World renowned Chithirai Festival commences in Madurai’s Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple

The famous Chithirai Festival commenced in Madurai’s Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple with flag hoisting ceremony on April 12. The temple flag was hoisted after special pujas at the Kodimaran in front of Lord Sundareswarar. The presiding deities of the temple, Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar, were brought in palanquins with Goddess Piriyavidai during the flag hoisting. Thousands of devotees thronged the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple to witness the flag hoisting ceremony.
The popular Chithirai festival will be held for 12 days and ticket registration for darshan of Sundareswarar and Meenakshi Amman celestial wedding can be done through website.
