    I was curious what the chip was and did some digging. It's a UR0605B-XXXX made by Global Unichip Corporation for Google. It's the Google Titan/H1 security chip for Chromebooks. Talks to EC/AP, talks to EC EEPROM, tied into USB-C port. Can find it listed as H1 in chromebook schematics or UR0605B.

      What I found strange is that after booting up the computer it appears to have reset the Chrome os back to factory default. Perhaps replacing that security chip caused the os to be reset.

      Thank you, man! But if this chip is dead, then it's game over, I think.

    The storage of those cheap chromebooks are often Flash based and accessed over the USB bus. So the chip could either provide power or the data lines for the flash memory goes through the chip.

      Makes sense.

      I run a Linux "distro" for chromebooks and I've never seen a chromebook that has its internal storage connected on USB. It's eMMC on cheap ones.

    • @SantaClaw
      @SantaClaw 3 місяці тому

      @@mayamatuszczyk2436 Yes, on some of the cheaper chromebooks, eMMC (embedded multimedia card, aka a type of flash memory closely related to SD-Cards ) are sometimes run over the USB bus. I presume it is a cost cutting thing. Some of them even have a SD card slot on the board with an SD card hot snotted in place for the OS.

    I had a similar issue with Lenovo Chromebook TPM security chip H1B3C. Cause: bad broken usb-c ports destroyed the SlimPort ANX7447 + diode ESD array + PI3usB9281 + H1B3C IC
    Good to know H1B2C is equivalent to H1B3C didn't know that, in my case I just ordered it from ebay.
    You probably have a bad usbc-port a bad slimPort IC (controller) or usb controller 2.0 3.0 controller (like PIUSBxxxx Ic's ).
    Also in your case is it a charging port on the left side, sometime laptop have 1 usbc for charging and the other only for accessories but you probably checker that.

    • @maklogetrich2378
      @maklogetrich2378 3 місяці тому

      yes, most cheap laptop only have 1 charging port, and the other usb c port only for data

      I bought a Lenovo Chromebook off the internet for 100 dollars. It worked fine for about a week then all of a sudden it wouldn’t power up. I took it apart and examined the audio board on the right side and saw some chip components burned up. Because whoever owned it before me was charging it on the wrong usbc port. I got on a really nice website selling electronic components for older devices. That audio board only cost me 25 dollars and that is with shipping included. Gee I put that other audio board in and it fired right up. I wasn’t sure I would like it because it’s chrome os but I’m really happy to own that computer, thanks for the video on this.

    When I had my first dead chromebook I researched this chip, which was shorted in mine, and found an in depth paper saying how it's a security chip and it sounded like it was coded to the motherboard and couldn't be replaced so I never tried. I have found this chip always fails especially with USB port damage. I wonder if it will let you log in with a chrome account.

    • @IcecalGamer
      @IcecalGamer 3 місяці тому +1

      So... a chip known to fail is in charge of the users data, with no redundancy
      At least Acer is learning from the best in the faild, Apple :))

    • @JustInspiredKent
      @JustInspiredKent 3 місяці тому

      @@IcecalGamer Wouldn't most of the Chromebook data be on the cloud or is there separate local storage that is not accessible via Google Drive etc?

    • @GregM
      @GregM 3 місяці тому

      @@JustInspiredKent I believe one can store some data on the physical device but resetting via ChromeOS wipes that data off. I wonder if replacing that chip caused the ChromeBook to reset to factory default. It seems that the splash screen on boot up may be the cause of replacing that chip.

    At 5:10 MINUTE your thermal camera shows two chips getting hot. what made you ignore the first chip and go for the 2nd one? why didn't you replace the other chip you had identified at first?

    • @electronicsrepairschool

    Hi sorin, i suppose the bread and butter payment keep the work comming in, three or four cheap jobs out weight one three hour job, you cannot price a fault finding job unless you have a good idea what it is, and if the item is worth it! we live in a throw away society, you work hard to please the client, but you dont want the learning curve for yourself be compromised for the next job, cheap component are our nemesis, i would not be able to do a lot of repairs without my service equipment and these days the thermal camera seems to be common place, good job sorin well worked out, with a little help from your finger! £40.00 job i think at the least.
