 minutes. Star Fleet Battle Force is good solo as well. Unfortunately I only have my solo hus rules. Any muppet can digure out how to play solo. Especially against the space dragon , base or dreadnaught. Cheers🍻Skål
Love your videos, man. Great stuff. Yeah, I had Death Angel. It was fun, but frustrating. I could never win. It was just too hard. Then you had the Deathwing expansion, that was even harder. lol. Once I noticed it was worth 5 times what I paid for it, off to eBay it went.
I got the Star Trek Frontiers game that uses Mage Knight rules, but was immediately hampered by a lack of space. That has since been rectified. I still need to get Mage Knight, though.
Very good choices. One of my favorite solo series is the Leader series from DVG. I have Corsair Leader and Thunderbolt/Apache Leader. Corsair Leader is a WWII mission planning game. Quite innovative and challenging. Check these out.
Bloody good list. I agree with 6 out 10. Pleasantly Surprised to see Space Hulk in the list. I feel like I haven’t heard anyone talk about it in nigh forever. The game has the feel of Nemesis without all the setup. Going to have to fish out my copy and get it to the table. And with Arkham horror LCG you didn’t even mention that if you are playing a campaign your characters level up over time somewhat like in an RPG.
@@BoardGameBollocks same for me, I also start with fresh characters each campaign, but the characters “level up” over the campaign as they get experience and cycle new cards into their deck.
Managed to pick up a affordable (No kidneys were involved) copy with a couple of expansions. Have played it 3 times, only beat it once. Decent game, punishing in a good way. Will try out expansions and see if its a keeper.
I reckon a few of us have had no choice but play solo the last year or so - good list mate. Anything co-op is usually good solo for me - Pandemic is much better solo I think. Coffee Roaster and Bloody Inn are another couple of good little games if you’re stuck on your todd.
I keep thinking about trying Gloomhaven, because i love MoM and Betrayal's sense of exploration, but those uninspired hex tiles are where it loses me. Don't have the patience to learn how to become a DM so I think i'll check out Mage Knight. :)
Funny that you brought up being upset about getting rid of Arkham Horror 2E to get 3E. I traded my copy of AH2E and multiple expansions for Robinson Crusoe, now I am searching for Arkham Horror again 😆
Got to admit I'm almost confused not seeing Spirit Island in a top solo list. But it has some less-mentioned games I'm not used to see in top lists, interesting !
Absolutely love / hate Robinson Crusoe in equal measure. My 18 yr old son and I have played it a dozen or so times and have only beaten it twice. Many times we thought victory was in sight, only to be simultaneously f***ed by the weather, event card and bad roll. It's tough, merciless and frustrating. But that makes the wins taste so damn sweet. Highly recommended. (Ricky Royal has also done an excellent walk through, if you're having problems with the crap rule book)
I have a vague memory of you mentioning that Spirit Island is up there with Mage Knight as a solo game. Would you say that Spirit Island would be number 2 if you remade the list today or would Arkham Horror LCG still have that spot? Looking to extend my solo games shelf as my fiancé more often than not refuse to play with me. 😅
My opinions change as the facts change so it would probably make the list. I got rid of my entire AHTCG collection recently. Not because it’s crap but because it was a money pit that was taking up too much space…plus I needed a new fridge 😐
@@BoardGameBollocks oh it's best solo. Honestly I look at it as solo only game. In my book it does stuff better than Robinson, but the fact I survived the siege of Sarajevo possibly have to do something with me having a strange relationship with the game.
@@BoardGameBollocks again terrible KS campaign took away from what was a really good solo dungeon crawler, check out some of Two Gun Pixie Playthroughs on it. Fantasy theme dungeon crawler
No love for Terraforming Mars? I find the solo mode outstanding. Very challenging, but it does not seem unfair. You always barely win or are just a few moves short.
@@BoardGameBollocks I prefer it multiplayer too, but I don't see how that excludes it from this list, when the solo mode is really really good too. Give it a try!
I had onirim. Sold it because it sucks. Too many variants but always the same endless shuffling. I had Space Hulk Death Angel. Sold it because it sucks. It’s not the die, it’s the endless scouring of the game board because there’s all these cards with little bits of text on them, and the rulebook has no answers either. Tiring exercise, and massively overhyped on bgg.
I have not played Gloomhaven. Or Scythe or most of the games listed, which makes me ‘a bit of a dick’. Actually that is true, how did you know? No wargames here? I find that they often make good solo exercises (for me) and I particularly enjoy the products of Hollandspiele available in the UK as print and play via Wargames Vault, eg the Horse and Musket system and the Swords and Shields system games.
I don't get why all these board game critics'are so upset about colonial times. We wouldn't have the modern world if our ancestors hadn't gone out and pushed technology to explore the world. Gotta be proud of the empire.
It’s a complex subject that I don’t pretend to understand therefore im not qualified to have an opinion on it tbh. Many of my favourite games have that theme and ill continue to play them regardless of what a few people think. If it’s a good game it deserves to be played.

Yes!!! Loved playing Archipelago solo over the pandemic and excited to play multiplayer again! Definitely doesn’t get enough praise now a days.

My own small list:
1. A Feast for Odin
2. Scythe
3. Wingspan
4. Everdell
5. On Mars
I’d like to try On Mars but it’s so expensive I’d need to become a drugs mule or something
Oi!!!! Great list there mate!

Best thumbnail of all board game review videos.
Nothing personal…honest
Me: Always sad as fuck and have no mates to play with. Perfect video!
Just don't start drinking till you pass out. Instead, play a solo game of Scythe!
Can’t get pissed on water so I’m safe 👍🏻
Thank Jebus for closed captions.
