This model gives an interesting sinking outcome. In a normal case, the ship would just capsize and sink mostly level until its final moments above water, but because of that forward cargo hatch, once the Bow had half gone under, water started filling quicker in the bow through the cargo hatch. This caused the bow to sink first, causing the stern to be the final part above water.
@@bascaroffical4651 that's because of the sudden shift of Centre of Mass and change of sinking direction due to the forward hatch. When this happened, the sinking sped up a lot as you can see in the video. After that, there was 1 or 2 seconds left till impact with the "ocean floor" and there was not enough time for the ship to capsize. Furthermore, you can see the ship about 0.5 seconds before "ocean floor" impact trying to turn left (evening keel) like Titanic did just before the final plunge because there is little water to force the ship to list and capsize but more for a near equilibrium hence the turning left manoeuvre. Then the ship hit the bottom and the listing sped up but then because a new pivot point was "created" because the ship was not fully vertical and due to the shape of the bow (pivot point "created" off from centre of ship height), the ship slowed listing and listed the other way (starboard) due to not only the ship's weight but also the crane being swung out horizontally further from the pivot point (moments). The ship performed a "Britannic" manoeuvre and remained above the water for some more time. The open hatches on the top of the bridge accelerated the sinking for several seconds, but then the remaining air slowly escaped and the ship slowly slipped under the water like modern sinkings tend to do. Because of all these events, the ship did not capsize.
Pretty good. Personally, I’d just weight it and hope that it was dragged down. Although, one piece of advice I’d give is to get a deeper pool, to get it to fully sink. Maybe make a sort of layout, with rocks where it can be beached like the Concordia.
“Uhh, captain, the starboard side of our ship is going a bit down” “It’s fine, let’s just stand here.” “SIR, THE STARBOARD IS BENEATH THE WATER” “I t ‘ s f i n e”
Just a question. Was is necessary to drill the hull and not just put extra weight inside? I have done it before with older ships by adding lead weights and the outcome of sinking the Lego ships was satisfying and I didn't need to drill the bases. Maybe the design is different to the older ones as I haven't seen any default block weights on these newer boats unlike the ones from the 1980's and 1990's. Although I don't care too much about this model because I never liked this release from Lego anyway but good video none the less. If I bought this set, it would be just for display only. I wouldn't even bother to float this one and I hope that Lego will make nicer looking ships in the 2026/2027 range. I have liked the video as it was quite fun to watch.
In the summer of November 10 ,2020 the S.S. Pool Explorer sets out to explore the Marianas Inflatable pool when at 1:00 PM the crew heardeafening clinks it sounded as if large coins were being dropped in the bow.At 1:15PM the ship starts to list to the right at first it was just a slight listing but 2 minutes into the breach the ship lists badly the crew do their best to keep the ship aloft but fail to do so,Finally at 1:30 PM the Pool Explorer has sunk to the bottom along with its captain and crew. May their souls rest in peace inside their watery graves -Narrator
You drilled holes in a hundred dollar Lego ship and filled it with coins to sink it and it was still so robust that it gave all the Minifigures enough time to escape to the chopper (first attempt)
