Love the altered sound. To my ears good pl;ying is putting the right phrasing and note choices over chords in ways that capture attention or pull the ears inward to make the listener wonder what just happened. Altered seems to do that for me. It breaks
Wow he’s getting a good crowd … I too like the altered scale of melodic minor but I personally dislike when people never play it because it’s really a super cool sound But like there’s this good teacher literally innocent great teacher named Lars on here learn jazz make music He’s good perfect guy. But he’s always regurgitating old same lines and playing melodic minor and altered THE WHOLE time I think jazz needs breaks for different moods. Such as is my opinion preference with blues. Altered played non stop like the same phrases in blues it’s a bad feeling for me. Mix it up. I want to hear you play inside of you played outside. Let me hear altered if you ignored it. If you play altered … let me hear some hook based jazz that’s less spaced out forced into the altered box. If you played spaced jazz let me hear a hook or something classically pretty If you played minor blues let me hear gentle major pretty blues Keep letting the different feelings show. But altered is so hard for real. Being creative in altered and not regurgitating old lines is hard in altered. And chromatic outside notes. I like to play outside when I play jazz and altered but I think playing pretty in between is a good idea. Such a great crowd.
I guess there are the players that’s always sound bebop - I could let that slide but switch it up man. Some people always have the altered melodic minor feel …. Like it a lot. But can we switch it up? Same with minor blues. Ok that was minor blues. Good choice. But we need to switch it up. My thoughts. He has a neat crowd though I like all the different people.
Practiced this cool lick with the looper over Dm-Bb-Gm-A7alt this Sunday long. As a wish - if there is time left - please a video guitar lesson about the resolution of the altered scale to a dominant 7 chord.
Great job Troy. I started practicing the altered scale last year after hearing Robben say he used it often. But this lesson helped me put it together a little better. I wonder if you might do a lesson on using ii-v substitutions in your soloing. I watched a lesson from Josh Smith and get the concept but when I do it myself it sounds too be-bop
Lovely stuff Son. 🤩👍
This is excellent news!! 🎸👌
Yeah, thank you, for me an other great guitar lesson and an other (little) step to master the altered scale

Thanks so much Pete. Definitely will be doing a video on ii V’s in the future!
Terrific. I actually prefer it when a guitarist teaches using interval names and theory instead of "seventh fret, d-string"... 🤦♂️
Oh man, I’m glad you think so! Thanks for watching!
