    "I think it's more Sci-Fi maybe?"
The cover: Sci Fi: A Sci Fi essential book

John Scalzi writes exclusively sci-fi. Light weight, popcorn, not-deep sci-fi. They are usually fun and fast paced, but not very deep. I've read maybe 5 or 6 of his books and they usually take a day or two to read. Will Wheaton usually narrates the audiobooks so that's kinda fun.

Damn two Ruocchio reads in a month. Those are the next two in my schedule before the end of the year. I miss being in that universe.

Scalzi is renowned for extremely high concept commercially successful standalone speculative fiction and SF novels (don't think he's done fantasy yet), that you can easily pitch in a sentence. Sometimes the title is enough - Starter Villain, sometimes you need a bit more, like with Old Man's War. It's an excellent, pulp, SF novel that is clever, funny and weird. It did so well he wrote 4 or 5 more in that universe which is uncommon for him as most (not all) are standalone books. Books 2 and 3 are worth reading, the others, less so for me.

Can't wait for RoW review, as I am rereading stormlight too in preparation for book 5.
These were some of my first books after wot and I feel like I changed as a reader so much, they went from 5/5 to 3-4/5 on reread.
The biggest realization is that I just don't care for hard magic systems or at least transparently explaining them like bs does. Would be much more fun to have hints and figure them out through the book then every mechanic being spelled out in a prologue of book 1.
I might have to finally join the discord that buddy read seems fun.

Ruocchio is not underrated, he's criminally underknown. The problem isn't that people who have read his books don't rate them highly enough. The problem is that most people haven't read his books.

Hey Matt. How are you and your family doing? I will be spending most of this month reading while listening to all 4 books in the secret projects series that Brandon Sanderson wrote. I am now 43% into reading while listening to Tress of the Emerald Sea and boy has it been captivating and amazing. I try to get in about 5 to 6 chapters a day. The style of humor and the way he has written this story I thought was great. Apart from that, I will be working on an online class for massage therapists called Managing Client Expectations. I have been working as a massage therapist for the past 10 years and every 2 years I have to do 12 hours of Continuing Education classes. Those books all sound really good. The only ones that you have mentioned that I have read are the Mistborn era 1 books. I also finally finished Mistborn era 2 at the end of August. I know how you feel about the Lost Metal, that audiobook took me months to finish, because it was very easy for me to get distracted by other books.

I wish I could get myself to reread stuff as much as you are this month it looks like. I just feel like I can only read so many books in my life and if I spend time rereading then i'm missing out on more stuff I haven't read. I just need to do it, because I know I would love it. I don't necessarily read a ton in a year, I usually get in around 30-45 books, just depending on the year.

Yeah the fact I read 120 or so a year makes it easier for me to do it. But even then I wait 4 or 5 years before a reread

      @@Lycan3303 glad to hear it!
I think some essential advice is to read Before They Are Hanged (book 2) more or less immediately after you finish The Blade Itself. The first book is mostly set up and character introductions and some readers find it a little underwhelming when viewed as an individual book and not just the first piece to a larger story

Had fun guessing where you'd fall on all these rereads and new reads! I gotta get to Powder Mage myself, and I liked the book Old Man's War but the series reeeeeeeaaaaally lost steam afterward with some of the most forgettable reads of my life being those sequels.
Hope you enjoy catching up on Sun Eater! I loved Disquiet Gods, though I probably loved a couple of the earlier ones a bit more so it falls somewhere in the middle for me.

The male voice actor for Words of Radiance is Michael Kramer. He's the same actor that does the Mistborn books and many (all?) of the Wheel of Time. You could do a lot worse, but man, you could also do a lot better. Having recently listened to First Law and Malazan audio books, it's very hard to suffer through mediocre voice actors.
I'm halfway through Deadhouse Gates, but having the same problem as Gardens of the Moon, where a lot is happening, and it's interesting, but the author isn't taking the time to give me reasons to care.
Old Man's War is pure sci-fi and it's amazing. If you only give it a 3, I'm probably going to have to bail on your channel.
My recollection of Mistborn is that the first book is really bad except for some interesting world building. But the other two books are pretty good.
That Dregs of Empire book cover is gods awful. You could generate a way better image with AI in like 10 minutes.

Well i don't think you need to read dregs before reading the next book in the series, its more of just a bonus some backstory of what happens to a side character between 2 books i don't think anything really relevant happens to the rest of the story its just about that said character
