One minor thing about the eastern part of Castle Town that you missed is the aqueduct, which runs from Crenel Hills to the town. There is practically no trace of it in BOTW or TOTK, but it can be seen in some missions in Age of Calamity.
words cannot describe how much i wish we got to experience totk castle town. btw there’s a very interesting ruin on death mountain. it’s unmarked, and north of shadow hamlet. it appears to be of hylian architecture, but there are goron-crafted pots lying around it. maybe some kind of hylian-goron collaboration build? i thought it might be an easter egg to Royo-Royo Depot in aoc, but i checked the maps and they don’t line up. Royo instead lining up with shadow hamlet. i would love for you to cover this, thanks!
Those poor people, they only just got home to their families and had dinner. They were just getting ready for bed and the next day. Night shifts were just starting. Then everything was on fire. Everything was destroyed.
It's bad for Link as well. Imagine having lunch at your favourite noodle place, they've known you for years, you have a regular order, maybe even played with the owners son or daughter as little kids. Now not only have you lost friends, but you'll never eat your favourite noodles ever again. And you're the only one still alive who even remembers it was ever there.
A few bits you could have touched on in western Hyrule Castle Town - the water reservoir and nearby quarry. Also, I would suspect the Hyrule Castle Jail gate would also see plenty of hunters passing through, given the park side would likely having hunting restrictions.
I love the image you conjure, of someone riding all the way to Castle Town. Perhaps, to celebrate a major achievement in their lives. Finally, they have gained independence and an opportunity to see Hyrule beyond their small village. Castle Town would have probably seemed otherworldly in its expanse and density. Now all that is just a memory of a memory
If they do one more era of the wild style zelda, i hope its a further couple years after totk and everything is mostly back in place. Perhaps it could be akin to zelda 2, the yiga or maybe a newer actually deadly cult is trying to resurrect ganondorf, or maybe even create a new Ganondorf by kidnapping gerudo.
Skyward Sword had such amazing music. That's definitely something that was lost with the newer games. That track where you're following Fi at night for the first time is amazing.
So, I find it odd that all of Castle town only has one well. One. Well. Sure, there's fountains, and the small reservoir (more like a pond, but whatever), And yes, there is the Castle moat. But there is only ONE place in ALL of this major city to draw clean water. For comparison, Hateno Village, the largest current Hylian settlement, has four wells spread across its layout. Four wells. Deya Village ruins has 5 wells. There are MAYBE 10 buildings total there, and yet they had 5 wells. The only place worse off than Hyrule Castle Town is Tarry Town with zero wells, but a fountain in the middle of the small town. And that was built up on an outcrop in the middle of a lake. Given time they could even just use a bucket on a rope and get water from the lake if they wanted. Castle town, at its peak, was most likely home to between 500 and 1,000 people, not to mention livestock, and horses for the army to use. And they only had one well to draw from.
couldve been destroyed? or maybe the capital citizens had access to better technology and taps/faucets (or atleast the wealthier ones), and the older parts of the city relied more on the well? this is supported heavily by the existence of the old aqueduct that lead into castletown, which we know fully well existed as it was drawing from the zora's reservoirs. this was shown in hyrule age of calamity and its ruins can be seen in botw and totk with the pillars outside castletown
I'd love for there to be another game in this hyrule, perhaps a restoration game where you take care of the remaining of ganondorfs army and spend rupees or collect materials to fix areas
This was such a great video, one I've been anticipating! I'd love to see us return to this hyrule at some point in the future. Sidon's fiance being from a different region opens us up to having the main adventure being there, then possibly returning to this hyrule once it's rebuilt. Could be a cool experience imo. Love these ghost town videos and I look forward to seeing more from other zelda games!

From the moment I found it, I have been intrigued by the cathedral ruins. Was it grand or perhaps more simple? Was Zelda's prayer time spent there, at the castle, or both?

@@skullkid7989honestly i am still hoping the next game we play as the character that outfit is based on, not in the "Era of the Wild" but either During Sonia/Rauru's Reign dealing with other problems, shortly after it, or maybe a century later so we have a Zelda of the past and fight the first calamity.
there should be a 3rd game where link travel back in time before everthing was demolished and stop ganon there. so nothing happend to hyrule the royals and the champions...
I feel like Nintendo dropped the ball here, we could have had a DLC for memories wondering around the city, doing chores before the arrival of the Calamity. There's so much content to explore for this game. Even a small MMO.
I was trying to work out the logistics of the castle and castle town a while ago. Like ... how many people would have been living in castle town? To build such a place, you'd need thousands of tones of stone and wood. And skilled crafters and architects, just to keep the place secure. Then the services those people would have needed ... there must have been thousands of Hylians living here. Right at the center of the explosion. The fact that the survivors had only two places to escape too ... and we don't see very many hylians ... probably says a lot about how many in castle town survived. especially with the loss of skilled workers. Bearly anywhere the Hylians settled has any stone structures, or glass. Very little metal. Which seems to mean a lot of the skilled workforce was destroyed, leaving people who had no idea how to do or make those things. Like a mini bronze age.
Dunno about anyone else, but I’m kinda jonesing for some sort of Hyrule cleanup/rebuilding standalone game taking place after the end of TotK. Team up with Zelda using the map and building mechanics from TotK, terraforming options like ACNH, resource management like MGSV, settlement building/defense like Fallout 4 (but better/less irritating, and no Preston Garvey😂), etc. Throw in a few quests/objectives and a hella simple storyline, and it’d be fantastic. 🤷🏻♂️

Do you remember a game called Dark Cloud 2? I would love to see Nintendo reach out to the modding community (I know that would never happen) and make a separate game just for mod submissions. Give it a name like "The Legend of Zelda, The Restoration of Hyrule"! Have modders submit things to Nintendo without being penalization or retribution just for this game. Have the modders compensated, and Nintendo sell the mods as expansions. The possibilities are endless. Clothing, weapons, buildings, and landscape. With TOTK new building mechanic it would be a great way to do this. And with a new console around the corner, it would be a great way to test out the capabilities of it. Again, sadly this will never happen, but I think its's a great idea. Hopefully the modding community will continue their awesome work and make BOTW and TOTK playable for years.

I'm still let down by the fact that little has been done to rebuild Hyrule in the timespan between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom apart from the establishment of Lookout Landing. If we were given a Main Quest that tasked us with aiding the reconstruction of the various ruins dotting the land in an effort to restore the battered kingdom to its former glory, then it would have made the game *_perfect_* in my opinion. And your efforts wouldn't go unrewarded. Like rebuilding villages would open up new shops and expand the inventories of the merchants who wander the land. Or rebuilding military outposts would bolster the manpower and equipment utilized by the Monster Control Teams, or even rebuilding a place like the Temple of Time on the Great Plateau would enhance the abilities of Link and/or the Sages.
Back in the OOT day's the castle town roofs were orange 🟠 and in BOTW/TOTK era the roofs are blue 🔵 who do you think decides what color the roofs to be?

The prison and the ancient research lab. Both are sizeable, both are decimated. Makes makes wonder why only those places copped so much more flak.

I've probably played entirely too much TOTK (>1000 hours), but once you've finished (almost) everything, Hyrule is a very empty & lonely place.
