It began with a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in Manhatten, USA on June 28th 1969, which resulted in violent riots. June 28, 1970, saw the first gay pride marches in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago to celebrate the riots. Today 'Pride festivals' throughout the world act as a celebration of a lifestyle that is not so much a choice, as an acceptance.
NB: These sentiments are my own, as I PROUDLY accept and celebrate my daughter's lifestyle.
