You should fill the car up to the top of the middle bar. Close the oil filter cap. Let your car idle for a minute. This will allow the oil to circulate and go to all the spots it can't when you fill it up. After this, you keep adding oil until you are at the top of the middle bar again. This is how I was though to do it on a BMW. (25 Nm is the spec for the oil filter cap and oil drain plug)
Thanks, you are right. I did run the engine idle for a bit in-between checks but didnt include that in the video. The line on top is the max level and according to the manual you should not exceed this line to avoid damage to engine. Level does go up a little when the oil is hot.
the oil filter snaps in place to the top of the housing. also 1 quart goes in the oil filter last so you don't have a dry start with a bone dry filter. yikes the oil is probably in bypass and flowing through the top unfiltered
so after snapping filter into the top piece... pour a quart/liter into the oil filter about halfway(!). slowly lower the conjoined filter/cap into the oil. finish up etc and you'll have fresh oil the second it fires up. I also do topside changes with a Mityvac 7201. best purchase only second to the Peake obd2 reader
You can use 5w50 even 5w40 in colder weather
Shame my M5 got snapped timing chain . Valvoline 10w60 Racing is a good choice for this engine.Nice video

36mm is the size of the nut on filter cap ...$10 on amazon
What did your dip stick read after returning from the drive?
Do you take the incline in to consideration?
It really hasn't been an issue in my experience. Even now that I have QuickJacks, that raise the car at level, I have not noticed any difference.
