You often refer to "youth players" but I'm here to tell you that I am a 66-year-old softball player who found this video very helpful to me as a shortstop position player!

+1 for that. I'm a 44 year old slowpitch softball player who never played organized ball as a kid, and so never got any coaching.
I'm having to coach myself up on all the basics now as an adult and videos like this have been very helpful!

Very informative, hoping to see more videos on different topics of Baseball tactics. Thank you for the breakdown.

It helped me a lot whenever my coach told me go at an angle and always field the grounder on your left foot

Coach, do you have any additional advice for left-handed players making the same plays? My son is a southpaw but he routinely gets roped into playing 3rd, SS and 2B

Is this drill recommended for a position like third because the drill looks like it’s designed for middle infielders who have more time to. Set up for ground balls

Dorian Keene it’s good for third as well, even though you are correct in that often times you don’t have as much time to set up. Because of that I typically have 3rd spend less time on the routine ground ball, and instead do different versions of the drill that represent typical ground balls that third struggle with (working in 45 deg angles, such as drop steps)

      Bucket drill!
The whole purpose of “bucket drill” is to develop perfect footwork on the routine ground ball. Doing bucket drill at the beginning of every workout for even 5-10 minutes (making sure every rep is perfect) will eventually create the muscle memory needed for perfect footwork.
      Hope that helps.

i’ve noticed when you’re playing rec ball the runners are actually trying to beat out throws unlike the jogs MLB players do
