Really cool to see Monson back in the Zag circle. Love hearing Jeremy Eaton's name mentioned as well. Obviously a sad loss for the Zag Family, and I got to meet and talk with Jeremy frequently while I was in high-school and he was doing radio in the Tri-Cities for Hanford High School.
Somehow my life also took me to Long Beach St where I graduated. It was fun poking my head into Dan's office while I was a student there, and he was wonderfully welcoming and riffed about GU with me.

Great interview Mr. Dickau. I went to college in Idaho with Dan. I worked at Camp for 8 years and went to Zag games with my boys -Jr. Zags lol - in the old Kennel. My boys are big time Zag fans. Coach Monson at Cheney will be fun to watch.

I really liked Don at Oregon - he was fun to watch on the bench, but he was not able to put it together like he would have wanted.

I was class of 1976, Kamiakin High School and I clearly recall Monson coaching Pasco High School. I think it was Don Monson. Richland verse Pasco was a huge rivalry. I believe they played each other six times in one season* including the state championship game. I think Richland won the championship. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Regardless, I'm sure that Don Monson was coaching Pasco High School when I was in high school. Pasco and Richland were state powers and had huge fan following. The big thing for Tri Cities students was traveling to regionals in Spokane and staying at The Davenport hotel. Pasco verse Richland was THE game to watch. Heck, I didn't even attend either high school, and I still made the trip. It was a big deal.
The two player names I remember are Mike Neil for Richland and Beasley for Pasco. Mike Neil was the best high school basketball player I have ever seen.
    * Jamboree -1 game, conference schedule - 2 games, district tournament - 1 game, regional tournament - 1 game, state championship -1 game (The post season seeding, and playoff format was vastly different back then). 1979?

It was Don Monson. He's the father of this guy.

You got me by about 20 years but I do remember Jeremy Eaton playing for Richland and they had a nice run in the state tournament. They didn’t win it but they went a lot farther than they should have. I never missed a game on the radio that year. I also went to high school in Benton City with Jeremy Eaton. Played some pick up ball with him in the school yard. I remember being amazed at how tall he was and was happy he got to go to a bigger school to get recognized.

With Monson back in Spokane will this hurt Gonzaga recruiting? The timing when Gonzaga entered the WCC close to 40 years ago was perfect. USF had their run for many years. USF had the Quinton Daily scandal and they shut down their basketball program for a few years. After Santa Clara shut down their football program the thinking at the time was with the extra money the basketball program was going to go big time. That didn't happen. As a result there was a "power vacuum" in the WCC and as result Gonzaga stepped in and became a national powerhouse for over 20 years. No collegiate basketball program has ever done that. Go Zags!

Gonzaga overrated every year they benefit playing in the worst conference every year beat up on mid and bad teams once the play a good team they look like a average team since 2000 there 34-52 vs APtop25 teams put them in a real conference they be a mediocre prgoram
