  • We applied for the Fiance/K1 Visa in 2019 and have been documenting the application process to help provide an accurate timeline for the K1 visa for other applicants. As a background, Martin is applying for a K1 visa as a Mexican citizen. In this video we will provide you information on what you need to apply for a k1 visa, how long it takes a K1 visa to be approved in 2020, and how we have been dealing with the K1 visa during the uncertainty of 2020.

I don't know if you respond to viewers but I have 2 questions. Do you think the process would be any better if I used an imigration lawyer to process the paperwork? And how did you get into Mexico? As I thought international travel was banned. Thank you. And good luck!
P.S I was scheduled to visit my girlfriend for the first time in March so we could get engaged but the virus put a stop to that. She is in Columbia and they have very strict travel ban.

@@satchemo24 I don't think a lawyer really helps. It makes it more expensive and really all they do is make sure your paperwork is filled out correctly. When I tried to find a lawyer they were just going to check my forms and then I would have to send them myself. I tried to get a lawyer 3 times and all they did was delay me applying because they said they were going to take my case and then didn't after a month of back and forth with each one. I gave up on a response from the third one and just started to do them myself. It took me about 2 months to fill out my paperwork and compile all the necessary evidence because I was not living in the usa at the time. I had to handwrite everything because the form didn't let me type in foreign addresses (too long). Our form wound up being 50 pages and they say to make a copy of everything so I did 100 pages by hand. Our I129f was almost 2 pounds because of the length of the form and the amount of evidence we submitted. I was so stressed out that I was even filling out forms in my dreams... On the plus side, all the forms after that have been easy by comparison though still long because of all the evidence required.

@@bidgig7532 lol. Yeah. We sent our paperwork in in August of 2019... so we should've had our interview in March 2020. We're currently up to our 4th consulate/embassy interview date. Because of covid19 our date has been delayed once and canceled twice after that. Fourth time's a charm, right?

There is hope. We started in October. 2019, i129 approved in February. Then sent to nvc. Then nvc sent to Japan embassy. We filled out ds160 then Interview scheduled for March 30 was cancelled due to covid. She finally got an interview October 14th. She was approved pending a new medical exam and getting police record from her native Peru (she was a 20 year Japanese resident) police record is only good for 3 months. Getting that document was an ordeal.4 trips to different Peruvian agencies, in Japan and Peru Documents in spanish had to be translated to English. She had to have a Spanish. interpreter at the interview.. When the embassy got the documents they issued the visa.
Finally! So. Keep on top of things and good luck.

I was excited to learn that our application was sent through the CA offices, I'd heard from my attorney that CA was the quickest. Then the whole thing came to a screeching a halt. Hey I’m in the same boat you are. My fiancé is from South Korea. We filed the I-129f in January 2020 and got the NOA1 on like the first day of February 2020. Then we waited like 7 months until finally getting the approval notice (form I-797) in August 2020. Now we are waiting to receive a case number from the NVC...still no response and it’s been a month since receiving the approval. I sent them an email only to be greeted by an automatic email response telling me to send an inquiry to the government website specifically. I did that and am now waiting to here back. Screw COVID-19 because I have a feeling this will be postponed a long time and we’ve been waiting so long already. Good luck with everything I know the struggle and you have been waiting longer than we have. My fiance also quit her job and is now jobless because we were supposed to be married by now etc. please let me know any updates on your situation and I will do the same!

I’m a US citizen and fiancée is Norwegian citizen. It’s quite frustrating having an approved K1 visa and not having any means for her to come into the country. Worse not having any direction forward due to offices. We took a gamble and decided to wait until June to marry so she could finish her school . With Rona it’s spoiled all our plans. Now we are forced to ask for an extension July 28th and pay more fees. Quite depressing. Hopefully works out for everyone!

Hello, thanks for the video, I would like to ask you about a K-1 visa appointment. My fiancé/petitioner is in the US and I received a letter from the NVC saying The NVC received your fiancé (e)’s/spouse’s approved I-129F petition from USCIS. NVC will now forward the petition to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate (the status is Ready on CEAC now). The U.S. Embassy or Consulate will contact your fiancé (e)/spouse when they are ready to process his or her petition.
    So, my question is does this means that;
    1. we have to wait for another mail/email from NVC/embassy to fill Ds-160 and schedule an appointment
    2. Or should we directly fill out the DS-160 and schedule an appointment?
    Thank you in advance

