I know this is an older video but to date i have not seen anyone refer to the proper fitment of the D1 taper and spindle, How did you ensure that your D1 was actually engaging and aligning the backing plate before it may have bottomed out on the spindle face?
    Thanks Rick

Hi. One way to do that is with the studs removed and a fine polishing paste ..too fine to remove much metal..rotate the assembly back and forth. Then clean and inpect. You can see the surfaces that have been in contact. Cliff

@@Threadexpress Thanks Cliff, Yes i purchased a new D1-5 5c chuck and out of the box it contacts the spindle face but not the taper, i blued to check. waiting on some plastiguage to see how far i am off and then to face the parting surface to create the proper fit. A lot of work and setup. But in all the D1 videos on youtube it never comes up. Sad as this is the foundation of maintaining concentricity and the advantage of the D1 design.

@@1960fl good to hear someone is aware of these things. If its contacting the face you can measure the axial slop with studs removed via an indicator..then do the maths to find the amount out.
