I visited Philadelphia last summer and i was in a hotel near the liberty bell. When i got outside at every time of the day there was a homeless person asking for my money every 20-30 meters. If i would give everybody something i would be out of money within a few weeks. After a while you just ignore them and try to enjoy your vacation. Its insane how many homeless people there are in the US compared to my own country (The Netherlands).
As an American I hope everyday my country, the US, takes lives as seriously as your country does. Until then if you ever visit again may I suggest the city of Boston. Preferably the Seaport area for lodging and recreation as its a playground for the rich and there are hardly any homeless there. This from a homeless man.
2:22 Where Joe wished for everyone to be happy; Joe is so right when he said that about people needing the right frame of mind. It is all about perception. If we all would stop seeing each other as separate then we could all find a way to come together in harmony. But at this moment we are all just thinking about surviving the hell we have created together. Not one drop of water wants to be the blame for the ocean sort of thing.
Those Gypsy contractors are known for leaving their workers stranded in strange cities, they get paid by the customer then decide to not pay the workers and split town... I know this all too well because it happened to me
People are so quick to judge when they have never had circumstances in their lives that would put them in such positions as this. No one should be treated as invisible but they are each and every day. I truly believe that no man stands the tallest as the one that kneels to lend a hand to one truly in need. And it is a hand up not just a hand out.....
i been homeless no joke. government doubted my story , wanted me to call them whenever i went to ''bed'' . had no money, no legit id, to get a legit id i had to be registered, i couldnt get registered because of no legit id. vicious cycle man. then i just had enough and i started to scam the system. been good ever since.
@@deathrager2404 scamming the system just hurts other homeless people. I am very leery of giving street people any money. I’ve seen to many documentaries showing so called homeless people panhandling then drive off in a car. I don’t mean a junky car they might be living in at night. The car was better than mine. How and why are so many homeless people are saying they “lost” their Id? ‘
I'm homless for the last 7yrs man I telling you I never ask for money on the streets I am always Working in London it's Like them want to get Rid of poor people You have to be earing £30.000.00 per year And also no government Assistance hand out. So you see you can judge Or feel for yourself I never rough sleep but I sit in macdonal 24hr service and save money For 6 month hotel rental.
If people could be more specific about their wishes and dreams it would help it become a reality. He's a great guy. Sometimes people don't realize their own worth and therefore don't really even think about or wish for what they would really want because deep down they allow society to define then and they don't feel like they deserve things they really do. He probably has a unique skill set and would be a vital part of society. That goes for all of you reading this comment. "Know your self worth and go for it!".
It's not that I don't care, but some of them can be quite harassing when I am trying to sell my One Step Away (papers so that I don't end up homeless again). The ones that harass me often lie about me, when they already recieve $10 to every $1 I earn. When no one is looking - I should say "listening" - they brag to me about how much they bring in compared to me. Sometimes people will give them a $20 then tell me to get a job. I'm not aggressive, so I don't make as much as I could. It's bad enough I'm standing out in all kinds of weather, in pain (RA & nerve damage), trying to make rent and electric (LIHEAP only covers the winter months. I'm on my own for the three-digit summers), so that I don't have to sleep in the street again. On top of that, many of them try to convince my customers that I'm supposed to give the money I earn to them, so they can go get drugs. (note: not all homeless people do drugs, and many of those that do didn't until after they became homeless. Sometimes I feel like I don't care, but I know I'm really frustrated. It's the fake panhandlers hurt all of us. Everything I just said will get turned
I have seen1 thing go wrong & snowball into out on the streets quickly. A major illness & your ins doesn't cover the med your Dr wants you to take. Or someone gets major illness right after you lose ins. I would have been on streets far from home when I left abusive alcoholic but my family & friends helped me find my way home. I was one of the lucky ones. What if no one could pay for me to get home? I knew he was going to kill me, my dog or both of us the next time he lost it! I had to go. If I hadn't had help I would have been living on the road with 2 dogs hitchhiking because his truck was repo so I had no way to get away from that rural backwater nothingness. Any life can change in a simple moment. ☮💛🔆
So we all know the shelters are bad why can't they just hire security guards? Why can't people organize and solve the issues we all face not everything requires stacks of money half of these people just need some support.
Since 2008 when there was a financial crisis . .our leaders allowed those who flipped houses, to double the rent, forcing people out of shelter. There use to be something in place, that a landlord couldnt do that . .but because of greed and quick get rich schemes. Then also lots of mayors raise up home owners taxes . .that they had to vacate their homes those empty houses then became crack houses. Then Mildew homes needing tore down. . .now to cope with all the mess unwise leaders made. Then have turned to addictions, same as the public. And that makes things worse. Because you can effectively be a ruler and make sound decisions to uphold and defend the cries of the poor. Or uphold justice without perverted it . .and being undiscerning.
People that are willing to work should never be homeless. So many lazy people getting things handed to them while hard working people sleep on the streets.
Highlighting the homeless plight is always a good idea I mean raising awareness nothing wrong with doing that ....however , the cynical side of me is wondering if the guy asking the questions and filming is somehow gaining?? i.e. via youtube revenue and the like?? well, are ya??? tell us ....would be interesting to know and if you are how much of it do you give to the homeless the real victims and "stars" here?? I will say that nearly ALL of the American homeless highlighted come across on camera as very well spoken and intelligent individuals which makes it even sadder to watch , so much wasted never achieved lives ...just because of one bad break or another , everyone is fallible , and these videos also highlight the unfairness of life and that there is still something terribly wrong with all civil society in general no matter which country it is that it is still possible in this advanced day and age to end up completely homeless
Hi, thanks for your comment. You may not have noticed there was no ads on this video or any of the other interviews. There are a few ads on vlog content and they bring in $100 a month. We raise around $2k a month on Patreon which is still not enough to even hire one person so I work other jobs to pay my own rent and food. That all said, I spend every waking moment working to help homeless people all I can. If you research this channel and our work, you’ll find that housing programs have started, individual homeless people have been housed because of their videos, and lots of other support from eyeglasses to meals have been provided.
Hi There , that is excellent news I'm delighted to hear that , and it is nice to see people being proactive and doing all they can to help however , some individuals who are homeless probably ARE bad people just like there are bad people in other situations not everyone homeless is a good person we should keep that in mind too a lot of it is of their own making however as I am sure you are aware there are a lot of genuinely tragic cases and naturally they deserve all the help they can get the real difficulty is separating the genuine from the bad and helping the appropriate persons how can you be 100% you can't , but I guess even the bad deserve a roof over their heads , a lot of what appears to be very good people highlighted in your videos

Stay ya greedy ass out of Philadelphia you rich bitch
It's unfortunate how many there are. I know I don't have enough money for the homeless I encounter so I look for other ways to help as well.
As an American I hope everyday my country, the US, takes lives as seriously as your country does.

I did not know about it myself. It is BS they can do it and not b prosecuted.
That's why I only work for cash a day. If u don't pay me I'll beat your ass and we both go our own ways.
This is a prime example that this can happen to anyone. Because in reality we are all human! Sorry you went through that brother

Terrible that they have bugs at the shelters. Bed bugs and roaches...that should be exterminated so people don't suffer!