In the same boat with Turkey.
Got our noa2 jan 31st. Been ready with paperwork since mid March but no dates were available. Dates have been canceled since mid March. First available interview date was june 1st, which was canceled a week before through text while my fiancé was at his medical appointment. They rescheduled it to july 6th. Then they canceled it. We had to wait for appointments to open up. Applied for one in August. We're hoping it will actually be the interview date, but who knows?
I can't keep going back to Turkey (in general) because I can't work there (I've been living there 50/50 throughout the past couple of years and then coming back to the usa to make money) so I'm staying here right now and also it's really irresponsible to be traveling internationally right now because of our high infection rates in the usa. A lot of countries have even banned us from coming because of our shitty response to the pandemic. I left Turkey end of November. Haven't seen my fiancé since then. :-(
Hopefully all of us couples will be together and be married soon. Though we probably won't get actual wedding parties or be able to share our ceremonies and things, at least we'll be together. One day.
Also, holy shit on the employment thing. I thought the employment authorization took 3 months. Where did you read that it takes that long? Is that new because of trump's new immigrant ban? (Green cards will probably take a lot longer because of that too and the fact that uscis has furloughed like 70% of its staff). Anything through the uscis is going to take longer because of that.
    Good luck!

Oh wow! That’s AWFUL! You were sooo close to doing the interview, I can’t believe it was canceled right in the middle of the medical! I’m so sorry :(
Yeah I totally agree. I’m happy I can relocate to Mexico for 6 months, but I know others definitely aren’t that lucky!! I’m so sorry you guys are apart :/
Before the pandemic I was checking the wait time for employment authorization and it was around 6 months. We also know a few people who have gone through the process that reported similar wait times. There is already SUCH. a bit backlog, and the pandemic is only going to make it worse sadly.

What about the Income source for the US Citizen. Like you had to show the income and some savings to them. May I know how much as California USCIS center didn't Disclose any direct statement. But the petition and interview is the hardest step. Some couple get in done in 5 months with a relationship of 1 year or less, but sometimes some have more than 3 years of relationship but they Don't get it... Also, can you tell me if you had to show the screenshot of chats or just pics and literacy? Also how hard you feel it will for the Alien who didn't visit the US. I mean Your guy traveled to the US which gave him some advantages, but what if someone didn't travel.

How did NVC notify you? My Canadian fiance and I recieved a letter that our i-129F was approved June 8, but have not gotten anything from NVC. Applied for the DS-160, but this shows no status. Does that match up with anyone else's experience?

This is extremely discouraging 😢. We submitted in August after waiting a year for me to get my citizenship. We were expecting to be living together by Feb - April 2021 but based on this it might take the whole year for that to happen. This truly messes up a lot of our plans and timeline to start a family.

Can you know your fiancé less then 2 years and still apply for the application? What if you never met in person, just online and video chats on Skype? Please answer this for me . I don’t want my family member to waste his money applying for the visa. They have only known each other for about 6 months . She is from Kenya and he is an America.

Sadly I don't--I had sent it before we had the idea to make a video. We just put all the papers in a big yellow envelope without any binding, and then put it into another larger shipping envelope. Everything was printed on a regular printer, nothing fancy.

Hey! I am wondering did you ask the embassy or consulate for extension for your K1 petition (or they extend for you automatically), cuz I know after the petition is approved you have a 4-month time period where your petition will get expired and you need to book an interview before the expiration day.
My fiancé and I are starting to prepare for our K1 visa application and I am just worried that by the time the petition is approved I may not be in my home country to do the medical exam and schedule for an interview and I am worried that what happens if the petition is expired.
    Thanks

My fianceé (Chilean) and I are also in the same process. She was scheduled to have her interview on March 30 but it was cancelled March 20 due to COVID. One thing I have learned is that at the moment it is specifically the State department not allowing visas. The embassy in Chile has told me they are ready to get people their visas but they do not have permission from the U.S. to do so. I think it is crazy that for example Chileans can come visit right now on ESTA to the U.S. but we aren't approving visas. The only problem is that it is possible to have problems with CBP at the airport if you are doing K1 and travel on an ESTA. So my fianceé can't even come here also the Chilean borders are still closed to foreigners. Such a Crazy non-sensical world right now.

I just had this conversation with my fiancé. We just met In April ( I know engaged fast) and due COVID-19, it does not look like we will be able to meet in person soon 🥺. I wonder though if you thought about being a citizen in Mexico? Do you know if the process is still long or has the same amount of paperwork? My fiancé lives in Portugal. I tried going to see him in July and was able to get halfway there before they told me that France was not allowing any Americans to enter 😫 I was very hurt, and deceived. Now he wants to see if it’s easier for him to come here. Which after watching this , I’m not sure. But do you know about a US citizen going out of the country? Honestly we are just very madly in love that we don’t want to be separated. Even if the virus goes and comes back, we at least want to be together during it, and not be without each other. I’m so hoping for something to work 🤞🏽😢
