I agree it’s a blessing in disguise that these “big” players are injured. Those who don’t play ranji should be excluded from test cricket. Period.
BCCI ek aisa contract banao 5 years ke liye, ki players jo IPL ya phir white ball cricket ko zyada importance dete hain aur bahane bana ke test cricket nahin khelte unhe kabhi test cricket mat khilao, get a pool of best test players from country and let them play test cricket only. Also once in a contract for 5 years, those test players should not be allowed to play ipl or white ball cricket ,if some one break test cricket contract by playing ipl or white ball cricket then that player be banned for life. With this approach you will get players who want to play for country over a period of time and those players will be ready to perform. Also such test players pool should be given good money by BCCI at par with white ball players to keep them motivated to perform for this test cricket sport. Test cricket ke liye test cricket temperament wale hi players lekar aaiye Hindustan ke liye khelne ke liye. Test player one day aur t20 nahin khele aur t20 one day player test nahin khele. Knowing Rahul Dravid, even if the youngsters are coming in left and right, he may opt for the same old defensive team, not minding if he gets repeated spanking in the rear. Let me put his team together...Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill, Patidar, Bharat, Axar, Sarfraz (without KL), Jadeja, Ashwin, Kuldeep, Bumrah, Siraj. The others like Jurel, Padikal, and Akash will be bench warmers and drinks carriers. These guys may find luck with the media and public demand for them to be in the 11 if at all. Perhaps Jurel comes in place of Bharat through public demand. So, this is perhaps the team you are looking at. I would place Akash in place of Siraj and Sundar in place of Kuldeep to up the batting depth as well. Kuldeep may get hammered in Rajkot. England will highly depend on their batting abilities and going after spinners. There is a big chance this game could be a draw Bazball or not. Expect a few tons from both sides.

Feel very bad for both Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. The old Veterans who guarded the fort many a times when India were in a cruch situation, and not only they saved India but also they won us games many a times from litreally jaws of defeat.
I genuinly thought, since Virat Kohli wasn't available for this test series and also there are many injured/out of form players, it would have been better had we selected either Pujara or Rahane (or both) atleast for the series against England, but I dont know what's this stubbornness of BCCI and team management that they don't go back to these guys (however in T20's and also in ODI's they already did so by picking up Ashwin). 😢😞😤😤

The thing is all wanted to play IPL and T20 cricket in general, so much so that for a tournament which is almost 1-1.5 months later they have started preperation 15 days ago only. Yet the irony is that, we stands nowhere among top T20 sides. Its not just that we didn't been able to win tournaments, its that that we never looked like the contender to do so. In 2014 and 2016 Virat Kohli single single-handedly carried India on his shoulders. In 2021 we got exposed. And in 2022 we rode on the wave of Virat and SKY (to an extent) to reach SF in a paltey league where in two of big games we lost in one comprehensively (against SA) and won by a narrow margin in one that too coz of a miracle by VK (against Pakistan). Apart from that, we had to play against minnows in that league stage and even there we struggled against Bangladesh.
And later, we got exposed against England in SF. 😂😂
My point is simple. Even though you are priortizing T20's, where the heck is performance esp in ICC tournaments? 😑😠😠😠

Why doesn't BCCI have an incentive program that awards 20cr additional prize to someone that plays say 10 tests for India in a year. That way it beats the IPL prize bounty and also gives you that pool of players who want to play test cricket and get the money so will not be distracted by the IPL

Virat kohli wants to play T20 world cup this year held in westindies and usa so only he wants to keep himself fresh mentally and physically for IPL so that he can score tons of runs in IPL and get selected for T20 world cup
Also he knows that there is lot of competition among youngsters in the T20 side so if he wants to be in that T20 side then IPL is the only platform to get into T20 side he knows that and recently many senior indian players made a comeback to T20 side even played T20 world cup through IPL performances
So in the name of personal reasons he is not playing the on going Test series since this is a long test series which ends on march 11th and there will be just 10days gap before IPL season starts so he took break from this test series in the name of personal reasons hence i feel this might be the reason for not playing the ongoing test series
Fitness injury and form are not the concerns for virat since he is the only fit cricketer in the current indian team also he is in a decent form too
The other cricketers like shreyas iyer, kl rahul ,jadeja are not totally fit if they are not fit then not only this series but even IPL they shouldn't play so that they get a long break for recovery and rehabilitation after which they should play domestic cricket and then they should make it into the national side which will not happen these guys who are not fit now will be declared fit by their IPL franchise owners and physios and will be made ready to play IPL
Fit for playing IPL but not fit while playing for india this is not a good sign
Ishan kishan is following the foot steps of Pandya brothers who are more interested in this cash rich league and not interested in playing for country

Each player needs to play set number of Ranji matches to be eligible for IPL. And maybe the profit share to the franchise needs to be graded based on the compliance with the domestic cricket participation. BCCI needs to show who is the boss and get franchise on board to look at the bigger picture. Even business in country have to abide by regulations set by government so franchise is no different. If BCCI shows intent it will be enforceable, else BCCI would be a dummy or proxy body soon.
India is only country where fans & experts abuse their country biggest brand everyday. It's not IPL fault that bcci a private company has become a clown & spineless institution where there is no rules & regulations. Anyone can do whatever they want. Players have been allowed to take decisions on their own abt when they will play/ how much they will play/ where they will play/which format they will play/ when they need rest etc etc...
