One of the oldest film educational traditions, a student edit of Gunsmoke!
I was given a set of 10-bit interlaced ProRes files made from scanned Gunsmoke film dailies for the episode "The Buffalo Man" in a film editing class. The first thing I did was reverse telesync the footage to discard the added 3:2 pulldown and return it to the 24p frame rate it was originally shot in. As this was a digital scan of film I decided to blow it up to 2k frame. Then started my edit based on maximizing the direction I felt the original shoot script was best aimed at. I chose to finished it with a dramatic Sergio Leone inspired "death march" sequence set to music by Ennio Morricone - a tribute to Italian Westerns! -Daniel Reed, Aspiring SF Film Maker

Nice job. The line "You made me break a promise" should have been included. It added to motivation for Matt's anger.
That's what these criminal's need today!!!
Thanks for the in depth critique For the fight sequence I deliberately deleted a frame or two at the moment the fists would have made contact. I felt this added more impact. I also half-made a joke version of this edit that suggested the saloon was an video game arcade. The instructor could never remember my name so I was toying around with the idea of submitting that version as well, but under a fake name for laughs and grins! Maybe one day I'll get around to finish and then upload it =)
*YES* to Western Style Justice ⭐️🇺🇸
Am 77 years I watch gun smoke I was born in 1947 I remember watching a lot off his show and I like them
Both the use of Foley and cutting the 'supposed' strikes early does help in adding a sense of realism to this sequence. I mean you've seen the raw footage. It would be cool to see your concept version once uploaded. :)
in an interview with arness he says the show owes everything to the editors, and then he turned around and walked off with no pants on
Nice : ) I especially like the use of crosscutting between scenes at the beginning as it adds tension and establishes the dynamic of the story. On the fight sequence, it looked more genuine than mine (as I used faster cutting technique's and more close up shots, thus modernizing the sequence) for the period in which this show would be aired with several long shots and mid shots relevant to character in conjunction to 2D camera movement and 3D character movement.
That was cool but the fight scene was cut
Tom, did you read the title? Gunsmoke edit.
@@diffened Sorry bout that 👍🏻
Anyone know the actress? I know I’ve seen her elsewhere.
Patricia Smith.
MUSIC AND framing like an old spagetti western......
A very young Jack Klugman
Jack Klugman watching Dillon beat the snot out of dude !!
Do you have the source footage still? Can you upload the scans someplace?
The Spaghetti Western music was not necessary.
it didn't go with the rest but it was an amusing juxtaposition
Loved it😂
Nice,...Mixed with a spagitti western music.
Thanks Buz!
