Great channel. Rode in Europe recently. I'm amazed at how most of thier horses are finished out at 6 years knowing all High level movements but in America we wait forever to teach . Which makes it harder for an older horse to learn. 😕
It also keeps them sounder longer when they aren’t pushed as hard and fast at such young ages. Some horses are more naturally going and quick to learn but I think it’s also easy to over push something that is so willing and break it. Many of the young horses you see at the big shows are never to be seen again when they are older because they are broken either in mind or body.
Could you continue to do more helpful videos like this on the rider biomechanics of the other movements like shoulder in/ haunches in & out, leg yield, turn on the forehand/haunches, rein back? And even the rider biomechanics for correctly riding the walk, posting trot, canter, and circles/turns/corners?? I think there’s a lot of details that are always misunderstood or completely missed when teaching even some of the Basic fundamentals. Thank you
We have made a canter and shoulder in video, and finishing up a walk video now. I will add these to our list of videos we plan to make in the coming weeks!
Starting with shoulder in, and collection, being able to carry themselves pushing from behind so their shoulders are free to move. Shoulder in helps engage the hind legs (not a leg yield) and lifts the shoulders so that would be a starting point, Leif had a couple videos on shoulder in making sure it is not actually just a leg yield on a straight line.
