A look on UA-cam will show that immense fires like this happen every few years in North America when large wooden apartment complexes catch on fire while under construction. The results are always unbelievably huge events like this.
No way that such a large wooden structure should have been allowed to be built. It is bad enough for a 3 story all wood complex, but 6-7 is unfathomable. (And across the street is a twin complex!) I am retired FDNY and the floors and major supports of that type of bldg should be concrete. No exceptions. Why was there no large Dry-chem extinguishers throughout the complex, or standpipes with hose so the workers could defend themselves? Was there a safety system in place to alert workers to get out or what to do??. They are lucky only 2 were lost.
Yet more are being planned, built, and profitized by Large corporate reality companies that can easily buy the way into city halls and political officials in order to reap millions in profits that only circulate among those in that type of inner circle workings all across America.
Everything in the last 80 years is built with sticks, cardboard, plastic and cotton candy. Only the elevator shafts and stairs cases are cinder blocks. Tornado or fire?…you choose.
I've seen ones from Los Angeles and Houston made from this chip wood that they are using. In order to make these boards they have to use some kind of glue. It is my opinion that this type of glue is very flammable. I Feel bad for the missing workers.
Lightweight wood construction + Inadequate firestopping + lack of sprinklers = Firetrap. Why this type of construction is permitted in large multiple dwellings is beyond me.
How the hell do they are making all these apartments out of wood? Everyone knows that this will always burn real fast. Cheaper to build, but $$$$ is over safety. Why isn't this been enforced?? Maybe after 2 deaths..they city will change building codes.
After supervising commercial construction projects for 20 years, I can tell you that the rules are there, but it is HUMANS who have to follow them. When I say humans, I really mean, irresponsible children who will work harder to skirt the rules than just obey them. The superintendents of the project will try to make the workers/subcontractors follow the rules but the Project Managers, or Paper Pushers, the people who control the subcontractors, and who supposedly "Supervise" the superintendents, don't back up the supervisors, so the workers ignore a lot of the rules. When OSHA comes around and fines the subcontractors, they also fine the general contractor and then when the company owner wants to know why this happened, the PM points a finger at the Superintendent. It's a really fun environment to work in while trying to achieve a quality and safe project.

This is why fires get out of hand. 2:45 Fire departments focusing on rescue, which takes a MASSIVE amount of time, instead of eliminating the threat starting with tank water, which will Protect the victims and entering firefighters. This kind of irresponsibility through shortsightedness, happens across this entire country. You can protect victims by eliminating the threat much faster than you can locate and remove them. The entire time the fire grows exponentially. When a firefighter "Puts themselves" into a position where they have to call a Mayday, firefighting and rescue stops in its tracks so they can save their "Brother!" What good are they to the victims when they have to stop and rescue themselves?
What a cluster fk. These construction companies are meant to have a plan of works and do risk assessments which covers worst case scenarios, which includes emergency procedures, exits routes, assembly points.

@@toddmcdonald8881 Sad. Wait and see what will happen after it is occupied and there is a fire.
you would think the guy in the Crain would have seen the fire when it was small

Because these types of structures are built to kill people, that’s why.
How the hell do they are making all these apartments out of wood? Everyone knows that this will always burn real fast. Cheaper to build, but $$$$ is over safety. Why isn't this been enforced?? Maybe after 2 deaths..they city will change building codes.
The beginning of the market crashing people setting buildings on fire for insurance money 🤦♂️
Pretty ignorant statement. The insurance will go to the loan holders of the building.
Awful. I feel so bad for the workers who are missing.

Fox news: regulations are what a communist would support!!!!
Very good work protecting the unfinished exposure.
Imagine that ,a structure made of wood burnt to the ground I never would have thought.....Another slumlord miser .
It was Eric cartman
Haha yes!
Glad you left Butters out of it!
He's been through enough already!
The construction workers who died live streamed on Facebook live saying they're in trouble and need help. Very sad outcome.
They made a great save on the building under construction next to it 👍

Reminds me of the fire at Santana Row in San Jose, California, no cause of how the fire was started was ever determined!
Saw a video of the missing 2 yelling for help
90 fire fighters on to a 5 alarm 🔥 that's very small was there mutual aid from other cities?
Great, fast moving coverage.
Wood buildings over 2 stories should be outlawed. No more wood monstrosities as living quarters.
Where was Randy Marsh before the incident?
Some1 was pissed
It was set deliberate
I wondered this too.

I just don't understand why they made that building out of wood

USA builds with wood a lot
And they have paper thin walls and floors where everyone can hear everything every tenant above, to the sides, or below does. And charge huge rents.
I bet the workers had a lot to the fire
I really dislike local news media.
Update: they're on permanent vacation
