- RAISY - Quake III Arena - Any% Nightmare! Difficulty with Deaths Speedrun - 29m33s (former) World Record

Time without loads: 29:33.78

I used this "baseq3\q3config.cfg" file: pastebin.com/v...
I started off the run by restarting the map vs Crash so that she immediately spawns into the arena instead of at 12 seconds (like she otherwise would,) making it faster to complete the first map.
The command is: map_restart "0"
I used this method of force spawning the BOTs many times throughout the run so that I can get to fragging faster.
Against Ranger on the 2nd map I respawned until I got the optimal starting position. I did this on most other maps, as well.
I did something similar for "DM18: Space Chamber" to start the map off by getting a spawn telefrag.
I turned off the BOTs' chatting, so that they don't idle around wasting time.

so that the game wasn't stuttering.
Had to use these commands for the proper in-game resolution (which also makes cinematic cutscenes be a black screen for some reason.)

I used an easier to see model for the enemies.

I used low graphical settings to make it more optimal for better visuals.

Due to me playing on the Vanilla 1.32 Quake III Arena version (as I bought it on Steam) there is no way to turn off the screen shake when getting hit - it would require the OSP mod.

As far as I know, it's not possible to do in Vanilla 1.32 Quake III Arena.
Either you do the run on High graphical settings or it can't be improved afterwards.

I used JRs instead of Keels, I never was good at Q3, but it was even worst with enemy model Keel. But, I am designing my own game platform now, If I am going to continue probably after releasing of my engine I may cameback to FPS genre

Okay I have a question. I also play Q3, but noticed all speedrunners tend to use these bluish bot skins. As I am a programmer too, I understand why all game graphics are set to minimum - using less memory and extras will speed-up the game and prevent even the minimal speed-glitches. But what's the deal with the blue bot skins - are they some minimum-memory use skins or what? I understand why all bots use the same skin - less memory again, but why this blue skin? Why not another skin? And second question - out of curiosity - which Q3 engine is this one? I play on linux with ioquake3, I play for pleasure only, so all graphics are set to max on my laptop. I could run the original Windows code too, but I like ioq3 is a native port and runs a bit faster. Oh yes - and curious what setting you set your mouse sensitivity. In general - gg! I liked to watch your video!

Short answers: the graphical settings I used are not for better FPS and performance but for better visibility. I am playing on Windows 10 and using the Vanilla 1.32 Quake III Arena version (as I bought it on Steam) and it has limitations when it comes to settings. In modded Quake you can set enemy model to whichever color you prefer and most people use Green as it is very easy to see on most maps in most scenarios, but mods are not allowed to be used for speedrunning, so you can only use the Vanilla settings, which are either Blue Team, Red Team or Default colors. As for my sensitivity: I used 800 DPI with this in-game sensitivity without mouse acceleration: sensitivity "2.75"
As RAISY also explained in his stream, it is also easier to hear footsteps, if Keel is used as the enemy model.

How faster does low graphics make it?
Lower graphical settings makes it easier to see as everything is very plain and the blue enemy model sticks out more.
@@myztroRAISY can you tell the approximate number of seconds between low settings speedrun time and high settings speedrun time? this question bothers me since i saw 1000 fps in q3 full settings and that was long time ago.
@@williamblake7386 Graphical settings have nothing to do with how fast you can possibly complete a map. It's only personal preference to have it on low settings so that you can see more clearly and can spot enemies more easily.

I have to wonder why a max FPS that literally breaks the game's physics is allowed in speed running? Go try to grab that red armor in Overkill or the kamikaze on mpteam3 and you'll see what I mean. I'm not sure how the speed running community can legitimize runs that use FPS settings that literally BREAK the physics of the game.
Sure, it's a nice boost, but if you could increase your speed and jump height in any other game with exploits like this, would they be taken as seriously? If you can't play the maps normally that you're speed running on, then the run isn't legit in my opinion and the speed running community should reassess the max FPS allowed. This is why both Quake Live and defrag limit max FPS the way they do.
Not taking away from this run by any means. It's a great and beautiful run. Would be more impressive if you could match it at 250 FPS or lower though since capping your FPS at this value actually makes the maps fully playable (e.g. the ability to grab all items without jumping over them as you will with RA in overkill or kamikaze in mpteam3). 333 FPS in speed running is no different than using a wallhack or an aimbot in my opinion. If you can't play the game properly with the same settings you're using to speed run, it's not a legit speed run.

Now, I'm sure some people will argue that 125 FPS has always been an exploit and to a degree that is true. It does not break the physics of the game though in ways where items are not reachable on the maps that are designed for the game. 333 FPS is an absurd exploit. World records like this need higher standards.
I get that this is a world record, but it's such a bad run.
There is still at least 2 minutes to grind down, even though the game is short.
